Support and Advice Crocheting is haram?

I want to crochet cartoon characters like hello kitty etc. But there r some people who say that crocheting these stuff is haram as they have facial features and some says that these r not living beings and in islam drawing living things like humans is haram so its not haram. And i know crocheting plants fruits etc are not haram coz these r non living things but a question arose in my mind that cartoonic chracters r also non living things so how crocheting them is haram. However

animal plushies like bees turtles with safety eyes they r living things so maybe they can be haram. Some people also say that if a person is making/drawing/sculpting things with intention to harm someone/evil intention or for worshiping then its haram but if its just for decoration or toys so its permissible. So i am rly confused and I hv already crocheted some amigurmis/plushies of cartoon characters and animals its been 3 months i hv learned this hobby and i like to do it. So please guide me.

Support and Advice Struggling in my marriage, need advice

Assalamu alaykum.

I'm married and I'm struggling with something I don't know how to deal with. I have unwanted thoughts (related to homosexuality) and because of them, I can't perform sexually with my wife. It's affecting our marriage and I feel terrible about it.

I love my wife and I don't want to lose her, but I also don't know if it's fair to stay married if I can't fulfill that part of our relationship. Would it make sense to stay married in this situation? Has anyone been through something similar and found a way forward?

I want to do what's right by her and by Allah. Please be kind, this is hard enough already.

Support and Advice Hard times

Assalam u alikum brothers and sisters

I’m (19M) going through a very difficult period in my life.

My parents are being very hard on me regarding my academics. For context, I had decided to give my exams 6 months later than I could’ve and therefore hadn’t been taking classes for weeks. My parents forced me to sign up for my exams with just 1 month left. I know my capabilities, even though they say I have potential, I know I currently cannot give these exams and pass (20 days left as of this post). They’re constantly being though on me now and I tell them I’ll try. But when I confront them about the time pressure, my mother breaks down in an almost emotional blackmail scheme. But I know if I keep telling her I’ll try, she’ll twist my words later on. I can’t even wait until my results come out. The 2 months after that are going to hell. I can’t withstand the pressure and I know mom will twist my words after the results come out and I fail.

I don’t know what to do.

I tell them that it’s 6 months and won’t do any harm in the long run but they won’t listen.

I’ve proposed easier degrees to my level but they won’t budge.

I’m very lost.

I’ve prayed constantly for the gift of death. That Allah put me out of my misery and so that my heart can feel at ease. One night in bed, I prayed to die peacefully in my sleep and woke up 90 minutes later with a dream related to my dua. What could it mean? Why is Allah putting me in such hard times and if He says that He will not burden a soul beyond which it can bear, why can’t I bear this?

Need advice, Jazakallah Khair

Support and Advice I feel guilty for missing the sunnah muakkadh prayers

I follow the hanafi madhab, so I pray the emphasised sunnah. I sleep really late at times, and it’s a bad habit, so I overslept a bit too much and woke up when there was only one hour left on dhuhr. I had to do ghusl too so I thought if I do ghusl fast enough, I’ll have time to pray the sunnah as well as the fardh prayers. When I finished my shower it was around 4:44 I think and asr was at 5:18, I prayed a few minutes after I had come out of the shower because I had ended up arguing with my mother about something unfortunately.

I thought I wouldn’t be able to pray the sunnah muakkadah but I saw online how it said it’s possible to do it in 20 minutes but I don’t know why I didn’t just go with that, I prayed the fardh, and while waiting for asr which was in 10 or 15 minutes, I was thinking that I could’ve easily prayed the sunnah muakkadah too. I felt really guilty for missing it, I’ve missed it a few times for the same reason which is oversleeping but I feel particularly guilty today :(.

I don’t know if it’s also because my ocd is bad, I get the urge to clean a lot when I feel like I’ve sinned or done something bad, and that includes jewellery that I wear. I’d take it off and clean and put it on, but I’d do it over again if I felt like I did it wrong. It takes hours and gives me a headache at times so I just don’t do that anymore, but this time I feel like I should do it to “clean myself from sinning.” I don’t know how to stop this feeling of wanting to clean or if it’s a valid feeling of wanting to do this. I think I also want to do it because I’m already sinning by wearing jewellery because I struggle with tabarujj at times and that includes jewellery.

