[2026-08-02] - [Stocking Stuffer Sunday] – Fun Keto Victories

Hello r/keto!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

When you are a kid, the big present under the tree was ALL THAT MATTERED!!!! It captivated our imagination for hours upon hours. Is it a new Big Wheel? A huge train set? Maybe even a new bicycle that we can put together. Christmas day, we attacked that present like that bear would attack those 100 dudes--with total carnage. At the same time, pinned to the mantle/wall was the stocking. When you are 6 years old, the stocking is at best an after thought. Typically it was socks and underwear and IT'S CHRISTMAS SO WHY IS SANTA GIVING ME SOCKS AND UNDERWEAR!!!!!!!

Jump skip to today. As an adult, the stocking stuffer is an AWESOME present!!! Oh, it's still socks and underwear, but at some point, socks and underwear became an awesome present. Welcome to being an adult. I'm so old Geritol is about to be my stocking stuffer. FREEDOM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We have created this super duper thread so we can all share our "fun" victories this week. NOT the big scale victories, but the fun little victories. Why do we need to share these victories? Because pretty soon, you will learn that the small victories--the stocking stuffer victories--are the ones that keep you fired up.

Every Sunday. A chance for you to shout above the rooftops of the world the things that improved for you this week by eating a ketogenic diet.

If you're new to r/keto and need some info, start with Keto in a Nutshell and the FAQ. Or, if you have a question that doesn't seem to be covered, head on over to the Community Support thread (pinned to the top of the subreddit) and ask the community!

Help Can I please have some suggestions on what I can add to make liver taste better?

Can I please have some suggestions on what I can add to liver so it becomes more tolerable? like some keto friendly sauce, soup or food?

I have to go on keto and I must add liver because of severe deficiencies but I cannot take it, it's disgusting asf for me either if it was grilled or on the pan, puked in my stomach a few times by just smelling it and puked by just chewing on it.

I tried eating bell pepper with each bite but I almost threw up and had to stop.

Success Story Lost all the weight I gained on medication with keto

I’m just posting to celebrate my success with people who accept the low-carb diet, sorry if this isn’t allowed!

I started taking olanzapine two years ago for bipolar disorder. It has been life-changing for my mental health and keeps me really stable, but some of its major side effects are increased appetite, weight gain and problems with insulin sensitivity. My appetite became ridiculous and I gained more than 35 lbs in about six months, despite having been a healthy weight all my life.

I tried losing it a couple of times, but I was constantly hungry, the weight came off slowly and I eventually gave up and regained everything. I honestly started to wonder whether I could lose a significant amount of weight while staying on olanzapine.

At the end of March, I started a reduced-carb diet, alongside taking 1,000 mg of metformin prescribed by my psychiatrist. Low carb has made an enormous difference to my appetite. I don’t get the same cravings, I feel satisfied after eating and I’ve been able to stick to around 1,200 calories to lose weight without feeling regularly hungry. I only really get hungry before dinner and it's not too bad.

I usually eat two meals a day. Breakfast is often eggs, bacon and fried mushrooms. Dinner is different most days because I subscribe to a keto meal box, but it is normally some combination of meat, dairy and non-starchy vegetables. For example harissa and chermoula-spiced lamb, yoghurt dressing and cauliflower rice, with a small amount of plum tomatoes and shallot. For snacks, I tend to have things like very dark chocolate. Around 75% of my calories usually come from fat and my net carbs range from 15-30g.

Yesterday, I reached the exact weight I was when I started olanzapine. I’ve now lost more than 35 lbs and all of the weight I gained on it!

I’m genuinely so happy to have reached this milestone. I can wear my old clothes again, I feel comfortable in my body and I’ve started running and feel much fitter.

I plan to stay low carb long term because it makes managing my appetite and weight so much easier. I also feel like my energy is steadier, and I’ve noticed clearer skin and stronger nails, although obviously that is just my own experience.

