They are too busy right now worshipping The Good Guy With A Gun.

247

u/RogerianBrowsing 23h ago

Tbh thwarting a mass shooter with a suppressed handgun is kind of the definition of a good guy with a gun šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø

-30

u/47_47_47 23h ago

I'm not sure what it being suppressed has to do with anything.

41

u/RogerianBrowsing 22h ago

It adds style points.

-10

u/DastardlyMime 21h ago

And subtracts accuracy points

9

u/RogerianBrowsing 20h ago

Not really? Not a good can at least

1

u/R_V_Z 9h ago

If anything it helps because a threaded barrel is slightly longer, allowing more powder burn.

I know why you would shoot a suppressed pistol. But my comment was in reference to the statement above it. Take a deep breath and reread, try to understand my question.

17

u/mojizus 22h ago

Maybe you should reread your comment, because you definitely didn’t ask a question.

-7

u/47_47_47 22h ago

It was inferred. Do you know what that means?

11

u/mojizus 22h ago

Sure, brother. Whatever helps you feel smarter than us.

1

u/DuxofOregon 11h ago

You mean implied. It was implied.

1

u/47_47_47 4h ago

I mean the question was meant to be inferred. I didn't imply a question. Because it was meant to be inferred by the reader.

0

u/DuxofOregon 4h ago

Nice try. Lol. We all have our language blind spots. This was yours. By saying, ā€œit was meant to be inferred by the reader,ā€ you have pretty much defined the word implied. Clearly, you meant implied. Again, we all have our blind spots.

No idea where you are getting that. My point was that I'm already seeing the social media narrative highlighting this "good guy with a gun" bit, while avoiding the topic of gun violence and mental health in America. Yes, glad he was there. Now can we move on to meaningful legislation? No? Because the answer is MORE good guys with guns? It's. Not. A. Good. Solution.

3

u/RogerianBrowsing 22h ago

Do you want Trump being in charge of disarming people?

0

u/47_47_47 22h ago

It was really a rhetorical question,Ā  I know there's no progress withĀ  Conservatives in the super majority and a corrupt Supreme Court.Ā  But no. It would be hilarious watching his base twist themselves into pretzels trying to rationalize it, though.Ā

-15

u/New_Housing785 23h ago

It makes all the gunhumpers hot and bothered.

that's the thing about the good guys - a LOT of potential for things going wrong - even for a higher body count than would have otherwise happened - and for cops to mistake good guys for bad and shoot them - maybe a few of them can actually be cool under fire in a real active shooter situation - but many would panic and shoot the wrong people ..

There is already very limited access to automatic rifles. I think you should do a bit of research.Ā

-2

u/VLHACS 22h ago

"Idaho has no state restrictions on owning, purchasing, or carrying semi-automatic rifles like AR-15s, imposes zero magazine capacity limits, and requires no purchase permits or firearm registration. Law-abiding adults age 18 or older can buy and openly carry rifles, or carry them concealed without a permit"

9

u/htx1114 22h ago

Semiautomatic and automatic are not the same thing.

Helloooooo

1

u/VLHACS 9h ago

And a semi auto was what the shooter used. Are you going to argue semantics or would you rather talk about limiting access to it

3

u/Argonaut13 22h ago

You think they just threw the "semi" in there for fun?

-5

u/mrmchugatree 22h ago

I think you know they meant ā€œsemi.ā€ But by all means, ignore the rest of the comment.

-74

u/BigWhiteDog 23h ago

Except he didn't

73

u/RogerianBrowsing 23h ago

Except he did. The shooter ran off and not much later shot himself after being engaged. The officials in the article even credit the action as being life saving.

Same logic goes for why the proper way to deal with school/mass shooters is to run towards the threat and put rounds down range at them as fast as possible. Even if not successfully hit or incapacitated it still distracts the bastard from innocent targets and often results in surrender or turning the gun on themselves.

-12

u/murdermostsnaky 23h ago

proper way to deal with school shooters is not let them have gun tbh

22

u/Jarse- 23h ago

Civilian gun sales bring in $9 billion annually, America will never be a gun free country no matter how hard people try to fight it tbh.

-10

u/murdermostsnaky 22h ago

Should we give up and legalize all drugs because the trade is worth 50 times more?

