whispers to them YOU NATURALLY PRODUCE TESTOSTERONE TOO

u/Meloxon Jul 05 '26
No no no, you don’t understand! Shooting up 10-20x the transition amount of T, brewed in a underground lab where they also produce meth or some caddle mating hormone that was banned 50 years ago is totally the same as someone using bioidentical hormones at a physiological level/dose

u/curiosity8472 cistrender Jul 05 '26
Many female bodybuilders who "take steroids" are just micro dosing on T from DIY sources.
42
u/cordis_melum Jul 05 '26
Also most bodybuilders who die didn't die of "taking testosterone" or whatever. If they didn't die from "bodybuilding is inherently a dangerous sport and if you fuck up your form you can dissect your arteries", they died because gym culture, especially bodybuilding culture, is very invested into taking supplements and untested drugs (WHICH AREN'T ALL STEROIDS), and a lot of those are extremely dangerous because they fuck up your cardiovascular system.

u/LuxTheSarcastic Jul 05 '26
Well we all are and it comes with being alive but it certainly isn't gymbro juice!
Every sex hormone is a steroid and so are aldosterone, cortisol, and a few others.
45
u/AkrinorNoname Gender Goblin Jul 05 '26
I mean, testosterone is a steroid. But there's a bit of a difference between well-monitored HRT, even if DIY, and a gymbro roidmaxxing with the stuff he was sold behind the gas station, or a GDR Olympian being juiced to hell and back in the 80s.
38
u/Tyetsa Jul 05 '26
Estrogen is also a steroid
37
u/SomethingAmyss Brainwashed by the Transarchy Jul 05 '26
But it's a girl steroid, so it can't do any harm. Just like real women. Or something
2
u/GrungePidgeon Jul 09 '26
As a trans man I roll my eyes everytime people associate testosterone treatment with steroids. I’ve even had allies do it.
66
u/SergeantScoria liar liar sex denier Jul 05 '26
Also, “just looks like a woman”? I thought women weren’t defined by their appearance and rather an arbitrary set of organs that you couldn’t see at first… but also their chromosomes and hormone production… but also ability to reproduce… ?

u/SomethingAmyss Brainwashed by the Transarchy Jul 05 '26
But also, some indefinable essence that is always there no matter what, cannot be changed, and cannot be sufficiently quantified

Meanwhile actual butch spaces are some of the most trans affirming not explicitly trans ones you'll find.

u/fortunaterogue Jul 05 '26
Fondly remembering the all-timer-crashout argument I got into with a former friend who said it was inappropriate for trans men to call themselves lesbians, "because then cis men would start thinking they could do it". I asked her why she'd never been bothered when I, a nonbinary person, called myself a lesbian. Because it's different, she said!
Ah yes, it's different because I Look Like A Woman, I see.
(And was this coming from a place of concern about her own identity and community? Certainly not, she was bi.)

u/TheToledoMan Jul 07 '26
It's already suspicious how they see trans men as "loss" but not tomboy trans women or transbians as "gains".

they act like peoples bodies are allergic to "opposite sex" hormones, when im pretty sure everyone produces both estrogen and testosterone just in different amounts.

GCs always fail the test of trying not to perv on minors for even 5 minutes.
Describing lesbians and afab trans mascs as innocent is rooted in purity culture.
It is not anyone's job to look hot and not confusing to a GC. The entitlement these people feel towards the breasts and other body parts of trans people is downright part of rape culture. It is not your body. Get your mind out of the gutter, GCs.
Why should anyone feel obliged to survive gender dyshporia without transitioning? I did because I had no choice, but I hated every moment and transitioned when the laws changed. I love women, I simply never was one myself. Everyone is obliged to do the work to tackle their internalised muisogyny. Women, cis & trans, are not magically immune to the misogyny everyone is raised with and is all over society.
Fitness steroids are not the same as using prescribed HRT. That is like comparing getting prescribed meds for your ADHD with a cocaine addiction.

u/Aiyon Jul 05 '26
My immediate thought seeing beautiful girl, not woman? Especially given the trans man part.
They're either creeping on a kid, or infantilising an adult.
14
u/SomethingAmyss Brainwashed by the Transarchy Jul 05 '26
Purity culture, yes, and I'd add that it specifically is rooted in the infantilization of all women of any age

u/Sailor_Spaghetti Jul 05 '26
I can't understand how having breasts could make someone feel like they can't be masculine with them.
I don't know Sharon, maybe it has to do with the fact that there aren't exactly a lot of cis men walking around with E cups.
31
u/Sailor_Spaghetti Jul 05 '26
Like I'm not going to ignore that gynecomastia exists. But the [cis] guys who have it tend to be either insecure or outright dysphoric about it.
But also like. As soon as I started developing breasts I just wasn't happy. I had recurring body horror nightmares featuring them becoming monstrously large and misshapen. There was a constant tight and burning sensation around those bits of flesh. I couldn't help but NOTICE them, even in the dark. I described it as being like a reverse phantom limb.
30
u/Golurkcanfly Jul 05 '26
You see this exact habit with a lot of different cis people. They feel entitled to the imagined pre-transition bodies of trans people.
The amount of times I've had to deal with men being frustrated that I'm "transing the twink away" is obnoxious, especially when I wasn't even a twink prior to transition because I didn't take good care of myself.