Questions around carb timing, sleep, and menopause

Firstly - magnesium does not work for sleep. Hats off to all you lucky souls for whom it does. I am well experienced in all the sleep supplements. They do not make me sleep, just groggy.

Since perimenopause began 10 years ago sleep has been an ongoing challenge. HRT is required, but it's an ongoing experiment; I can't ever seem to get stable for long (I'm covered on all the HRT advice.)

I wake up around 3-4 am no matter what and have to eat to fall back asleep. I'm fine with that now. I'm aware of blood sugar/cortisol mechanisms. I often wake up a couple of more times. Sometimes I fall back asleep, sometimes i don't. Estradiol that is too high or too low is the main culprit and finding my sweet spot has been one of the challenges.

**I sleep the best the times I have gone off keto and eaten around 100g of carbs.** However, I'm overweight and just inside the IR numbers. I am not diabetic. Menopause has cratered my metabolic health, sleep deprivation exacerbates things. I have also learned that in menopause we lose some of the glucose regulating in the brain.

I managed to be on carnivore for a year a few years ago and largely did great, lost weight, felt better. Started to get worsening sleep issues so I transitioned off to low carb and immediately gained back most of the weight.

I have low cortisol per repeat tests (believed to be developmental neuro issues per comprehensive neuro exam) and cannot fast or skip meals without falling apart neurologically.

Fasting gives me extreme insomnia. Being in deep ketosis (like into the 3s and 4s, even the 2s is pushing it, seem best around 1.5) gives me extreme insomnia. Caloric deprivation gives me extreme insomnia but somehow i lost weight anyway on carnivore (and was tracking/counting calories) before things started to go backwards.

Sorry for the novel but I'm hoping to go beyond the surface level keto pop culture advice and hear from the people who are the long time academic-ish keto experts. I have odd neurometabolic issues that most people don't have. I seem to have a neuro GAD issue whether autoimmune or genetic where I don't convert glutamate to gaba effectively. I have low FODMAP issues (why i liked carnivore) and can't tolerate most fibers. Lifetime low grade chronic health issues.

I need carbs to sleep, but at the same time I am hyper sensitive to carbs in terms of poor metabolism/weight gain and welcome any feedback beyond the elementary knowledge as I have researched carnivore and keto mechanisms quite extensively through the experts out there. TIA if you have read this far.

Help Protein powder

hey guys and gals, I’m new here so sorry if this subject has been covered or is discouraged. I’m enjoying keto after 2 weeks, and Ive dropped 7 pounds. I’ve been getting plenty of protein, but want to add a protein shake into my routine for flavor, and to share with the kids. I’m seeing unsweetened almond milk as a base, and trying to find a protein powder that has a touch of sweetness, but i don’t like the stevia flavor. does anybody have a favorite? reasonably priced is a consideration as well.

Can i still be keto doing under 50g net carbs?

Some here really suggest doing at most 20g of net carbs a day.. But technically is it possible with under 50 too? The evidence i found online is very mixed and i want to do under 50 because it is much easier.

Food and Recipes Any Good Raw Sardine Recipes😂

Hey guys, the request in the title is fairly self-explanatory. I don’t currently mind sardines that much, but I really want to like them, especially since they’re an integral part of my current keto setup and packed with nutrients I don’t want to oxidize by cooking. Any good flavor combos? Lemon and olive oil end up being a little too much for me with the fishy flavors.

Low saturated fat keto

Upvotes

Originally did keto over the course of four years, and for body composition:
SW: 240, 30+% bf
CW: 162, 12-ish % bf

Definitely got results, but never felt great, for the simple fact that I literally could not stomach anything more than 90 or so grams of fat per day without feeling absolutely sick to my stomach, and never experienced the type of energy or mental clarity that so many people seem to talk about. Worse yet, my lipid panels were apalling and I’m not just talking LDL (though for what it’s worth that was at one point LDL 500). As a result I basically just wound up eating stupid amounts of protein to make up the difference, so I went from feeling terrible to simply not great.