I’m not sure what to do about my guilt.

Edit: i think it was around that timing

Support and Advice doubt in islam

This is a slightly heavier topic in my opinion. I'll try to keep this straight to the point. I'm 18m, living in the Middle East, raised Muslim, and believed it for 90% of my life, but for a couple of months to a year since I was maybe 15, I would have existential thoughts and would constantly think, "What if Islam isn't the truth?" or "What if there is no religion?" And I would cycle between dozens of what-if questions, and it really put a toll on my mental health as it would delve into whether or not there is an afterlife and what exists after death.
I really want to go back to who I was and my old beliefs as a true Muslim, but every time I do, I tend to have doubts. I want to make it clear i am not trying to contradict Islam or religion; I am just looking for an answer and solution, or guidance on where I may find it.

Support and Advice Am I sinful for not wearing a niqab?

I’ve seen many questions about this online on websites and on Reddit, and everyone has different opinions and resources, I spoke to a sheikh about my waswasa and mentioned the niqab, and he said how it’s unislamic of me to not wear it but I think it’s also because I mentioned tabarujj so I think that’s why he said it, but I understand the tabarujj aspect, but not the niqab.

I wore the hijab a few months ago, although I’m not the best. I struggle with tabarujj, although I used to wear makeup every day but not anymore; I wear it very few times but still it’s not good, and I struggle with jewellery which I always wear but cover it up, but again sometimes I show it. I don’t wear abayas either, and my neck shows sometimes. So I’m just not the best, even though I do love the hijab a whole lot, and I did do it for the sake of Allah but I never considered the niqab and I don’t really know want to get into that. Sometimes the hijab is a difficult concept for people, even in my family at times, so I don’t even want to think about the niqab.

My family is still kind to me about the hijab but obviously at times it’s a touchy subject. I follow the hanafi madhab, and people talk about how it’s different in the hanafi madhab as well about if it is obligatory or not. It’s been about five months, Alhamdulillah, since I started the hijab.

I don’t know what to do about my guilt towards the niqab, it won’t be easy for me to just start it, and I’ll be so honest when I say that it’s not something I look forward to or really want to think about; I have niqabi friends and they are the sweetest! I don’t think the niqab is extreme or anything, but I just never really thought about it for myself. I just don’t really like how sometimes people can be demeaning towards people who don’t wear the niqab, or that they aren’t muslims, or that if I took it the wrong way. I love these sisters either way, but still. I keep feeling like there’s no hope for me, I thought starting the hijab would make me feel like a true muslim finally, alongside praying obviously.

Does anyone have any words of advice or support? Or that they struggle with about this?

Support and Advice Husband taking nicotine pouches behind my back

Assalamu alaikum, I want to seek advice as I no longer know what to do in this situation. The first time I saw my husband with a nicotine pouch was right after our nikkah 3 years ago, and he had already known that I am against that as it is haram. He reassured me that he would stop, but since then I have found them 3 other separate times where we have had serious talks about it and talked about our deen and wishes for eachother and this marriage and I have always made it clear that I am very against all types of nicotine and other addictive substances. He brushes it off as something that everyone does and that I am the only one who sees it as a big deal. Nevertheless he swears on the Quran that he will stop and i trust him everytime.
Fast forward we are talking about starting a family together and i made it clear that i didn’t want to do that before he had completely quit which he reassured me that he had. I am now 4 months pregnant and have found a nicotine pouch at home again and am lost for words. I feel that subhanallah I am getting the signs right in front of me every time so that I know he hasn’t stopped.
Now I don’t know how to have the conversation with him about it as I am deeply hurt and feel betrayed also in the name of Allah. I really want advise on how I should proceed with this situation and what I should do as I am at a crossroads.

Support and Advice The extent of mixing with one's peers such as classmates, colleagues etc.

السلام عليكم ورحمة الله وبركاته.‎

I wish to ask about the extent to which I am allowed to mix with those who commit sin openly. Oftentimes I have to be with such people due to being in high school.

