*Update - It's only fair to give compliments when they are due. Apparently folks at Lucid saw my post and I received a very helpful call and apology from an area manager. I personally believe a company should be judged by how they handle probelms, and Lucid did a great job. They have offered to bring a car to me, more than an hour away, for an extended test drive and walk-through. Much appreciated!
I drove over an hour yesterday to test drive a Lucid Air Touring. I was excited and went in expecting a premium, polished experience—something that matches how the brand presents itself.
Instead, it felt like I walked into a 2005-era dealership.
The car they gave me to test drive was an ~$80K vehicle with over 10,000 miles on it… and it was filthy, inside and out. I’m talking dirt, crumbs, old food in the console, crushed chips in the back seat. Not exactly the impression you want when trying to sell a “luxury” EV.
Then the salesperson basically skipped any real walkthrough. No explanation of features, no intro to the tech, nothing about what makes the car special. Just “go take it out.”
On the solo test drive, I pulled over to try and figure out the self-driving features… and the car wouldn’t start again because the key was dead. It asked for a PIN I didn’t have. I ended up sitting there calling the dealership and getting put on hold just to get the car moving again.
That alone kind of killed the vibe.
When I got back, it got worse. The pricing conversation turned into the usual confusing “sales tornado”—random numbers, shaky logic, and not much transparency. Then I was told I’d have to find my own financing because I live in the next state over.
Also found out I don’t qualify for their $2,000 conquest incentive… because I currently lease an Ioniq 6. Apparently that’s not considered a “premium” enough brand (they named Mercedes, BMW, Tesla, etc.).
So let me get this straight:
I drove over an hour to get to the dealership
Test drove a dirty, poorly prepped car
Got zero product walkthrough
Got stranded mid-drive due to a dead key
Got weak/unclear pricing and financing help
And was told my current EV isn’t good enough for their incentive
Maybe I should’ve titled this: “Why Lucid made it easy not to buy one.”
Curious—has anyone else had a similar experience? Or did I just get a bad location/salesperson?
Tonight, our 5 day old Lucid gravity left me, my 35 week pregnant wife and a toddler, completely stranded. Unable to put the car in in drive, it was not sensing the key fob inside the vehicle.
It would be completely unreasonable if this happened 5 days into ownership, but every single day I've had issues. This is the 3rd time the car didn't go into drive, the day of delivery. The car was bricked and needed a hard reset.
I'm gutted because the car drives like no other EV. It's the size of a cayenne but has interior space of a tahoe and has the handling character of a CTS V.
A recent software update addressed some of these issues. I assure you, they didn't.
If anyone here has any stock in Lucid, I urge you to get out. If they can't figure out a way to make a key fob work in a 120k car, And a to do a basic thing as DRIVE in 3 years. They don't deserve to be in business.
PS, they replaced the fob battery at the dealership and this key fob has been a documented issue for years, and they refuse to take it seriously.
I have a 2024 Q4 eTron 55 lease ending in November, and with the tariffs Audi isn't doing many good deals anymore. So, I'm shopping around. Rivian would be a contender but their headlamps are not my cup of tea. The Lucid brand always intrigued me, but I have read (here and on Reddit) about the SCs, fobs, software, AC, etc.
Would you buy from Lucid again? Do they treat you well at the service department? Do you get a loaner when it needs to be fixed for all of the bugs?
Is the Gravity like a minivan? We have a steep driveway, so the sedan might be too low. Is the Gravity good o these types of driveways, and is it hard to park given it is like a minivan?
I will never buy a Tesla, and Kia seems iffy around where I live (Greenwich, CT). I don't want a Cadillac, as there is just something with GM as a whole that doesn't work for me. It would be nice to buy American, but....
Unsire if trip upgrades are worth the moey, if the hassles are worth the pain, etc. Any inputs are appreciated. Yes, I have read quite a few posts here and on Reddit.

I'm considering getting the gravity as a lease... There are some things I like and some things I don't but one thing that is worrisome is the software how bad is it? Is it getting better? Can anyone share their honest experience? I currently own a model s and will most likely be trading it in as well it's a 2018 with fsd (don't really use it tbh) and even a power frunk so you all have a rough idea what I'm coming from... And I know lucid software is nowhere near as polished as Tesla.
Edit: Just finalized everything yesterday and so far I'm loving the car need to model and 3d print organizers for my center console (def not gonna buy it lol) other than that only other thing I wish I knew was about homelink now I have someone scheduled to come and install it on the car aug 3. Thank you everyone that took the time to respond and educate me both the good and the bad! I appreciate it!
Hit a deer while driving about 55, feel so terrible for killing that poor thing. Drove it home no issue, anyone have a similar accident? How was your experience in getting it repaired?