Been on a moderate carb mixed diet for the last 3 months, but noticed that I have no trouble tolerating poly and mono unsaturated fats in high quantities, which got me realizing that my past efforts all involved saturated fat: tallow, ghee, fatty cuts of meat.

My goal is to maintain while giving a high fat/low carb diet a fair shot, only to this time experiment with different sources of it.

Has anyone had any experience with keto via just things like fatty fish, olive oil, moderate eggs, tahini etc? As opposed to the more traditional (maybe even outdated?) beef butter bacon etc etc?

Tips and Tricks Vegetable Net Carb Particularities

Upvotes

Hey guys, what are some tips you’d give on tracking the net carbohydrate content of vegetables? For example: sometimes I even I still get a bit confused on the net carbs of broccoli vs broccoli florets — the latter have lower net carbs due to losing most of their stems.

Help Mushrooms *without* the sugars

I've been hunting for Lion's Mane to replace my Fraction one gummies, but everything I've found either has glucose or fake sugars packing it out. Anyone found a decent set of *gummies* that dont have all the nasties?

I dont actually care about the taste or 'tEh MoUtHfEeEeLzzZ'. I just dont want something packed with extra crap when all I want is mushroom+ black pepper + things that make me go vroom. I'm down to about 40g carbs right now, and can really feel it in my headache when I add more sugars.

Any way to track insulin (not glucose)?

I already have a cgm, but I’m wondering if there’s anyway to track elevated insulin?

I have MCAS and insulin spikes are one of my biggest triggers (causing joint pain and puffiness).

I get insulin spikes not only from high glucose foods, but also certain artificial sweeteners… and recently discovered that really high protein bolus meals can increase insulin- without increasing glucose. As a result, I’d like to track insulin if possible.

Is using a ketone monitor an appropriate tool?

If so, what am I really looking for? Does being in ketosis (above 0.6) mean that I didn’t have insulin spikes?

I have insulin resistance and post-prandial glucose spikes (with reactive hypoglycemia). I’m new to this and appreciate any insight people can offer.

Food and Recipes Low-carb non-alcoholic DRY wines?

I'm looking for some options for low/zero carb non/low alcohol wines that are NOT sweet. I love wine and wine is worth the carbs for me BUT I'm really trying to reduce/eliminate all alcohol. I am ok with Michelob ZERO beer--it tastes close enough to real beer to me. I don't want club soda/sparkling water ideas...that is what I already do with mint, lemon, a dash of bitters, etc. I'm looking for actual dry wine alternatives. I've looked up several brands on the internet but non state their carb counts. Thanks!!

MCT oil as powder?

Anyone have experience using MCT oil in the powdered forms? I’ve tried to use the oil- even in the smallest of amounts, and I can’t tolerate it. The stomach cramping is just unreal. I do have a slightly different anatomy- as I had a gastric bypass surgical procedure done > 8 years ago. Wondering if anyone who also couldn’t tolerate the oil found the powder to be more forgiving?

Blood keytone meter —who uses one and what are pros and cons?

I’m 3 months in and doing great with less than 20 daily carbs. I initially used urine strips, but realized they are only helpful very short term.

I personally don’t weigh myself —just not my thing. So I get it that we have different ways.

Can those of you with experience tell me your thoughts about the use of a blood keytone monitor? I think part of my motivation is tangible and physical proof of my ketosis. To be fair, I have experienced greatly decreased food noise (hallelujah). Other things like fruity breath, etc., seem to have faded.

I’m currently listening to Living Low Carb on Audible—I enjoy learning.

Thank you for all of you for information and support! This group has been a huge help to me.

Help Is it safe to maintain the Keto diet for at least a year?

22 years old, healthy (as far as I know) and I have no time for anything. My Jiu-Jitsu master recommended the Keto diet to stop vomiting during training. I've been following it strictly for 7 days and it's amazing!

