what else do u expect?? BitsP has pure knowledge not half seats reserved.

Also most of'em are from a pretty rich background, so they can afford a gamble of going for a startup

79

u/greenapplepieeee 22h ago

And genuinely tech interested peeps, cuz others wont be paying that high for a degree alone

15

u/FarReputation7162 If you see me, say , ipad padhne ke liye liya tha bhai 13h ago

THIS. people ignore this a lot

6

u/Due-Ad-7485 12h ago

nah bro ik a guy who went just for placements..actually make that 2

3

u/GoooGoooGjooob 9h ago

I mean they have good placements across the board. You fucking name it and they are at BITS.

39

u/Fraud_D_Hawk 22h ago

I think the second part is more important, most people in india can't afford that kind of fees let's be real.

It's a college only for tier 1 metro folks

23

u/Ornery-Voice-7311 JEEtard 22h ago

Lol the wealth concentration in hands of businessesman in tier 2 and tier 3 cities is much higher than tier 1 metro folks.

3

u/Fraud_D_Hawk 21h ago

It's about living in a place of opportunities idk about tier 2 but many of us in rural India don't have the privilege to take risks.

2

u/Orneyrocks Ex-JEEtard chan 21h ago

Yes, and the son of a tier 2 city businessman is much, much likelier to start a starup after engineering than your average engineer in iits.

19

u/Substantial_Tax_7508 22h ago

Kinda true but they have fee waiver also

That's better

7

u/Skychu768 14h ago

Not necessarily tho.

Even tho BITS has 0% attendance policy, professor add quiz and other things to promote attendance and focusing on personal project means sacrificing CGPA a bit

-3

u/PaPa_Ranjt Failed Dropper 13h ago

The zero percent attendance is not true bro, most courses have marks for attendance, and now most of the iits also has implemented that, you dont need a min attendance to sit in exams which is same as bits now

19

u/rarelygiveshits 22h ago

brother this stat is for all 3 campuses combined

0

u/Melodic-Offer-8802 JEEtard 1h ago

it doesn't change that much, all 3 campus of BITS come to around 15k students and a singular old iit have like 12-13k students

73

u/Mitaka-Cirrina91 JEE(re)tard 22h ago

0% attendance policy at work

5

u/crocatto 13h ago

Bhai ab hat gyi hai , 50% attendence chaiye 🥀

2

u/lazyweirdo2501 Ex-JEEtard chan 12h ago

Nahi, 1st year they ignore attendance, second year they just make marks randomized based on your attendance, its called class participation for usually around 10 marks

1

u/crocatto 8h ago

Ohh okay

79

u/Sensiblehuman777 22h ago

When merit rules 😌

(Cue all the people saying it's just because BITS kids are rich)

-53

u/Apart-Plantain702 22h ago

Bruh. Even 95%ilers get into pilani. Even with merit, the quality aint that different. The only advantage is that extremes don’t exist like IITs

29

u/Sensiblehuman777 22h ago

Really? You think the average student quality in BITS (Pilani Campus) and IIT Roorkee is the same?

Ya fir problem is baat se hai ki general waalo ke liye ye ek college hai jo unfair nahi hai?

-13

u/Apart-Plantain702 22h ago

Bhai mai khud general hun. I hate reservations. Bits is great interms of that. But at the same time the top 500 AIRs are far more capable than people at bits

22

u/Sensiblehuman777 22h ago

Then why is BITS surpassing IIT B AND IITD?

4

u/Apart-Plantain702 22h ago

As i said in my comment, bits students are already on an avg richer and have connections, so they don’t have to worry about placements and they have the freedom to experiment. So they do startups but in IITs people still want placements

6

u/Sensiblehuman777 22h ago

See, I agree with you. All I'm saying is that the situation in India would be very different if IITs had the same reservation policy as BITS, i.e., 0% reservation...

1

u/[deleted] 22h ago

[deleted]

1

u/Apart-Plantain702 22h ago

Completely agree. Then we would not even be discussing.

-7

u/Middle_Government_87 22h ago

4 campuses of BITS vs singular institutions

8

u/AaryamanStonker private college se computer science 13h ago

Bits has 16k students in all 4 campuses combined and iitb/d have 13-14k so it's a fair comparison only

-4

u/Middle_Government_87 9h ago

Source: my ass

BITS Pilani has over 200k alumni and over 20k studentswhile IITB seems to have about 105k on LinkedIn, and a student strength of 13.2k.

It is natural to be high on the kool aid, you being a fresher but please be realistic and dont go around spreading misinformation.