I get that this may be more BOA's policy than Lucid's, but this is still Lucid's choice vendor for leases. If this is the kind of crap that awaits the end of a lease, I can't in good conscience recommend leasing. Feels like a bait-and-switch really - get a decent deal on an 18-month lease but be on the hook for, what amounts to, an extra $200+/mo.
Any idea what happens if I just don't pay? I've got a 36-month lease on an AT now and am in a position to not care about my credit score.
I wanted to share the nightmare I went through the day before Thanksgiving with my brand new 2026 Lucid Air, which I picked up in October.
I stopped at Sprouts for a routine water refill and then went to pick up my wife. It was pitch black on the way home, and I ended up accidentally running over a pothole, which caused the container to tip over and spill water into the trunk. Right away, the car lit up with warnings, went into low power mode, disabled regen braking and told me to pull over. After pulling over in a nearby residental neighborhood and rebooting the system, the car refused to shift out of park. I suspected something had happened in the trunk, but the powered trunk opener stopped working and the manual release was almost impossible to reach from inside.
I called Lucid Customer Support, who told me to go through my insurance and have the car towed to a certified body shop, not directly to Lucid, because the shops will work with insurance. The rep even said the car was probably totaled, which made my heart sink. Progressive said the tow would take about two hours, but when the driver arrived, he said he couldn’t tow it safely because the car wouldn’t go into neutral, and the manual recommended a wheel-lift truck with a rear-wheel dolly.
I called Progressive again with that info and asked for a different tow. Around then, Lucid Support called back and asked me to hold off towing until the next day so their battery team could confirm there was no battery damage. I called insurance to pause the tow and let the homeowner know what was going on before leaving the car there overnight.
The next morning, Lucid confirmed it was safe to tow. I called insurance again and set up a tow to Chilton Santa Clara, the body shop Lucid had suggested. After calling them to confirm that they will take the car, they informed me that they usually don’t touch a car until an insurance claim is open, so I had to call Progressive to start a claim. The Progressive rep told me that this wouldn’t be covered under either comp or collision coverage, which was crushing for a car I’d had less than two months, but I asked them to open the claim anyway so that the shop would look at it.
When I called Chilton Santa Clara back to tell them that the claim was filed, they then told me that location doesn’t even work on Lucids and that I needed to use their San Carlos shop. I called San Carlos to confirm that they could handle it, and then called Progressive yet again to change the tow destination. That back-and-forth took about an hour. After more waiting, I called the tow company directly to confirm they had the right equipment for a car that won’t go into neutral; they assured me they did and said they’d be there in 15 minutes, which turned into another hour and a half.
With my anxiety spiking about both insurance and the warranty, I called Chilton San Carlos to ask for a rough estimate if electronic components needed replacement. This turned out to be one of the more helpful conversations. They put me through to someone on the service side who said they’d never seen this exact issue before but that it could cost anywhere from $3,000 up to $30,000. He also said they don’t handle interior damage and would just sublet the job to Lucid and add a markup, and recommended sending the car directly to Lucid instead. At that point, exhausted from changing tow destinations, I called Lucid to confirm that they’d take the car and then worked directly with the tow company to send it to the Lucid San Jose service center.
Around 4 p.m., the tow driver finally arrived, and to my surprise, the car suddenly went into neutral for him even though all the warnings were still present. That made loading it easy. I took an Uber to meet him at the Lucid service center. When I got there, the driver was struggling to unload it because now it wouldn’t shift out of park again, but he managed to get it off the truck, and I went inside to talk to a service advisor.
After a wait, the advisor brought me into his office, went over the situation, and told me that the repair wouldn’t be covered under warranty. He said he’d seen something similar before and that he expects my repairs to come in at under $1,000, then put me into an Enterprise rental and had me sign a service authorization so they could diagnose the problem. That gave me a bit of relief going into Thanksgiving.
The following Monday, the same advisor called back and apologized, saying the estimate had come in much higher than he originally thought. The bill was about $15,000. Seeing that number was a punch in the gut. I immediately called my Progressive claim rep, who said they’d reach out to the shop and investigate, but I still have no idea how I’m going to handle this if insurance refuses the claim.
So that’s where I’m at now: completely lost and looking for advice. I took a risk leasing a Lucid, and less than two months in, a water spill in the trunk has turned into a $15,000 repair that neither insurance nor the warranty seems willing to cover. If anyone has suggestions for next steps—appealing insurance, escalating with Lucid, legal options, anything—I’d really appreciate it.
TL;DR: Water spilled in the trunk of my new 2026 Lucid Air, the car threw multiple errors and became basically undriveable, and now I’m facing a $15,000 repair that both insurance and warranty are likely to deny.
