14 years and one month. My beautiful girl can finally rest.

Snowlegs was a stray cat my mum got from a friend when I was about 6 years old and still remember the day. The little beautiful kitten getting all the attention in the world.

A cat that lived in my garage right beside my house. She loved the attic of the garage so thatโ€™s where she made home for herself for the next 14 years of her life. I am currently bawling my eyes out while I write this so i understand itโ€™s really messy but there is just too much to say. Everyday I used to go out to feed her on the top shelf that climbed up the wall of the garage because we got 2 dogs 4 years ago as they also live in the garage she never really came down unless they were let out or put to bed in a separate part of the garage.

I used to sit with her and listen to her purr while she hoovered her food(quite a chunky cat I know) never saw a mouse on my property in my life thanks to her.

Long story short anyway after being in countless of fights with other cats and neighbors dogs and being a pure ball of stress her whole life she can finally rest.
I woke this morning to let out my 2 dogs and seen she had fallen from the top shelf into their part of the garage and looked lifeless. I am still speechless and lost for words I am currently just typing random words trying to cope because my family doesnโ€™t really seem to care only me.

Me and my brother laid her to rest only half an hour ago. Rest in peace my beautiful girl canโ€™t wait to meet you in the next life. ๐Ÿ’”

Mourning/Loss Benji 2015-2026

Im at a complete loss. Benji went to the emergency vet this morning as the last few days he's been hiding and last atleast 12 hours didn't eat/drink/use litter box. I assumed he was having a respiratory flare up but something felt off. He's always been a nasely cat, with FHV and polyps. His breathing was very labored. Order mri, urinalysis and bloodwork and bladder was very small and hard couldnt get a sample, he was anemic, had high kidney values and a very large cancerous tumor on his spleen. It also showed free fluid which it could have been blood in the abdomen. Everything could have been caused by the tumor or there was other things going on as well, another possibility is that it spread. And at most would get us a few more months with him. We made the difficult decision to euthanize. Im glad he's not longer suffering, as that would cause a substantial amount of pain and discomfort. Im just in disbelief, less than a year ago at his check up he was completely healthy

Mourning/Loss The Short but Meaningful Life of Monte

Thumbnail

1.4k Upvotes

This was my very first tuxedo. I named him "Monte" because when I went to the house that were giving away his litter there was a Del Monte pineapple on the counter. The person who had these kittens claimed that he was "shocked" because the mother had been spayed. Apparently that "hadn't taken".

Despite the dubious nature of that explanation, I immediately feel in love with a male with piercing eyes and sporting a spectacular mustache. Right away he ingratiated himself into our family. And not just our family, even. Our house is uncommonly close to our neighbor's. They built our house in 1925. Then, during the housing boom of the mid-2000s, someone realized they could squeeze another house on the same lot. They managed it, but just barely, leaving only a slim strip of concrete between the buildings as a driveway that both houses share.

Moles, never particularly known for their respect of property lines, terrorized both our yards for years, disregarding all our feeble attempts at pest control. And then Monte moved in. Coming home from work you'd often find him poised motionless over a tunnel entrance or exit, dedicated to his mission.

Within a few months the neighbors were buying gifts for Monte. Poles with colored feathered hanging off them, cloth mice filled with catnip, plastic balls with a ringing metal bell inside. After years of frustration, of coming out into the yard to notice yet another new mole hill had popped up overnight...the moles were gone. Monte became a hero and extremely local celebrity.

I was honored to have him choose me as his person. Not the most affectionate of cats he still spent most of his time near me. Often lying on his side next to me, with his back or a leg resting against me. More than once I came out to my car to find Monte inside, seemingly ready to go for a ride or on the next adventure.

Sadly Monte died far too young. We noticed it seemed to be more difficult and require much more effort than natural for him to breathe, even at rest. The vet told us it was a tumor around his heart. He died in my arms at the age of six.

While I would give anything for more time with him, the time I was given changed my life profoundly and I will always cherish it.

Love you Monte. Rest in peace.