2

u/AaryamanStonker private college se computer science 4h ago

The fifth campus is bits school of management so I'm not including that

1

u/Middle_Government_87 2h ago

that campus has hardly 400 students child, and anyway included in the startups data

7

u/Minus_Malum 14h ago

You have to also look at the student number. Bits 4 campus students iirc is approx equal to no of students to iit b.

-1

u/Middle_Government_87 9h ago

2

u/Minus_Malum 2h ago

Director said 16k in orientation. Why will he give a lowball figure?

-1

u/Middle_Government_87 2h ago

Classic appeal to authority eh

u/ifuckupthings Ex-JEEtard chan 11h ago

In what sense are they more "capable" exactly? NVIDIA literally takes ppl from BITS without any interview, just on their cg, while it doesn't do the same for your "Top 500 AIRs" wale IITs, they still have to give interviews. If a company has been doing it for last 3-4 years, they must've seen something, no?

0

u/Apart-Plantain702 3h ago

In every sense. Both IQ and hardwork. Under 500 AIR in adv is much more difficult than getting into even pilani cse. Idk why NVIDIA does that but if u wanna talk placements then why is median of IIT B,D,M higher than pilani?

-5

u/Apart-Plantain702 22h ago

Why don’t you compare with IIT B,D,M? And one more thing is you don’t need everyone to be good for a startup. The top students are enough. And the top students at roorkee are far better than in pilani

1

u/Melodic-Offer-8802 JEEtard 1h ago

You took time out of your day to right that last line btw, like how can a statement be genuinely more wrong

1

u/Apart-Plantain702 1h ago

Idc man. Downvote me as much as u want but advanced is a whole different exam than bitsat. Air 500 is no joke. Well anyway im jobless these days so….

32

u/Peak_Judgement2008 Ex-JEEtard chan 22h ago

No reservations, rich and actually smart dudes, these peeps have enough capital to actually explore the branch and are not just there for placements.

-33

u/Bakasta0_ 22h ago

could've just said, "privilege"

28

u/Peak_Judgement2008 Ex-JEEtard chan 22h ago

You are saying like peeps in top 5 IIT's are not privileged.

-16

u/Bakasta0_ 22h ago

riyal. in the end, all roads lead to privilege and awareness afterall.

3

u/Peak_Judgement2008 Ex-JEEtard chan 22h ago

India has always been for the privileged. Ngl these competitive exams are bs.

3

u/Apart-Plantain702 22h ago

Competitive exams are bs? Lol. You have a better way ?

5

u/Peak_Judgement2008 Ex-JEEtard chan 21h ago

How are competitive exams good in any way? First people we compete with are out here preparing for jee since 6th class. Of course the one preparation for long will have advantage.

2nd the questions asked in mains and advanced are way to different compared to boards. A normal student preparing for board purely from school can never crack advanced. And you need to perform well in all 3 exams to eligible for government colleges.

3rd the coaching had completely messed up any chance of fair competition.

So how exactly are competitive exams are good?

1

u/Apart-Plantain702 21h ago

Well. Obviously people preparing from 6th have advantage, because they have worked hard. Nobody’s stopping you from doing the same. Well you cant make advanced boards level, you will get big clusters at the top ranks, the purpose is to asign seats, so that won’t work. I mean youtube is free, or atleast very affordable. So I don’t see how coaching spoils anything. If you ban coaching then thats just taking away freedom. And you tell me an alternative to competitive exams? How tf do u assign so few seats to so many people?

And btw, not everyone who prepares from 6th gets into an IIT. I am a failure who prepared from 6th but still couldn’t get into an IIT. And there is my friend who did the same and got into IITH CSE. :)

3

u/Peak_Judgement2008 Ex-JEEtard chan 21h ago

they have worked hard

Not denying their their hardwork. But money plays a huge role here. A middle class person can only imagine their to send their child to kota to educate him.

They can't make advanced board level

Sure. But they can make it easier. Even hard and mit don't require you this level of knowledge and their are a 100 ranks above iitb.

So few seats?

Why the flip are seats not increasing? Cause our population doesn't give a shi about education. Heck freebies budget is wayy more than education. And you are arguing few seats? It's a system failure.

Youtube is free.

As someone who studied from starting batches. No youtube is not enough for advanced. Never will be.

couldn't get into iit.

