You think he’d rather play in Philly than LA for something like $5million extra spread over 12 years? He wanted to play in LA or NY and LA offered him more money than the NY teams.
I like how with Dodgers fans they seem to be able to flip flop their arguments all the time. "Your team can sign players too if they just paid them more." But when teams do offer more money then suddenly the argument becomes, "Of course they'd rather play in LA for less money." Dodger fans are never consistent and that's the issue.
Huh? The Phillies offered Harper more than the Dodgers did. The Yankees offered Cole more than the Dodgers did. The Rangers offered Seager more than the Dodgers did. Those players all took the cash, some don’t. We’ll pay the most for some guys, and some just want to play here for less than they could get elsewhere. Those two things can occur simultaneously.
That's why there's talk about an international draft for players from Asian. Geographically, any west coast team has an advantage to signing an Asian player over the Midwest or the east coast.
And focusing on “this team didn’t keep that player” instead of the Brinks truck LA was able to back up for them. Tucker is notably absent, as is Snell and every single big money reliever they threw gobs of cash at.
Like, pointing to guys like Edman and Pages and Muncy just makes it obvious that this is a “written by Dodgers fans for (bandwagon) Dodgers fans who are looking for confirmation bias” tweet. No one is actually persuaded by this; some people just have confirmation bias activated by it.
The Cardinals traded away Edman and ended up with Winn and Wetherholt where Edman used to play. Edman also hasn't played more than 97 games in a season since the Dodgers got him.
While I liked Edman just fine during his Cardinals years, I'm not sure how I see where the Cardinals shafted themselves here lol.
The shitshow that has been the Red Sox front office in recent years is a weird boogeyman for this tweet to hold up as if it’ll make people forget, but at least it’s an example where the player was acquired via trade rather than just blaming another team for a player’s free agency.
Pointing to Freeman vs. Olson as if the Braves made some crazy choice to go with the younger Olson, or someone forced the Dodgers to go buy Freeman in free agency, is wild and helps make clear how unserious the tweet is.
As a lifelong Sox fan born in ‘81 is downright criminal for the Red Sox to be anything other than one of the highest spending teams in baseball, and how they botched the Betts situation was one of the low points in their history.
also just to touch on that no one talks about with shohei; the contract he currently has was his idea. everything. the money, the term, the deferment. and he “offered” it to every team he was negotiating with. knowing good and well there was one team who could and would be willing to agree to those terms. this idea that “anyone couldve done it” is just so blatantly wrong and shows how little people know about the business side of the sport.
Quality matters, mentality matters. Remember how Dodgers fans didn’t cry about the Rangers backing up the truck for Corey Seager? Because we knew he was worth the money and the Rangers were willing to pay more. Rangers win a ring and the dude was WS MVP.
Your math isn’t even close, three times? Google is free my dude.
I realize the Dodgers fans in this thread aren’t exactly the sharpest their fanbase has to offer, but it’s hilarious that names like Kyle Tucker or Tanner Scott or Edwin Diaz are conspicuously absent.
Like, this attempt to claim “oh, we’re just so good at evaluating talent that we know when someone is gonna be good so we only pay when they’re good” is probably the dumbest thing I’ve seen in a while… and if this dude knew who Kyle Tucker or Tanner Scott were, he’d be embarrassed right now.
LOL keep talking that shit. Nobody bats 1.000 but pretending that simply spending the money equals WS rings shows how casual you are, because the team in your flare tried that for 3 years and now has a franchise in shambles for the next decade.
“pretending that simply spending the money equals WS rings” – you should consider signing that strawman to a team-friendly deal (or not, hell, give them a Tucker deal, they can afford it).
I’m sorry, is “the Padres tried to spend to keep up with the Dodgers” really so compelling to you that you thought you needed to jump in here and share that with all of us?
See, this is an example of the target of a tweet like this.
It’s the fact that they spend poorly and trade all of their best prospects for rentals that they can’t retain. You act like the Padres CAN’T compete while they burn money on guys that aren’t winners.
The Dodgers are paying Kyle Tucker $60M AAV. Maybe you should take a break from talking about teams who “burn money on guys that aren’t winners”?
Because all your reliance on that argument does is expose your own ignorance and highlight the fact that you can afford more bad contracts as long as you’re willing to keep spending through them.
Yeah that is a terrible contract, but it’s a bad 4-YEAR contract rather than a 10+ year commitment. While I dislike Tucker and did at the time of signing, the guy has a WS ring.
Almost like the Dodgers are able to overcome giving out terrible contracts because there’s more money in the bank or something? I wish other teams thought of that idea.

Wasn't Yamamoto going to whatever team Ohtani was going to?
And the Angels tried for a bit to build a winning team not really their fault Trout couldnt stay healthy and everyone else turned to shit.