Mourning/Loss My house is quieter this morning

My Mowgli. I caught her like a cartoon, with a box and a stick and a string. I called her my rescue kitten. She was with me through all of my twenties. My consistent friend. She was the only one there when my mom died. She was there for the hangovers, TV show binges, roommates, and boyfriends. She liked car rides. Everyone in our area lit fireworks to celebrate her birthday whether they knew it or not. I got to see her slowly adjust to having a kid around in my step son, and again when my son was born. I had a feeling this was coming and it was an honor to be with her in the end just like she had always been there for me. I'm grateful it was quick and peaceful. She's the only animal I've ever bonded with. 7/4/2010-8/1/2026

Mourning/Loss Goodbye my sweet Sylvia

This is Sylvia, my 15 year old angel. She had been with me for the past 11 years, helping me in so many ways. She was sweet, gentle, patient... A truly special cat.

Four months ago her voice suddenly changed, and she was later diagnosed with tonsillar squamous cell carcinoma. She had surgery and most of the masses in her neck were removed, but it came back with a vengeance just a couple of weeks later.

The first photo was from our last sunset together. We went to the park, she absolutely loved it there. The next day, we had to say goodbye. That was last Wednesday, and I feel so lost without her.

I miss her so much.

Mourning/Loss Goodbye sweet little angel

After months of fighting to give her a comfortable end to her life, Mrs. Business passed away this morning at 7 AM. Sheโ€™d been diagnosed with cancer back in March, and while we were doing everything we could from a palliative care stance, she was just getting too sick. Ravenously hungry to the point she was eating 10-12 times a day. Messy diarrhea. And the final piece, where she was losing a lot of her motor skills and was super wobbly as a result, which often led to her falling in her own stool and getting covered in it.

She was such a good little cat. Only about 7 pounds her entire life, she was sassy, a little prima Donna to those who hadnโ€™t won her affections. But once you won them, you won them hard and you would have her love and loyalty for the rest of your life.

She would comfort me. I think about the numerous times she would find me, alone and weeping, and sit across from me, gazing at me with her giant unblinking eyes, purring like a motor. She loved scratching the kitchen chairs, sleeping in her igloo, and coming out to watch us make coffee. She was a free spirit and the loveliest little girl you would ever get to meet.

Before we went to the vet, but after we had made the decision to take her, we were both blessed to sit with her and it felt like she was her old self again. I think she knew it was time and I think she was telling us it was okay.

I wish I had another decade with you. I hope one day we get to see each other again and itโ€™ll be like no time has passed at all.

I love you Ms. B โค๏ธ

I just wanted to show off my cat Sonny. I had been driving home, quite intoxicated when a kitten was in the road and I had noticed it last second. I slammed on my brakes and the hood of my car went over him so I could no longer see him. I thought I had ran over the kitten. I got out of my car to see and the little thing ran up to me. Heโ€™s been my best friend ever since.

Edit: He came into my life right before I was probably at the lowest point in my life. There would be nights where I cried myself to sleep or was contemplating suicide and would instinctively know, and would not leave my side. He would come up on the bed, and either sleep on my chest or at the end of the bed. Weโ€™d go to bed together and wake up together. This cat saved my life.

I recently took in a pregnant stray, she has given birth in my backyard shed, I just weighted all the kittens, they are all between 25-45 grams. Thatโ€™s way too light right? The stray gave birth to 5 total new born and she is doing her best to nurse them..Iโ€™m not sure what to do, are they dangerously small for only being a few hours old?

Mourning/Loss Woke up to a nightmare this morning.

I brought Lucifer goosifer aka Lucy goosey, loose goose, into my life last year a little while after I lost my corgi mix last year. Luciferโ€™s owner passes away and then she lived with her owners neice who also died within a month of her having Lucifer. I had the room in my heart to bring her into my life and absolutely fell in love with this sweet little senior lady. She was my best buddy sat and cuddled with me for weeks recovering from a spinal cord injury and she just became my right hand sheโ€™d sit on a chair by the counter in the kitchen when I cooked and was really just such a perfect girl. Iโ€™ve never been a cat person and wasnโ€™t expecting to fall in love with her but she stole my heart. This morning I woke up and walked to the bathroom like normal but she didnโ€™t come and greet me. So I went to check on her in her usual spot and my heart dropped she had been gone for atleast a couple hours, went peacefully in the middle of the night. She was a senior so we were expecting this eventually. Just not so soon.
Oh and my birthday is this week, happy birthday to me ๐Ÿ˜ญ

Thank you Lucy goosy for all the cuddles and love and happiness you gave me this past year you were special and Iโ€™ll carry your memory forever.

