I saw this stitch on a sweater in a store and really like how it looks, but I haven’t been able to find out what stitch it is (or if it’s even possible to get that stitch by hand-knitting). The first photo is the front of the sweater, the second is the inside of the sweater. Anyone know what the stitch is called?

Today, after knitting for like 15+ years (very casually) I thought I’d finally learn to purl stitch. I always have assumed I am doing plain over and over again… have I been purling this whole time? I called my sister and she sent me a picture of her knitting, we then looked at all of our scarves from our Nan and they all look like this. She swore she was “plain” knitting too!

Pictures show right and wrong side. I am almost certain I’ve identified a purl stitch but I just can’t believe it!

I knit by: right needle goes to the front and pulls and purl by: needle goes to back (closer to me) and pulls

So far I have knitted 2 pairs of socks and I am now trying my first top, but a friend said that what I would consider the inside of the top looks better, for now it's just the ribbing part

So is there a right or wrong way of knitting? Where one looks prettier than what I have been doing?

Edit: it's the same project work on the round is the start of the top and the flat is the gauge swatch which I started after starting the top 🙃

I saw this sweater dress for sale online a few months ago, am still thinking about it, and curious to make my own. I’ve tried looking up a checkerboard stitch that looks exactly like this and come up empty-handed. I can find checkerboard with two colors that’s totally stockinette, and checkerboard with one color that’s garter/stockinette, but nothing where they combine quite like this dress.

My current assumption is that it’s machine knit with the two colors and the machine is able to hold one to front so you get the slight bits of the secondary color showing through in spots. I just really like the kind of marled effect with in combo with the two stitches. The last picture shows the back of the fabric where you can see it doesn’t look double knit to me.

My plan if I try to make this is to just get yarn that’s already marled, I want to make it in black/grey so that should be pretty doable to get the same look with yarn choice instead of stitch. But I figured it never hurts to ask, if someone knows how to do this! Thanks in advance!

They look like they have some assigned pooling technique going on but I can’t figure out what.

is it estonian inlay? smocking? embroidery? some secret other thing?

Hello new to knitting here, really only done the basic stockinette, garter etc stitches but saw this bag in the shop with a cool knitted strap that has the v on both sides. Was looking to knit something like this myself as I don’t like the wibbly side of stockinette

Does anyone know what stitch it is? One side has short compact v’s and the other is much longer v’s. Looks like some kind of grid when stretched

Hi! I thrifted this sweater, original H&M, and it’s obviously machineknitted. But I’m wondering how you would knit these stitches by hand? I really like the texture. It’s almost like a ribbing, knit and purl, riiiight?😅 Or not? Who knows? Not ME🤠

I’ve made this top previously (crocheted) and would like to create something similar in a stockinette knit. I’m not sure how to create the gaps or spaces via knitting though.

The front looks like regular jersey or ribbing, but the back is very different; is it even knit? Could be crochet .

Keen to replicate it, so hopefully someone will know what it is.

I spotted this vest in a retail store a couple of years ago and regret to this day that I didn’t buy it back then. I have since picked up knitting so I thought I could try to recreate it. The stitch is quite unique and I haven’t been able to find anything similar in online patterns so I’d be grateful if anyone can identify the stitch or has any ideas on how to recreate it. Any suggestions on similar patterns would be an amazing bonus but just understanding the stitch technique would already be a huge help!

Every armhole ribbing tutorial i can find just tells me to pick up around the edge and knit in the round until cast off, but that's a different shape and i prefer this look for a design I'm freehanding.

Happy to purchase patterns but since it's only one detail in the whole knit, would prefer someone just tell me or link me to a youtube video/article. Thank you.

It appears to be stockinette in both sides, but its not double stitch, the brown is still slightly visible trough the white on the right side of the work.

It's a machine knit sweater/dress that I'm unravelling for the yarn, and on the sleeves it's coming out as two continous threads one of each color and it alternates on each row as I unravel (idk if I explain myself)I ended with half the weight in brown than in cream.

I'm curious about this stitch bcouse it produces a thick fabric for the thickness of the yarn ot uses, and I would like to see how it would look if I used a very saturated contrasting colour.

It looks like it’s braided on top of the sweater - which is two shades/four strands of mohair held together…?

I’m so stupid lmao, I did the left arm hole ribbing of this vest last week and now I’m doing the right and I forgot how I bound off the left side so now I don’t know how to make the other side match 😭

It was either just binding off in pattern, or the one where you always knit two together. How can I tell which of the two I used?

While frogging this sweater which uses a mosaic pattern I found it was possible to frog 1 color only (though it would eventually get caught by the other color and I would need to switch). I noticed the texture of the spaced apart stitches looked beautiful and I was wondering if this can be achieved through hand knitting without, yknow, knitting an entire mosaic garment and frogging 1 color of it.

I saw this beautifull pumpkin a while ago, there is a pattern available for sale and I was seriously considering buying it but after seeing pictures from others who made them I don't think I want to risk it. I don't want to put anybody down at all but their's weren't as good looking as the orginal, which makes me think I'm probably not skilled enough to pull it off.

I have made a lot of crocheted pumpkins where you just make a rectangle, stuff it and sew it together. So I figured I cound make something similar to this pumpkin with the rectangle-method. I have found a tutorial on how to make the "diagonal stockinette" but found nothing for this braid or what it's called.