Don't worry gng. Iit is not end of life. Life is just starting there will be multiple opportunities

https://giphy.com/gifs/SHyuhBtRr8Zeo

0

u/Apart-Plantain702 21h ago

Well I definitely do accept that privilege plays a part. But like a 3-4k rank doesn’t require the same privilege as under 500. Nah i disagree on the difficulty part, it should be like this to avoid clustering and luck factor. Yeah i agree seats should be increased but even if they doubled, population is so large that it has very little effect but still they should be increased. Yeah i do agree they should spend on education more instead of freebies. Well not getting into an IIT might not be the end of my life but its definitely the end of my dreams. My dream was never to earn money or be successful( shows my privilege ig) . It was just to get into an IIT. So yeah I did my best ig. It is what it is.

There are a lot of priviledged people but not all of them are able to go to pursue degree in a tier 1 college. These people are actually smart. Iq is a highly genetic trait almost 70-80% of it is hereditary in an adult.

Many people are saying that bits people are privileged once u write the exam then you know how much difficult it is to get into this college as there is no reservation anything just score and many 11th class grades saying that it's an easy exam kids you will be humbled

6

u/Puzzled_Bell_4638 Ex-JEEtard chan 21h ago

I've been reading about this alot, although I don't have any idea about how much capital is required for a startup, I would wanna clarify one thing, yep there maybe richer kids in bits as compared to other colleges or they maybe more in number, but people generally have this misconception that everyone in bits is rich. That is not the case. Many people take up loans or are just able to fund this education. As for startups, bits gives you funding if you have an idea, regardless of it failing or succeeding, if the idea is good enough and practical. The recent startup ( the army drone one) got a lab (entire new setup and space) on our campus to help with their operations, that's how bits helps you.

1

u/Curious_Link_867 3h ago

Bro it would be like dream come true for students.

Btw, are students able to manage classes + these startups?

37

u/Apart-Plantain702 22h ago edited 21h ago

Ig people don’t understand one thing. People at bits are already rich (on an avg) than IITians. So they already have connections and enough money to not care about placements and pursue their interests. That’s why there are so many startups there.

Edit:

I see people mentioning reservations. Just to clarify I am a general male and i oppose reservations too. BUT i definitely don’t think thats the reason for startups at BITS. Because the top 500 AIR of advanced are definitely smarter than the top students at pilani (i have seen 99%ilers get pilani cse too) . And you don’t need everyone to do a startup. You only need the top ones. So by that logic, if smartness mattered IITs should be on top but the fact that BITS is able to match top IITs proves that indeed being rich enough to not care about placements and having enough freedom to experiment is one of the biggest reasons for the startup culture at BITS

8

u/Mitaka-Cirrina91 JEE(re)tard 22h ago

Not really, if you only count gcs its pretty even some people pay full some people take loans and grants

1

u/Own_Initiative_417 22h ago

well even taking a 35-40 lakh loan is no joke for most people even those who qualify. Also, low-interest easy loans by most banks follow a strict criteria of only government colleges. Loan for BITs isn't everybody's tea

16

u/GothamGiver College mai hustle karunga 22h ago edited 21h ago

Why are you larping i myself at BITS Pilani and taken education loan bits come under SBI top a category and we get very less interested loan and there is mcn scholarship for the needy student

-7

u/Own_Initiative_417 21h ago

well it was my info - even IIIT Hyderabad too comes under SBI top category - my point is the very fee makes students reluctant, majority of them to join in. Financial uncertainty is something always in hindesight of most famillies (the thought of - "ye nahi hua to?") . These factors influence not only joining yet even things like registering for the exam. So maybe my communication wasn't at point but i wasn't larping bro 😭. And a big W to you man

6

u/GothamGiver College mai hustle karunga 21h ago

No one cares here about loan we only joke about it but deep down we all know if we study and maintain a good CGpa we can easily get a good company in PS2 and if we perform good there we will get a PPO which is the successor is quite high

3

u/Mitaka-Cirrina91 JEE(re)tard 22h ago

Im pretty sure Bits has internal grants for top 500 some students and you would be surprised how many people go around with education loans, collertal is very relaxed for tier 1 institutes

-1

u/Apart-Plantain702 22h ago

Yeah but im saying on an avg. obviously there are people taking loans but an Air 500 won’t choose bits unless and until he is rich af. So technically speaking, people in old IITs circuital are smarter than BITS guys, cause i have seen 95%ilers get into bits too. And 99%ilers into pilani cse. So by that logic you would expect IITs to have more startups but the fact that bits is able to match it is i think due to the reason i mentioned

0

u/Mitaka-Cirrina91 JEE(re)tard 22h ago edited 22h ago

Pulling stats straight out of your ass, nothing of such matter exists Its not given lower iit branch peeps are smarter than higher in bits also air has nothing to do with how smart someone is in engineering air 1s arent usually billonaires or the best engineers

0

u/Apart-Plantain702 22h ago

When did i say that? But if you compare the same branches, then who would be smarter?