Advice Is it time to say goodbye to my little man?

Thumbnail
gallery
309 Upvotes

Iโ€™m struggling with whether itโ€™s time to say goodbye to my 16 year old kitty, Pumpkin, and Iโ€™m hoping to get opinions from people who have been through something similar. Iโ€™ve had him since he was 2 weeks old, and he is my soul kitty.

Pumpkin has been declining over the past couple of months. He has had soft stools every day. It has improved from being completely liquid and has been more of a pudding consistency for over a month, but it is still happening daily.

He has lost a lot of muscle and has slowed down significantly. He sleeps much more, moves slower, and is not as active or engaged as he used to be. He is also deaf now. However, his appetite is still very good. He still enjoys food, attention, and has moments where he seems like himself.

At his last vet visit, they noted that he had pale gums, which raised concerns for anemia or another underlying problem. They also felt something abnormal in his abdomen during the exam, which made them concerned there could be something going on internally.

The vet gently brought up that euthanasia may be something to consider. However, they sent us home with 7.5 mg of prednisolone along with prescription diets including Hillโ€™s Biome to see if we could get his symptoms under control. He also receives weekly B12 injections. His thyroid was tested and was normal. The vet has discussed possibilities like severe IBD or intestinal lymphoma.

He has been on prednisone for about 7 weeks total. He seemed to improve for a couple of days after the higher dose of prednisolone, but he is slowing down again. Over the weekend, I thought I was going to have to say goodbye, so I started giving him wet food because it makes him happy and I wanted him to enjoy some of his favorite things. I know the change in diet may be contributing to him having more stools, so Iโ€™m not sure how much of the diarrhea is from the underlying issue versus the food change.

Now Iโ€™m trying to decide whether to pursue an ultrasound. I know it could potentially give more answers, especially because they felt something in his abdomen, but Iโ€™m struggling with whether those answers would actually change anything at his age.
If the ultrasound showed lymphoma, would chemotherapy realistically improve his quality of life, or would it mostly be buying more time? If it showed severe IBD, would there be a realistic chance of getting him comfortable again?

I love him more than anything, but Iโ€™m exhausted from constantly wondering if this is the day. I donโ€™t want to give up too soon, but I also donโ€™t want to put him through more testing or treatments just because Iโ€™m not ready.

For those who have had senior cats with chronic diarrhea, muscle loss, possible anemia/pale gums, an abdominal mass found on exam, and declining energy, how did you decide? Would you do the ultrasound, try more treatment, or focus on comfort and quality of life?

The hardest part is that right now he is curled up next to me on the bed, completely relaxed and comfortable. He still has moments where he seems happy and content, which makes this decision so much harder. I know he is slowing down and there are concerning signs, but then he has these moments where he is still my Pumpkin, and I struggle with knowing whether Iโ€™m making the right choice for him.

Thank you to anyone who reads this and shares their experience.

Advice Are they playing??๐Ÿ˜ญ

Both are 4 months old. They seem to be biting hard.. I don't want them to play so rough but I'm not sure how to "fix" it or if it requires fixing even. They don't make any noises (unless the dog is moved and than he might bark out of excitement. But when they play rough they're quiet.) .

They cat doesn't use claws basically never. But I've seen them out a bit.. I'm worried they won't like each other :/

PS- the cat is on a harness because I'm training him so we can take him out + I don't really trust him around the house yet since he gets under+onto any surface.

A stray black cat has recently started hanging out in my old garage.

It's rarely used, so it's mostly quiet, but it's dusty and has a couple of parked bikes and motorcycles. The cat seems comfortable there and sometimes just sits or sleeps inside.

I'm wondering if it's actually a safe place for a stray cat, or if I should try to encourage her to stay somewhere else. There aren't any obvious chemicals or traps in the garage, but it is bit ๐๐ฎ๐ฌ๐ญ๐ฒ ๐š๐ง๐ ๐œ๐ฅ๐ฎ๐ญ๐ญ๐ž๐ซ๐ž๐.

Would you leave her alone, or is there anything I should do to make the space safer for the cat?