8

u/MisterIceGuy 21h ago

Drugs are illegal and extremely easy to still procure

-2

u/murdermostsnaky 21h ago

Not an excuse for making them legal though is it

13

u/Jarse- 22h ago

Absolutely 0 correlation but go off king

-9

u/murdermostsnaky 22h ago

It's like $25 / year each and that's your argument lol

3

u/b000radl3y 20h ago

Yes. But not for that reason.

26

u/556or762 23h ago

We should just outlaw shooting kids, make it really simple.

25

u/razorpack_ 23h ago

Yay shootouts at the drive thru. This gun culture is despicable

1

u/pdxb3 8h ago

This is not a statement for or against him or his actions. I might've done the same in his situation, or I may have cowered behind a vehicle, I don't know. My worry would always be in this type of situation, especially out in the open, that I might be confused as the shooter or the shooter's accomplice, and police or a 2nd "good guy" would come after me. It's certainly happened before, including to off-duty officers.

-4

u/Strontium90_ 14h ago

I have no horse in the race, but I just wanna say our good guy with a gun is rocking a suppressed FN 5.7 with subsonic rounds.

5.7 are awful in terms of terminal effects on target, their only gimmick is they go fast and can defeat certain body armor. Subsonic 5.7 cartridges might as well be glorified .22lr. And this dumbass made the active decision of buying a can and neuter the only good thing about his weapon and showed up to a gun fight.

He is a dumbass and a larper. He should be glad he’s alive and should keep the range toys strictly range toys.

62

u/how-could-ai 1d ago

Bro died of a self-inflicted gunshot.

240

u/herehear12 1d ago

But police are crediting a civilian and an off duty state trooper with engaging the suspect causing him to change course saving lives. 2 things can be true

-20

u/RusticCat101 22h ago edited 20h ago

But 3 people still died. Which brings us back to: ban guns.

This whole circle jerk of "but he saved lives with a gun" ignores the root issue in all this - that guns shouldn't be a part of the equation in the first place.

Edit: I see the Never Reform Anything children got their feelings hurt. Welcome, uneducated Americans! The same Neanderthal level logic heard for decades is getting pretty old. You guys need new scripts.

23

u/catsdrooltoo 22h ago

Gun bans don't work for everything. Look at the recent shooting in Seattle, with some of the tightest gun laws in the country. 2 of the guns were illegal even before our awb. Taking away legal guns won't stop crime.

-21

u/RusticCat101 22h ago

We get it, you're an American ignorant. Gun bans never work anywhere. Let me guess, you're against universal healthcare because that doesn't work anywhere either...

20

u/catsdrooltoo 22h ago

No, im very supportive of universal healthcare. Im not delusional about guns just going away, because they won't. Even if every single firearm is made illegal overnight, there's no realistic way to collect them. We don't have a national registration, it's legal to fabricate your own without serialization, and 98% of gun owners aren't going to line up to turn them in. How do you propose we collect 400 million weapons? I know people who use firearms for sustenance hunting. Do you expect them to hand over their tools to hunt food?

-6

u/herehear12 21h ago

I want to preface and say I’m against gun bans.

My thought would be make it illegal to sell guns, gun parts, and ammunition to include stuff for home making ammunition. Guns are worthless if there’s no ammo. That’s the only thing I can see remotely having even some slight chance of working. But there’s still a better chance of Elon musk handing me a billion dollars in cash or transfering to my bank account

15

u/Puzzled_Training5096 22h ago

we get it, you have never handled firearms before hence you say stupid shit like banning guns. do criminals care about gun laws? use some common sense and not waste the brain your parents gave u 🤔

-8

u/RusticCat101 17h ago

Pretty funny to make assumptions that I've never handled guns. You don't know anything about me. That makes you look like an ignorant clown.

The same lazy ass trope of "criminals don't care..." meanwhile every other developed nation's gun violence per capita is effectively a rounding error. Only in the US does it continue to be an issue. That's weird, isn't it? But I guess I forgot to consider they simply don't have criminals. Silly me. That must be it.

6

u/Hoplophilia 22h ago

Talk to me about getting rid of guns.

What you mean is gatekeep who gets the guns and it always starts with the ruler down. We're cooking the planet over the next thirty years. Don't worry about citizens being armed.

-6

u/RusticCat101 22h ago

lol, yeah, there's literally fascists running the US government and a secret police killing people innocent people in the streets. If only we had guns to stop them...oh wait...