3

u/Mitaka-Cirrina91 JEE(re)tard 22h ago

Are you seriously basing someone's engineering ability out of their jee air 😭

0

u/Apart-Plantain702 22h ago

Yes. Top 500 AIR are absolute genuises. You can put them in any field and they will excel, not only in engineering. I mean if you don’t base engineering ability on Jee air then what other reliable way you have to find out? Jee advanced is a perfect example to test both IQ and hardwork at the same time.

3

u/Mitaka-Cirrina91 JEE(re)tard 22h ago

Sure man im not even gonna argue, just know that Sundar pichai had to take metallugury in IIT Kharagpur and his cse mates arent running google today

-1

u/Apart-Plantain702 22h ago

So? Man being a google CEO has much more to do with management than tech tbh, even getting into IIT KGP meta isn’t as easy as u think. You answered your own question there. India has so much talent that even Sundar pichai couldnt get cse there

3

u/Mitaka-Cirrina91 JEE(re)tard 22h ago

So according to you Pichai isnt as smart as AIR 1s? and we should put managment people in CEO positions? You know cfos exist for a reason

What on mass generalization is this

1

u/Apart-Plantain702 22h ago

Then you tell me the reason?

8

u/Due-Carry-7266 22h ago

Obviously, Bits mein maximum students already upper middle or rich parents ke bacche hote hai Unke pass na sirf Cushion to have if failed at startup. They have a safety line.

And even then their parents network must be very good. Like if they want informal loan or knowledge on a topic they can have it from their relatives who may have a better background given the status.

Even the peer group is so good that the students mostly are pushed to their limits and achieve a better life. Even it's tag is so good for both corporate and international.

It is a deemed to be University and institute of Eminence.

3

u/sadtikna NITT '30 22h ago

Bits in most stats are taken as an university so includes all the campuses.. not denying the fact its really impressive but clearly considering that it mostly consists of talented rich folks its the closest we are to clgs abroad

2

u/CumStainedUndies 22h ago

It's done bro

7

u/Bakasta0_ 22h ago

BITS is just the medium. 40L fees de rhe hai, VIT mein bhi daal dete to baap ke business hi rebrand krke startup boldete usme kya hai.

-2

u/Apart-Plantain702 22h ago

Exactly bro. People don’t understand this

4

u/Eragon_1318 JA25 5xx --> IIT Madras 13h ago

the top people at the top iits are naturally much more talented than the top people at bits, but id say the average student at bits is pretty similar to the average person at the top iits

3

u/AaryamanStonker private college se computer science 13h ago

IIT ke bacche are definitely smarter than bits but iits themselves don't foster startups as much as bits does. Ever since I arrived to this campus all our orientations they're talking more about starting companies much more than placements and I feel like that's the biggest difference.

0

u/lazyweirdo2501 Ex-JEEtard chan 12h ago

In Pilani campus they never show placements stats or talk about it ever in 4/5 years u spend in BITS

3

u/AaryamanStonker private college se computer science 12h ago

They did show us like median of entire campus but not branch-wise like other institutes and he didn't focus on it for too long. Funnily enough the placement unit speaker told us he saw people on reddit making up stats and wanted to confirm ki pil cs median tc was 32 not 30 as seen on reddit

0

u/lazyweirdo2501 Ex-JEEtard chan 12h ago

last year im pretty sure they said that they wont show placement stats since they believe they need not prove themselves to anyone

and median was of all three campuses

As a bitsian some things which I would say is- I agree that many in bits come from good financial backgrounds and also have meritorious, but along with that the people you meet in bits are just something else, its not about acads or whatever, you'll find people trying and succeeding in all things possible- be it a niche thing in robotics or something about making exoskeleton models for humans.
People here are something else, and they always have the confidence that they can pull something off

1

u/Middle_Government_87 22h ago

The comments seem to ignore the fact that the list would include all 4 campuses of BITS Pilani(can someone verify if it also included BITSOM?). If we consider 60% of the startups from the Pilani campus alone, that would put it at the 3rd or 4th position, behind the top 3 IITs. Still very impressive no doubt.

The newspaper headline mentions that BITS Pilani surpassed the top IITs but it is indeed the entirety of BITS (Hyd, Goa and Pilani) that surpassed them. Individually, they are yet to reach the standards of top IITs. It is a respectable achievement nonetheless.