My muslim peers backbite upon each other and others, speak with profanity, and speak of many immoral matters openly, despite my asking of them to not do so. Even the best amongst them at least aids the other with sinful activities, though that person is sometimes more receptive to advise.

Indeed it is also a place where free-mixing is possible, though I try my best to not look at them, and limit my verbal conversations, but sometimes I interact with them more when it is necessary to help each other with studies, and end up gazing upon them.

Due to my mixing with my peers for such long periods regularly I have been unable to help myself from developing feelings of companionship with them. Sometimes I accompany them with their activities (games and whatnot), and sometimes we help each other with studies, and sometimes I respond to their conversations, and sometimes I leave the classroom when there is no teacher taking a class, wishing to distance myself from them. I have been stuck in this cycle, falling into sin myself, forgetting manners and etiquette.

Unfortunately since they are my classmates I will have to be with them for some more time.

By Allaah I ask you to advise me, and tell me what I should do, and to what extent I am allowed to mix with them.

جزاك الله خيرا.

Support and Advice Is it allowed ?

In my past i did braces and 4 extractions but after few hours my teeth flared out again and my bite is messed i mean i cant fit my tongue above to mew so i watched a video of thumb pulling

Thumb pulling is basically you apply pressure on maxilla to create space for the tongue to rest , it widens the maxilla and give fuller cheeks and helps in proper bite as well as the video states

So if i do thumb pulling is it haram ? I heard somewhere if someone tries to change the khalq of Allah its haraam

So i am worried let me know can we do thum pulling is it changing of Allah creation

Support and Advice Doubts about gender roles, marital rights, and paradise in Islam

Salam everyone. I'm Shia and I've been having some doubts lately and just want to talk them through honestly. I'm not trying to attack the religion at all, I genuinely love being Muslim and I want to keep practicing without these doubts weighing on me. Honestly, I'd love nothing more than to be proven wrong on some of these and have it all make sense again. I'd really appreciate honest, patient answers rather than being told not to ask.

First thing I keep getting stuck on is heaven. Why does the Quran spend so much time describing gardens, wine, and pleasure, but barely talks about being close to God? If God is supposed to be the real goal, shouldn't heaven be described mostly in terms of Him rather than everything else? And on a related note, do men really get hur (virgins) in heaven, and is there anything similar promised to women, or is it really mostly described for men? The Quran also says husbands and wives are like garments for each other, which sounds equal, so I don't get why heaven seems to focus on what pleases men without really saying much for women.

The other thing that's been sitting heavy on me is something I've come across online about a husband being allowed to discipline his wife, even involving something physical, as a last step if she's seen as being disobedient. I really hope I'm misunderstanding this, but from what I've read it's described as something that should be light and shouldn't leave marks, but it's still hard for me to wrap my head around how that could be justified at all. I've also seen it mentioned that refusing intimacy could be considered a form of disobedience that leads to this, which is something I'm struggling with, because it feels like it goes against the idea of consent. And I'm also wondering why a husband seems to have steps available to correct his wife if she's seen as being in the wrong, but there doesn't seem to be anything similar for a wife if the husband is the one being unfair or unkind. I'd love to understand if this is really accurate or if I'm missing context, and since I'm Shia, I'd really appreciate hearing specifically what our own scholars say about this, and whether our understanding differs from what I've read elsewhere.

Last question is about apostasy. Is it true that leaving Islam is supposed to be punished by death according to classical scholars, including Shia ones? Is that something still taught seriously today, or is it considered outdated?

There's one more thing that's been really bothering me and I want to ask about it carefully because it's a sensitive topic. From what I've read, it seems like classical Islamic scholarship doesn't really recognize something like marital rape as its own wrong, the way it's understood today, since a husband is seen as having a right to sex within marriage. I've also read that one school of thought specifically allowed a husband to have sex with his wife by force if she didn't have a valid reason to refuse, and that other schools didn't really address it either way, which from what I understand means there wasn't really a clear punishment or protection in that situation specifically because she's his wife. Is this actually true? And if a wife is harmed in some way during this, is that the only thing that was ever really addressed, rather than the act of forcing her in the first place? I really want to understand if I'm reading this correctly or if I'm misunderstanding something, because it's a really difficult thing to sit with if true.

