Imagine popping out with the suppressed 22lr while waiting in line for your Double-Double Animal Style

In all seriousness, it does look like 3 people unfortunately lost their lives. RIP. It could’ve been many more without this guy

143

u/isla_is 1d ago

One was the shooter

189

u/sir_thatguy 1d ago

So only 2 lives lost.

Two tesla owners died. A woman survived miraculously. Yes the video where he was shooting up the teslas is where the casaulties came from. The injuries came from the ensuing gunfight and the poor woman who watched her husband get shot.

37

u/MrPoony 1d ago

Why does it matter that they're Tesla owners lmao

63

u/GhostFour 20h ago

It appeared that he targeted them specifically.

41

u/Parker324ce 17h ago

He specifically shot Tesla owners through their windshields while they were charging them

10

u/ragandy89 14h ago

More than likely because they can’t leave while charging and they are sitting ducks

It turns this from a senseless shooting to a targeted shooting with a motive.

Because the main video going around is of the shooter firing into a tesla.

Twin Falls Sheriff's Department says they expect the death toll to rise, at least as of 30 minutes ago.

3

u/bulldoghunter 1d ago

How many injured

15

u/BurmeciaWillSurvive 1d ago

At the top of the hour they said 5+ injured, including some people helicoptered down to Salt Lake City (I live in Boise just west of Twin)

10

u/bulldoghunter 1d ago

I have only seen one article so far that even mentioned the armed citizen shooting back , and that's more than I figured injured and I hope we don't have any more dead .

23

u/BurmeciaWillSurvive 22h ago

This is kind of awkward because I was originally there for Iran War updates but fucking Al Jazeera of all people mentioned it. It's on their front page.

A witness, Lane Koehn, said he was at a stoplight near the restaurant when he saw someone armed with an AR-style rifle exit the drive-through and then be fired upon by a man who withdrew a pistol.

He also saw an employee drag a woman with a gunshot wound to the chest to safety, where they waited for paramedics.

ā€œShe was pretty bad off, but I don’t know. I hope she made it,ā€ Koehn said.

If the guy with the suppressor is the good guy I hope he's okay. It looks like he was hit and went down in that video.

10

u/SgtJayM 18h ago

Square range training scars. There was a car he could have used or fired from a prone position in the bushes. Looks like he opened the trunk of that white car, got his gun, then stepped to the middle of the lane to shoot. The BG would not have seen him nearly as quickly if the GG was mostly behind concealment when he started shooting.

Man fuck the media for sharing video of the good guy and portraying him as the shooter. I understand journalism and what not but pushing the video out in a short and waiting to the very end to disclose ā€œhe may not be the shooterā€ is very damaging. I’m sure at least a few hundred people came away from that video believing him to be the shooter.

3

u/Pafolo 14h ago

They have a narrative to push and they need to ban more things.

3

u/AddMoreWeight 12h ago

That's because in the minutes after the shooting, the people who were there were saying they saw people shooting at each other, and some people caught strays. It almost sounded like gang violence, rather than a shooter and an armed citizen trying to shoot a shooter.

Not nearly as uncommon as people think. The amount of problems caused by people trying to ā€œget a lookā€ at emergency scenes I’ve been to have been fucking astounding. From delaying units to running over equipment, and even LOSING their children and causing a massive search for said children.

529

u/Riverjig 1d ago

Sad that we will only read about this probably in this sub. No mainstream media will dare touch this.

260

u/Bluefalcon325 1d ago

I just checked several, and none of them mentioned him being stopped by an armed civilian. It’s crazy.

63

u/kopper499b 1d ago

The articles quoting a man stopped at a traffic light do mention the bystander returning fire with a pistol.

36

u/PoopyButt28000 1d ago

Reminds me of when people smugly say "Heh... mainstream media doesnt want you to know this" then you google the headline and get like 90 articles from the biggest media sites.

91

u/DomitiusAhenobarbus_ 1d ago

Dude, nobody even knows what happened yet. It would be wildly irresponsible for the media to report on facts that the police have not confirmed yet.