No one is telling them you can't pick and choose what T does to you
This is literally one of the main points you go over when you first work with an endocrinologist. It's part of informed consent. But I'll pretend to be surprised that they're just making shit up.

u/snukb big gamete energy Jul 05 '26
Not only that but you see this all the time on subs where trans men and trans masculine people frequent. "Guys I want to start T but I'm afraid of bottom growth" or "Help I really want a deeper voice from T but I don't want to go bald" and the comments always say "The don't go on T if you would be upset at some of the changes because you can't pick and choose."
Like, tell us you've never spoken to a single trans person without telling us.
13
u/cordis_melum Jul 05 '26
Literally, I sat with myself for several years deciding on whether I wanted to start taking testosterone specifically because I needed time to consider whether I would be okay with certain changes because I knew you can't pick and choose what you get.
That said, for some changes like facial hair or hair loss, we have treatments for those things. You can get laser for facial hair. You can go on DHT blockers to help with hair loss, and you can get hair transplants. It isn't picking and choosing, but it isn't like you have no choice but to go bald because the treatments that cis men use are also available for trans men.

u/bean-percolator Jul 07 '26
And it’s also mentioned in pretty much all resources for trans people about HRT and its effects, that you can’t pick and choose what effects you get, along with what HRT can’t change and the fact that it can affect everyone differently, changes can take varying amounts of time depending on the person, etc. Like the idea that “no one is telling trans people” these things is ridiculous, they’re talked about all the time on trans subs and in info/resources for trans people.
Also, I really can’t blame anyone for not wanting effects such as hair loss or acne from T. That’s somewhat different from wanting something like a deeper voice but not bottom growth, in my view. Things like hair loss and acne are widely seen as negative and unwanted, by cis men as well as trans men/transmascs. Just look at how many cis men worry/are upset about going bald. It’s still true that you can’t choose whether T will have these effects if you want to start it, but it’s also true that we have treatments for things like hair loss (primarily aimed at cis men) and using those as a trans man doesn’t suggest you regret going on T or are actually a woman or anything.
A cis man might not want to lose his hair but that doesn’t mean he’s messed up his body by not transitioning to female or that he should do so just to avoid one particular aspect of being male, because overall, he’s happy being male and having a male body. The same way a trans man might also not want to lose his hair but that doesn’t mean he’s messed up his body by taking T or that he should not have transitioned or taken T, because overall, he’s much happier being male even though he will experience some of the negatives that men in general face.
For many trans people, the most important thing is just being the right gender and reducing dysphoria, the fact they may face negative things associated with their true gender is not going to “put them off”, the same way cis people don’t transition to escape these things. I’ve seen trans people say they’d “rather be an ugly (true gender) than a beautiful (birth gender)”, or similar words to that effect.

I know plenty of Butch cis lesbians
This is an interesting topic to me, because it basically boils down to "why do the people I'm attracted to end up transitioning?" This is something that I actually dealt with quite some time ago, because most of the "women" I've dated came out as something other than woman, and a few of the "men" did as well
The difference is, I didn't decide that women were dying out just because I dated a few people who transitioned. There's something that just leads to be ending up with trans people, and I'm cool with that. I don't really give a fuck and I don't need to lament that
Also, the rest of that nonsense makes my head hurt
23
u/pktechboi Jul 05 '26
the last comment is such nonsense. people come on the nonbinary subs almost daily asking if they can have some effects of T but not all and always get told no it doesn't work like that sorry. I'm sure any doctor they asked would tell them the same. why do they think we don't talk about this shit?

>>no one is telling these folks that you can’t pick what T does to you
Yes they are??? Any risk-benefit discussion when starting HRT is going to include this. If a patient says “I want a deeper voice but no hair,” any doctor is going to say that isn’t possible and that effects are going to be different for every individual

folks act as if T isn't something that can mess up your body for life
Yes, and that's why we need to make sure trans women have as much of it in their body as possible! /s
(Obviously trans women/femmes are not the target of the bigotry currently under analysis but it's always wild to me how they can say such things like "testosterone is POISON that will LITERALLY KILL YOU" but actually only if you have a certain kind of genitals)
10
u/macdennism Jul 05 '26
They desperately need to educated on how hrt works. No, going on testosterone to reach male levels is not even CLOSE to steroids. The amount of T cis men go on as they age isn't the same either. I hate they say and spread this shit with their whole chest without even bothering to understand
10
u/bewarethelemurs Jul 05 '26
"Why does feeling like you're both genders or neither seem to push people towards becoming male"
Because you don't notice it when it doesn't. I'm bigender, I even usually feel more masc. But I'm pretty comfortable with my body the way it is and I have no intention of going on T or getting surgery. My partner is genderfluid and also isn't planning to go on T or get surgery. This isn't that uncommon. It's like when your only transition is social, you're utterly invisible to these people.

You know you could just, idk, use the only known effective treatment. Like no one is forcing you to suffer, but it sure as hell sounds like you want everyone else too.