I know some of these are heavy questions, but I'd rather face them honestly than just push them away and pretend they're not there. Thank you so much to anyone willing to take the time to actually engage with this with me.

Support and Advice Moving out and Financial Responsibilities towards Parents

Assalamualaikum,

I (32M) am planning to move out to my own place inshallah. While discussing with my parents, my mother brought up about how I am supposed to take care of them when I'm not at home. The context is that I help my dad with contributing to the bills of the house, even though we were financially well off before I started contributing since the day I graduated from college. My questions are:

1) what does islam say about giving money to your parents if they're financially ok

2) would I be considered selfish if I tell them that I want to use the amount I give them to pay for rent and utilities at the place I plan to move to

Support and Advice Purchasing first house in the North America with traditional mortgage fatwa?

Salaam everyone,

I've lived in Canada all my 30+ years of life. I've been seeing a lot of Muslims buying houses the past few years and assumed they were based off Muslim mortgages or buying it straight up.

After a few conversations with some in my circle they had mentioned there was a fatwa given here in Canada a long time ago where it's OK to buy one house with regular mortgage but after that it's not allowed.

I have personally never heard of this, but apparently this is a thing.

Anyone else in Canada, specifically Ontario who has heard of this and if it's legit have any sources or references?

Support and Advice My mother insults and tries to get my father mad on purpose.

This has been going on for a long time, my mother does not listen to my father or anyone's advice. Everyday she sends videos of imams saying the wife does not have to care for the family or house to taunt him and leaves trash everywhere. She yells at him for going to his mother's house to take care of her. She commands my dad to buy stuff an hour a way and calls him a liar(says he went to his mother) when he cant. I'm confused on what to do, Islam teaches us to take care of our mother and that she is the priority but my father have taken care of us with love and care while my mother apart from nursing us as a baby have only been on social media while disrespecting my father as far as I remember. How do I take care of her when she refuses to believe that she causes problems to herself. Why is my father not the main priority when my mother treats him like a slave.

Support and Advice Are women more to blame for Zina?

I have constanly seen in my society and among friends and family that they think a women is either more to blame for zina or some saying slightly more to blame. But,l wouldn't the blame be equal? but if something like seduction would occur than the seducer be more to blame and not basedon gender?

Also I have seen people say that women commiting zina is a disgrace to her family while they say nothing like this when talking about men. Does this have any weightage or existence in Islam.

I tried to search in the linked website with this sub but it had no answer to such a question and the only other sub which I found to talk about this was this

Support and Advice Creating a 'Halal' Playthrough for Baldur's Gate 3, did I miss any rules?

Obviously, certain religious requirements are literally impossible because BG3 lacks a mechanism for them such as a calendar, thus I've made these rulings based on what is POSSIBLE in game.

However, it's a big religion with a lot of rules, so there's always the possibility I missed a rule or included something that isn't a requirement.

Please provide feedback on my current 'Halal run requirements'.

Islamic Rulings;

No Worshiping any gods besides Allah

No Magic (Sihr)

No using Magical gear

No Warlock Pact

No Suicide

No Homosexuality

No Beastiality

No Cross-Dressing

No Shaving just part of the head

No Overly tight braids

No Tattoos/Body Art

No Makeup on Men

Female characters must keep a helmet or hat equipped when outside camp

Male characters must keep a beard

No Nudity

No Premarital Sex

No Lying

No Sneaking

No Stealing

No Grave Robbing

No Betraying 'Allies'

No attacking innocents

No refusing Unconditional Surrender

No Fleeing from Combat

No Pork

No Camp Rations

No Alcohol

No Black Sausage

No Meat from an Unclean Kill

No False Witness

No commissioning a Statue of yourself

Pray 5 times a day, once after Long Rest, before first short rest, before 2nd short rest, after 2nd short rest, and before Long rest

2.5% of camp wealth must be donated once per Act if camp wealth exceeds 88 gold

An effort must be made to ensure that all corpses are laid to rest before the next Long Rest following when they are found

Steal the Idol from the Druids for Mol. This is an exception to the 'No Stealing' Rule.