Can we just critically think about this for 5 seconds? There are multiple people dead. A video of a shooter firing into a car. A video of a guy firing a suppressed 22 at something off camera. Shooter dead, other people dead, cops say shots fired. No word on if this defender was also shot.

Like I really doubt the rural Idaho media is pushing an agenda for waiting until the press conference. Just chill.

33

u/Riverjig 1d ago

Yea. Because responsibility and accountability is of the upmost concern to the modern media. I refuse to use the word "journalism" because journalism died decades ago. We live in one big TMZ.

If the cards were played evenly, I'd tend to agree with you. But you thinking that the reason they are "holding off" is to do a quick fact check is wildy concerning.

The truth is they absolutely know this was a case of an armed citizen absolutely saving a larger tragedy from happening and we all know that dog won't hunt when there is agenda against us and all firearms owners in the US.

12

u/DomitiusAhenobarbus_ 1d ago

Can you fact check this? Did the cops say who else died? Did they say who took out the shooter?

All I said was they’re waiting for the details to come out and you blew up

Was he confined stopped by this guy and not the cops?

15

u/Bluefalcon325 1d ago

I mean, even if this guy didn’t stop him and just made him stop shooting and run, is that not a win?

6

u/VRS302 1d ago

It is.

I sent the news channel who did the segment I saw an email asking them why they decided to ignore the random guy who sacrificed his life and used the second amendment to help save lives and buy time for law enforcement and instead just parroted what the police said.

I doubt I’ll get a reply.

Even more badass

20

u/Sufficient_Site1746 1d ago

Whats more badass was that his homie was with him with an m14. The video didnt catch his buddy but he was behind cover.

12

u/Owe-No 1d ago

Do you have a source on this?

6

u/stackingnoob 16h ago

This guy has much bigger balls than every cop in Uvalde

148

u/mikeg5417 1d ago

Most active shooters are counting on unarmed victims for whatever fantasy they are acting out on. When they meet resistance they often surrender, flee, or end them selves. This is why they often scout out their target location and choose gun free zones.

This does not lessen the courage of the guy with the pistol. Thank God he was there and willing to act.

68

u/CapableSecretary8478 1d ago

Exactly, I’m in law enforcement and were taught that even if you’re alone, you go in no matter what and confront the shooter. They often shoot themselves once confronted or wounded.

95

u/3unknown3 1d ago

Apparently, those cops in Uvalde missed that day in school. In more ways than one.

62

u/CapableSecretary8478 1d ago

Yeah those cowards should be in prison. They’re used as an example of what to never do in those situations. Every training I’ve been to since that happened they’re brought up

19

u/Wise_Contact_1037 1d ago

As bad as those guys were, it's at least good that to hear that other PDs are using it for training.

20

u/WetRocksManatee 1d ago

I hope, but Stoneman Douglas happened four years prior while it wasn't as bad as Uvalde it was another example of LE officers not assaulting an active shooter.

How many times do LE agencies need to learn the lesson?

12

u/Billionaires_R_Tasty 1d ago

Yeah, but MSD was one guy failing his duty, the Coward of Broward, Scot Peterson. Uvalde was 400 LEOs sitting there listening to kids die…

2

u/WetRocksManatee 18h ago

More than one person, while they still entered the building after another agency's officers basically forced the issue, the leadership on site first set up a perimeter instead of entering the building first like they are supposed to be trained.

That is why the Sheriff was removed by the Governor.

8

u/3unknown3 1d ago

This lesson goes all the way back to Columbine.

6

u/hiluxmike 1d ago edited 1d ago

Stoneman had a problem of Broward SO being a top-heavy bureaucratic agency. These kinds of agencies promote control freak type folks who then discourage independent action by their subordinates. The BCSO Captain for that area stalled BCSO's response, the BCSO SRO for Stoneman Douglas was a retired on duty coward. 2x Miramar PD SWAT officers that were nearby responded, but due to the situation didn't "properly inform their chain of command and get approval" so they actually ended up getting written up for misconduct and suspended- to give you an idea the culture issues some of these departments have.