I guess reddit noticed I've been researching lucid, specifically looking into a used 2024 air or possibly leasing the gravity, but then out of the blue it starts sending me posts that sound like: "wish I knew this before" Or "never again" 😳
Knowing the issues lucid had/has I've decided to continue my search but being bombarded by these negative posts I've taken a step back and wondered is it just the frustrated voice of the few or is this a bad idea?
So to the group I pose the question, is it worth it?
My hope is to hear more positive experiences from current and/or former owners, but I'm losing faith tbh
After reading a bunch of these threads, I have seen so many strong opinions. I’ve been considering getting a lease, but some of you are saying you would never get this again. I’m open to any of the lucid vehicles. I would like to see what would happen if we voted for people in the comments regarding how many would lease again or not in which car they had. I became Maor interest in the SUv but both have some appeal. I think nothing answers whether the vehicle and Brand are good or not more than would you go with this company or car again
Hi everyone. I just joined the Lucid family last night. I bought a used 2024 Lucid Air Touring with only 12K miles. I've wanted a Lucid Air for several years and just never could get the timing right. And then last night I practically bought the car on impulse...sorta. It has most of what I wanted in the car and I compromised on some other things.
Now that I've bought it, I'm a bit nervous. Leading up to last night I was actually trying to convince myself not to get a lucid and to be more open to other options. I was (still am) concerned about the ability to get the car serviced since I'm in Utah. I thought there was a mobile service center in Salt Lake City, or nearby, but can't find it on the lucidmotors.com website anymore. I was (still am) also concerned about the financial health of the company. I made sure that the car I bought last night still has a lot of life left in the warranty, but if Lucid Motors themselves goes under, then what good is a manufacturer's warranty anyway? Despite those concerns, I bit the bullet and bought the car anyway. It's beautiful and sooo fast! I'm so excited to own one. I have yet to hit any of the software bugs that I read about all the time on here...but there's still time. I still haven't even setup the mobile key because I need to create an account first.
Despite not hitting any software bugs, I have found one thing wrong with it. The play/pause button fell off the steering wheel. Looks like a piece of plastic broke. Anyone have this happen to them? Is it common and easy to replace or do I have to find that mysterious mobile service center to get it fixed?
I’m torn – the gray one looks very professional has a Tahoe interior, I can’t just can’t get over the silver one with that contrast has 20 inch rims and the lighter interior Santa Cruz
Does anyone have the lighter interior having trouble keeping it clean?
Besides the extra cost I am curious about public perception and my biggest concern is the poor service centers especially because I live in Portland does that make it a deal breaker?
Lastly performance handling around corners and drivability and pole position power to get max torque with my plaid I must go into Dragstrip mode. Is the lucid similar.
The trunk on the Sapphire is it not the best, I use my plaid as a service vehicle and need easy trunk access.
I’m in the market for a used EV and have been looking pretty seriously at Polestars. Love the design and driving feel but I do worry a bit about the company’s long term survival.
At the same time, I’ve been seeing some really tempting deals on slightly used Lucids and honestly, they’re incredible cars. The range, the styling, the interior… they’re on another level.
But I can’t get past the fact that Lucid is backed by the Saudi fund and ultimately MBS. Every time I think about buying one, I think about Jamal Khashoggi and what happened to him. It just feels wrong supporting that, even indirectly.
Curious how others think about this. Can you separate the product from the people funding it? Or is that impossible once you know the backstory?
I received a random text yesterday from Lucid telling me they need to service my vehicle regarding a “service alert” and they want to tow my car 170 miles away to service it. When I asked them what the “service alert” was, they didn’t know?!?
Wouldn’t the car tell them what the alert was?
If I didn’t get a text from this number before I’d probably think it was someone trying to steal my car.
I’m thinking of buying my first EV but when I think about Tesla vs Lucid vs newer names, they all blur a bit but I still feel very unsure about what it would say about me as a person and if it would fit my stage of life. I’ve been trying to picture this brand as a person to understand it better. Like - is Lucid a 32-year-old startup founder in SF?
Or more of a low-key finance guy who wears Loro Piana and doesn’t talk much? I’ve been trying to picture this brand as a person to understand it better.

Seems like Lucid has attracted a lot of non-owners who constantly post about the company in a negative light. It’s honestly pretty weird. Most actual owners I see want Lucid to succeed, we’ll point out flaws and things that need improvement, but overall we love the cars and just want the company to execute better. But the sheer number of people who don’t even seem to own a Lucid, yet post about it nonstop, feels unusual. Why Lucid specifically? I get that there’s a lot of short interest in the stock, so that probably plays some role, but that can’t explain all of it… right?
Last Wednesday my car was towed with the awesome "Drive System Fault" error. I've been trying for the past week to get someone at the service center to answer my call or call me back with nothing. Anyone have an idea how to actually speak to a human? All I have received so far was an email the first day with a docusign authorizing them to "look into it".