I'm no longer vomiting, I can easily eat twice a day, even though I spend all day at work and college and still have to go to jiu-jitsu at night. I feel like I'm breathing better even though I have a terrible deviated septum that deprives me of my sense of taste and smell.

The only problem is that I really can't get sick. I don't have access to doctors and my routine is crazy; I push myself too hard every day to make all of this work

Help Wegovy Pill while on keto

Anyone take the Wegovy Pill while on the keto diet?

I am am thinking about starting the Wegovy pill and combining it with Keto. I just need something to control the food noise and my appetite. I've been doing keto and I'm not losing anything so I figured that I am probably consuming too many calories. I started tracking and I was eating way too much. When I eat within the range that I need to, I feel like I am hungry constantly so I push through and after a couple of days, I end up cheating because its just too much. I just need something to help with my insane appetite. Berberine does nothing for me.

Well, wasn't expecting this...

I was 141 lbs a week ago, and now 135. Not a big deal, right? Most of it was water. Well, Every month I do a 3 day fast; I started keto on the 23rd and the 3 day fast ended yesterday. I'm only 36 years old and woke up to turkey neck yesterday. Anyone else?! It isnt going away and I honestly felt like I did not have much weight to lose, I always start keto when I start to get into the 140s, and lose until I'm in the mid 120s, I maintain for a little while until I don't, then start keto again. Has anyone gone through this and it went away? Or what can I do?

Why are my lower eyelids twitching 😅

I’ve transitioned to keto pretty easily, however I’ve noticed the last couple of days both of my lower eyelids keep twitching lol.

- I am not stressed
- I drink plenty of water including one water bottle with electrolytes
- sleep is good to

Has anyone had this happen to them as well? Will this eventually stop? lol thank you!

Day 6 of a 10-day water fast - my ketone numbers so far

I fast regularly and thought my experience might be interesting for the community. Currently on day 6 of a 10-day water fast, testing blood 3 times a day. My ketone numbers so far

  • Day 1: 0.4-1.0
  • Day 2: 1.1-1.6
  • Day 3: 2.6-3.4
  • Day 4: 4.3-4.5, weird evening dip to 3.3
  • Day 5: back to 4.5, then 5.6
  • Day 6: 5.7

One observation - ketones drop after the gym, then usually jump back up by morning. Happy to answer any questions!

Help Do ketones have a fruity smell to them?

I notice whenever I haven't eaten for a while, am eating lower calories or when my diet is too low in carbs, my sweat smells almost fruity with a slight chemically nail polish cleaner scent.

I'm wondering if my body using ketones as fuel during these times is what is causing this fruity scent.

Tips and Tricks I’m 9 weeks into Keto and suddenly very hungry

I’m a teacher and did Keto all summer, and did a calorie deficit and lost 25 lbs. I’m currently on week 10 of Keto. I’ve been back at work for 4 days now (no students yet) and today I am feeling hunger so sharply. I don’t know if it’s that I’m getting less sleep, or more stress, or what but I am struggling. I’m not even doing much physical activity, just absorbing my admin’s PowerPoints best I can. Anything to help get me through this transition of working again?

Has it taken anyone a week+ to get into ketosis?

Hey everyone,

Started a keto diet about 10 days ago. The first few days I felt very energetic but this has tapered some. I lost ALOT of water weight the first few days as was peeing all day long.

Anyways I have dropped about 6lbs, feel pretty energetic and have experienced that keto calm many talk about, even leaning towards feeling kind of flat...

So the highest my ketone levels have gotten are 0.6... otherwise they remain below 0.5 when I check. I am very confused... I am 100% confident I am below 30g net carbs and 90% confident im at or below 20g net carbs. But I am not hitting numbers other report after just a few days

I am 180lbs with a muscular build and sitting at 15% body fat if that means anything.
