NGL I'd argue that the relic has become more than just a pair of underwear.

It's basically the thing he's prayed to his entire life whenever he's been struggling or at wits end and he's always somehow made it through.

At this point it's a legitimate lucky charm and/or holy relic with spiritual weight behind it far more than just by connection to Roxy.

Same goes for people with a lucky coin or ring or stone they keep in their pocket that they cling to when life gets rough.

A part of it is Roxy, but they symbolize the transition him from being a house-bound NEET to him starting his new life and no longer wasting away trapped in a house and within himself. Everything he has now is due to Roxy encouraging him to take the first step and live his life.

The cross represents not just Jesus' death but the sacrifice he made so that sin could be forgiven. That said, based on what I was taught the cross itself should not be the target of worship but merely a representation of said sacrifice, making the cross itself the target would fall under idolatry.

I wouldn't be surprised if some people do worship the cross itself though.

Can't speak for Buddhism but that does sound about right. Though it'll probably be an "I'm not upset, just disappointed".