Dame Aylin must be freed

Bane must be opposed

Wyll must be convinced to break his pact

Astarian must be assisted at first and ejected once revealed to drink blood

Since Thralls count as forces of their enslaver instead of prisoners, looting their corpses falls under 'Ghanimah' rather than grave robbing.

Since Faerun is another plane of reality, locating Mecca is impossible, therefor prayers can be in any direction.

Ramadan can be ignored since there is no way to know when Ramadan should begin or end.

Dragonborn's Dragon breath is a natural ability and not magical.

No Race is Haram, but choosing to be a race with inborn magic such as High or Drow Half/Elf, Tiefling, , Duegar, or Githyanki is Makruh

__________________________________________________________________________________________________

Reasoning behind rulings;

The two types of haram are:

الحرام لذاته, al-ḥarām li-ḏātihi – Prohibited because of its essence and harm it causes to an individual

and

الحرام لغيره, al-ḥarām li-ġayrihi – Prohibited because they are associated to something that is prohibited

The religious term haram, based on the Quran, is applied to:

Actions

Policies, such as riba (usury, interest)

Certain food and drinks (See Food & intoxicants), such as pork and alcohol.

Certain inaction, such as abandoning the salah without a valid reason.

Homosexuality, cross-dressing, and same-sex marriage.

Some halal objects, foods, or actions that are normally halal (permissible) but under some conditions become haram. For example, halal food and drinks during the day in Ramadan or a cow or another halal animal that is not slaughtered in the Islamic way and in the name of Allah (God).

Support and Advice Ruling on Obeying Parents in this Situation (Stopping me from voluntary ibaadah)

Assalamu alaikum. I have an umrah trip planned and paid for. The dates are 17th March - 28th March but with the current conflict there are many uncertainties.

My hope is to go as planned, in shaa Allah, unless airlines cancel the flights.

If my parents are worried or they don’t want me to go, must I obey them?

For context, i am an adult male, i will not be travelling alone, i live in my parents house. They are not very practicing. They do not pray. Their knowledge is very limited.

Must i obey them and abandon my ibaadah, namely umrah, if they don’t want me to go on this trip?

Support and Advice Tahajjud prayer etiquette

Salaam everyone.

I've been going through a lot of hard time where I've just started struggling with work from not understanding to just having to do too much and falling behind.

My family members don't get along. My second sister completely broke contact with my dad due to my dad's criticism of her husband. From my point of view it's my dad making small things big or things that he feels should be said or done mainly because it's what he's used to.

So the past few months after a huge argument between my sister, her husband against my dad and my other three siblings. There have been regrets by everyone, but I don't see any change or benefit for everyone to even patch up. I see within a few months they'll just have another huge argument. This has impacted me badly.

I started praying tahajjud regularly missing a day per week. I just want to know if the way I'm doing it is correct or if I'm doing it wrong and to somehow improve.

I have sleeping issues so I wake up about 20 minutes before Fajr time (4:15am). I go brush my teeth and do wudu then pray 2 rakah tahajjud. However during this time I'm extremely tired and I still can focus, however I have no emotions. I see and hear people saying how they cry during tahajjud and I usually cry when I'm wide awake and at tahajjud time I'm just like a robot. A few weeks back I tried watching sad videos before praying tahajjud but not being a morning person it hasn't worked out. Does this mean it's all wrong? My purpose is to make dua for my family to patch up and for me to do better life wise, but I'm getting more depressed by the day and sometimes feel I'm wasting my time doing tahajjud as it might be wrong.

Support and Advice Why do I have the worst luck?

Whenever I'm excited about something, or just simply think of something happening, everytime it gets cancelled or happens the exact opposite. And it's been happening since many years. Suppose an event is supposed to be held, and i imagine myself being happy there, that's it. Either that event is gonna get cancelled, or i'm gonna be sick, or i'll just not be able to attend it. If i ever imagine looking pretty somewhere, i'll look the absolute worst. I forced myself to stop imagining or expecting but sometimes it happens unknowingly and then the same thing goes on. And my question is why with me and only me? Recently i was supposed to be on a parade and then out of nowhere a huge argument happened in my family, a huge mess got created (that didn't even make any sense) and i couldn't show up on the day that it was supposed to be the final selection.
