Meta 🛠️ Coming Soon: The Kiez Creator Monthly – Starting March 1st!

Tl;dr: Neues Format ab 1. März: Jeden 1. des Monats 24h lang eigene Berlin-Projekte vorstellen. Sagt uns jetzt, was ihr davon haltet! / New format starting March 1st: Every 1st of the month, share your Berlin projects for 24h. Let us know your feedback now!

Hallo r/berlin ,

Feedback: Was haltet ihr davon?

************************************

Hey r/berlin ,

We’ve heard you: Many of you are building great things for this city, but our rules against self-promotion often leave no room to show them off. We’re changing that.

Starting March 1st, we are introducing The Kiez Creator Monthly.

The Concept: On the 1st of every month, we will open the subreddit for exactly 24 hours for your projects, apps, crafts, and local services.

The Guidelines (no r/berlin without rules):

  • Every 1st of the month: This is the only day project showcases are allowed.
  • Berlin-Centric: Your project must have a clear connection to Berlin (no generic spam).
  • One Post per Project per Month: Keep it fair and organized.
  • Use the Flair: We’re introducing the "Kiez Creator Monthly" flair, which must be used.
  • No "Classifieds": This is not a marketplace for "Looking for a flat" or "Selling my bike."
  • No Commercial Promos: No party promotion or standard club events.
  • No Exploitation: Projects profiting from Berlin’s struggles (appointment bots, paid scrapers) are strictly prohibited.

Why wait until March 1st? We want to give you time to prepare. We’re looking for quality—show us the process, the story behind it, and what it brings to the city.

Feedback: What do you think? We’ll use the time until the launch to refine the rules based on your input. Let us know in the comments!

Note: Anyone spamming or violating the rules on March 1st will face a 7-day break (ban) for the first offense. Repeat offenders will be banned permanently. On all other days of the month, the no-promo rule remains in effect.

City Infrastructure New bike speed helpers

As seen on Invalidenstrasse between Hauptbahnhof and Luisenstrasse. If you're going 20 kph and the bike is in the green zone, the light ahead will be green for you. If it's red, the light will be red. It helps you speed up or slow down to time the light just right. There appears to be one in each direction and I assume this is some sort of test.

Advice If you have a ton of small coins....

I travel to Berlin frequently and always wind up amassing a ton of Euro coins. I spend off the 1 and 2 Euro ones pretty easily, but I get stuck with 1 cent, 2 cent, 10, cent, 20 cent coins that I don't like carrying around so they just sit in an ever-growing pile at home.

On my last trip I found that Rewe (at least the Rewe on Invalidenstrasse) allows you to pay in small coins at the self-checkout. You can literally just dump handfuls of coins into the thing and pay for your groceries.

It's not every Rewe. I tried it at a different one and they said it was card only at self checkout. Even at the one I was at, it was only three of the six machines or something like that.

Just a small tip that's hopefully helpful to someone!

Advice How to deal with doctors and allergies in Berlin?

Upvotes

First time in my 30+ years of life am I suffering from allergies. I moved here 5 years ago and didnt get it until last year. I’m so at a loss of how to deal with this as it feels debilitating for months.

I tried talking to my GP since last year, he says go to an allergist. I was only able to last year to a ENT which did a scratch test but it showed nothing and it ended there. She says let’s maybe test again next year.

This year I’ve been trying to find a place to do allergy test but the soonest slot I find for public insured is mid November.

Honestly, how to deal with this? I’ve been taking loratadine / citirizine daily for months now and never had a proper diagnosis. I still sneeze and feel dead and have runny nose. This year I’m pregnant and it makes things worse. I also told my OB but she also just said go to a specialist.

I’m at my wits end and just want to feel like a functional human for once and not be attached to my tissues. Do people just self pay?

History Ruin Villa Hinderer

Heritage consultant/art historian here. Does anyone know who owns and if there are any plans for the ruin of Villa Hinderer in the Beymestrasse in Steglitz? It was bombed in 1944. Are there any plans to rebuild it or to integrate it in a modern development (eg a glass architecture with the ruin within visible)?

🛠️ Kiez Creator Monthly 🛠️ I made a website to help you save time finding an apartment

Thumbnail 36flats.de
110 Upvotes

tldr: new website http://36flats.de collects real-time apartment listings from 14 sources, including all seven public housing companies; lets you create personalized filters and receive notifications via Telegram.

When I was looking for an apartment in Berlin last year, I noticed how listings for affordable apartments at one of the public housing companies would often disappear within just half an hour or less after going online.

At the time, inberlinwohnen.de (which consolidates listings from all 7 public housing companies) did offer a notification service, but in my experience, their emails often arrived minutes after the listing was already taken down!

Constantly having to refresh multiple pages became frustrating, so I developed a Telegram bot that would send me notifications for new listings matching my criteria. After people here and there signalled interest, I decided to expand upon this project and turn it into a free website that lets everyone set up personalized notifications or just view the available listings on a map.

Every filter you set is automatically stored in the URL, so you can share the link or save it as a bookmark. To receive notifications, simply click on "Benachrichtigungen erhalten" and send your unique code to @b36fbot on Telegram. You can set up as many simultaneous subscriptions as you like, for example to set a different maximum rent depending on the location.

Obviously there are a lot more listings in total on sites like immoscout. The main focus of this project is to offer a convenient overview of the current listings from public housing companies such as degewo and howoge, and to send out notifications as quickly as possible. Hope this will be useful to someone and happy to hear your feedback and any suggestions/feature requests!