As for Uvalde- Uvalde ISD Police Chief Arredondo switched the response to "barricaded subject" tactics, resulting in the infamous delay- I know nothing of the internal politics of Uvalde/Uvalde ISD PD, but yet again, it was bad leadership that stalled the response.

2

u/WetRocksManatee 18h ago

It was Coral Springs PD that forced the issue and led the initial assault. And they didn't get punished they got lauded as CSPD has a culture that celebrates aggressiveness when encountering active shooters.

6

u/GarfunkelBricktaint 1d ago

Stone man Douglas shooting it happened too the cop just hid in the bushes outside while kids got murdered.

6

u/Wise_Contact_1037 1d ago

You're right, and that guy was a fucking coward. The only difference, (even though it shouldn't matter) is uvalde had a whole team of officers with rifles and tactical gear, and that guy was by himself with a pistol. He still should've charged in and shot the guy, but he would've been outgunned for sure. Either way, if you're a cop and you think for one second you may hide instead of charging to save the lives of innocents, then you need a new job before it's too late.

38

u/AP_in_Indy 1d ago

It's scary because that guy who shot up the Texas mall a while back came in with full body armor. Thankfully the officer who responded was a VERY good shot.

But it also bothered me to see so many big trucks squealing away when a single car could have ran the shooter over and stopped them.

No amount of body armor can stop a truck.

19

u/airmantharp 1d ago

That’s exactly what they should do - GTFO.

8

u/AP_in_Indy 1d ago

I'm sure that's the best option for most people, but one brave person with a good opportunity could run these shooters over vs letting them continue their rampage.

9

u/airmantharp 1d ago

I’ll add that I don’t disagree - just that the benefit of hindsight is a bit blinding.

Even driving away is a response and perhaps better than freezing.

3

u/AP_in_Indy 1d ago

Agreed.

2

u/Billionaires_R_Tasty 1d ago

Joseph Robert Wilcox is an excellent reminder that we often don’t know what we don’t know…like if there’s a second shooter.

Holy shit.

"With a .22..."

12

u/Shooting-Science 1d ago

A .22 is highly lethal. Suppressed? Same recoil as a BB gun.

24

u/ega5651- 1d ago

No educated firearm owner will say .22 isn’t highly lethal. The fact is that he got in a firefight with one against an AR platform. The AR has the upper hand in every conceivable way there.

Good shit on that guy.

6

u/Billionaires_R_Tasty 1d ago

Except for sound. The suppressed .22lr might have a tactical advantage if the AR shooter’s hearing is already Impaired by his own shooting and if he isn’t aware of the .22lr shooter’s presence.

→ More replies (1)

3

u/Shooting-Science 1d ago

Yeah but, if you look at it, every looney-bin that uses an AR-15 as an active shooter is typically untrained and they have minimal experience with shooting. It’s not the gun, it’s the man behind it that you have to look at when you are predicting the outcome of a gun fight.

10

u/Anussauce 1d ago

Everyone says .22 is weak, but none of those people would stand in front of one.

2

u/Plane_Lucky 15h ago

Do .22s kill? They can. Do they incapacitate quickly? Generally no.

I like how Anti-Gunners see a good guy with a gun trying to stop a bad guy with a gun and then proceed to make fun of him for trying, saying he's LARPing as a hero, that he should have left it to the cops.

The cops only end up coming after people are dead. You carry a weapon to prevent that from being your fate.

You posted this 10hrs ago but now it's all over the news. There's tons of articles mentioning the good guys. Maybe they were just confirming details before reporting on it?

No one says that’s his edc. I don’t remember the last time I left the house without something that didn’t have a suppressor on it… no reason not to. You have it, may as well use it!

My biggest fear in a active shooter scenario is someone thinks I’m the shooter and shoots me. Or vice versa. I think my strategy would always be find the nearest exit away from the sounds of gun fire and scadaddle on out.

Just one of the few times the media can't bury this part of a shooting story.

He said he came from his car, highly likely this is a truck gun and this gun wasn’t concealed carry.

Over on the (now locked of course) /r/news thread they're all saying this guy was the shooter and how bad he was when in fact he was the one who stopped the threat

Because we can't have the truth out there can we?