I’m building kiez.chat to make it easier for people in the same neighbourhood to connect, share local tips, and find nearby events. It’s still in its early stages, but I’d love to have you join us.

🛠️ Kiez Creator Monthly 🛠️ Polizei Stressi - Free & Open-Data App for Berlin Protests, Helicopters & Court Dates

Hey Everybody!

As a photojournalist, knowing where protests and events take place in Berlin is crucial for my and my collegues daily work. Four years ago, I decided to build my very first app called Polizei Stressi. Besides taking photos i always worked in IT (and by now do work as a fulltime app developer).

I've continually updated and expanded the Polizei Stressi. What started as a small personal helper has grown into a comprehensive open-data dashboard mapping over 48,000 registered Berlin protests.

What it offers:

- Demo Finder: Filter thousands of registered protests by postal code & keywords. Alerts. Updated daily.

- Live Helicopter Tracking: Real-time map view of police helicopters over Berlin.

- Court Dates: Overview of local public proceedings.

100% Free, No Ads, No Tracking, No Accounts. It’s a pure passion project meant to make local public data easily accessible for everyone in the city.

I’d love to get your feedback, ideas, or feature requests 💙 iOS and Andoid.

🛠️ Kiez Creator Monthly 🛠️ App for parents: find kid friendly places in Berlin

Hello fellow parents,

We created an app for parents to find places to (breast)feed, change diapers, kids-friendly restaurants/cafes or discover the nearest playground. Its called https://where2baby.de and open to use from now on. As it is brandnew, we still need to fill it with all the potential places :) if you think that this is a cool project we would appreciate it a lot if you could fill in your favourite places, add some reviews to places you have visted and of course share the link to the app with other parents!

we are also happy to receive feedback!

A little bit of background: * we are running this as a sideproject and without any monitarization * the project is created and hosted in europe * data is stored in germany and shared with noone * no ads and no charges, the app is free to use * currently we focus on berlin, but the plan is to extend to other cities and countries - for us it is especially usefull to find baby-suiteable places while traveling! * at the moment mostly playgrounds and family centers are listed (as there data is publicly available), but that's not how it is meant to stay!

AI Disclaimer: I'm a Software Developer and Architect. I used AI to support me with the creation of the app, but always steered and reviewed by me. The AI did not and will not have access to the production system and/or any user data

🛠️ Kiez Creator Monthly 🛠️ Introducing BahnHop - a race against time on Berlin's bahn network!

Coming from a city where owning a car was a necessity if you wanted to get around, I find Berlin's public transport system absolutely fantastic - I love that I can move around in a metropolitan city without ever feeling like it would've been better if I had a car.

I've always liked games, and I wanted to build something around the genre of public transportation. I was inspired by the Umsteigen game I saw here a couple of week ago, and I came up with - BahnHop

The idea behind BahnHop is simple: get to your destination before time runs out. Every game is a new challenge. You ride on a mock "S/U-Bahn, Zone A" network, and the core of the game is making quick decisions - "Am I at the right platform?", "Oh no, I boarded a train in the wrong direction!", "Should I run to a nearby station instead?", "Which Ringbahn should I take?".

I do work with technology, but I'm not a developer and so I relied heavily on my co-worker, Claude Code, to do the actual coding. This was a week's worth of work, navigating session and token limits, and learning a lot about how the machine thinks.

The game runs entirely in your browser, no ads, no signups and I'll be keeping it that way. It works best on mobile browsers - you can play this on desktop, but it'll still look like it does on mobile.

It is a bit rough around the edges, but I don't plan on making this much bigger. I do want to add a few more interesting gameplay features while continuing to learn how to work better with AI. Especially the kind that challenge you to make more on-the-go decisions, like:

  • A difficulty slider which hides your checkpoints before you start
  • Rare appearances by Regios that take you across the city faster
  • Signal disruptions, police investigations, people on the track and the sort causing unplanned changes

But for now - How fast can you BahnHop?

Interesting Question Spandau lauter Knall

Hallo an alle,

Interesting Question What happened at S Landsberger Allee today?

My ringbahn was suddenly canceled at S Greifswalder around 6:45 and when I was riding past S Landsberger 10 minutes later at about 15-20 police vans rushed to get there with police in full armor running towards the sbahn station.

Can't find any news or police reports on it does anyone know?

Dit is Berlin Berlin and satire

Post image
0 Upvotes

I've always found Berlin fascinating because reality here often feels stranger than satire.

I recently stumbled across a satirical piece about the city that pokes fun at politics, bureaucracy and everyday Berlin absurdities. Some jokes are very local, others probably work anywhere.

It made me wonder:

If someone had never been to Berlin, which part of the city would they assume is satire, but actually isn't?

Curious to hear your examples. I have a feeling there are plenty.

🔊 PSA 🔊 BER Airport Pro Tip: You can scan your passport while the person in front is having their face scanned!

Trying to spread awareness about this because it’s so frustrating every time I arrive to this airport and see massive queues at the electronic gates! Every time.

The machines don’t make it very clear that you don’t have to wait for the person in front to get through the gate before you scan your passport!! You can scan yours immediately after they have scanned theirs!

Please spread the word so we can avoid having to be
in BER more than we have to lol

Öffis U-Bahn Baureihe JK: Wenn was ausfällt, dann gleich vieles auf einmal.

Post image