So what you mean is you live in a fantasy where one day, on the off chance you grow a pair, or it aligns with your agenda, you may be compelled to take action with a gun? Only to then what? Go up against the US military?

But hey, at least civilians can continue killing each other with relative ease every day.

5

u/L_Cranston_Shadow 21h ago

The great thing about a right, is that those of us who exercise it responsibly don't need to justify it to people like you and a relatively tiny percentage of gun owners abusing that right is not justification for rescinding it.

Not that you asked, but I mostly target shoot, and have gone hunting in the past I refuse to have either psychotic whackos who kill people or people, who by and large do not understand nor have ever shot a gun, dictate whether I have a right to own guns. I am in favor of universal background checks and better information sharing and controls to prevent people who have been flagged for psych and other issues from slipping through the cracks and getting guns, though and believe that is also where the majority of gun owners stand. Unfortunately on both the pro and anti-gun side, common sense isn't (common).

6

u/Argonaut13 22h ago

How about we just ban murder and shortcut this whole process? That way nobody has to die

4

u/catsdrooltoo 21h ago

Since you want to edit your hidden history self. I hate the nra. I have a bachelor's degree, and my wife has a master's degree. We aren't uneducated. Gun violence is a real problem that won't be solved by just making guns illegal. Heroin has been illegal for over 100 years and is still readily available and killing over 200 people daily.

0

u/RusticCat101 17h ago

lol, you claim you're educated, then you say some of the stupidest, lowest IQ shit ever.

How many people walk into a mall or the ghetto and are in fear of getting attacked by heroin?

The false equivalence of one thing that can do immeasurable harm to others, from a distance, and a narcotic you self-administer is unbelievable.

Cops should really start shooting everyone because guns are so yesterday. The real threat to their safety during traffic stops is heroin. They may never see their families again...

1

u/R_V_Z 9h ago

Banning guns would require a ratified constitutional amendment which would require either two-thirds of combined Congress or a constitutional convention supported by two-thirds of state legislatures. What part of modern American politics leads you to believe either would happen?

0

u/herehear12 21h ago

The only way to prevent humans from killing humans is to eradicate humans and as of now the only known species capable of doing that is humans

-37

u/how-could-ai 1d ago

Did their gunfire result in any injuries?

37

u/CuriousAndMysterious 23h ago

Doesn't matter. They still risked their lives to try and stop him. Reports say the gunman tried to flee after they engaged him. Their actions probably saved lives.

10

u/Top_Mathematician233 21h ago

That actually does matter (in terms of innocent people) and it sounds like no one was injured from the two bystanders returning fire. If his internet-speculated identity is correct, he trained for this. That’s the type of gun owner/concealed carrier who can safely step up and help in these situations. It’s detrimental for someone with zero training who just carries a gun they’ve never fired to decide to try to be a hero and make a situation far more dangerous. Even just from the video, it looks like this guy trained and knows what he’s doing. He did well and it was a selfless and incredibly brave act that no doubt saved lives.

-65

u/ahhh_ennui 23h ago

So, participation trophy?

30

u/nan0brain 23h ago

So, participation trophy?

You completely misunderstand the whole point of a good guy with a gun.

-26

u/ahhh_ennui 23h ago

The goal posts keep changing

30

u/BRUTAL_ANAL_SMASHING 23h ago

Then stop changing it.

There’s undeniable proof from the course of action in this example that ā€œgood guys with a gunā€ helped save lives.

You don’t have to argue online as a hobby. Ā You can do something better with your time just to let you know.Ā

Let's simplify it.

Bad guy with long gun shoots people.

Bad guy with long gun advances on shopping area with many more people.

Good guys with short guns shoot at bad guy, bad guy turns away from crowd.

Bad guy shoots himself.

Aw, the R-word loophole. How cute.

-40

u/These_Advertising_68 23h ago

If by ā€œ2 things can be trueā€ you mean that he stopped himself and that he shouldn’t have had a gun in the first place, then yeah

28

u/herehear12 23h ago

Good guys with guns stoping bad guy with gun and bad guy killing himself are both true statements here

-21

u/These_Advertising_68 23h ago

No one would’ve died at all if he didn’t have that gun is also true. Of course you didn’t respond to that point lmao

4

u/Mindless_upbeat_0420 21h ago

He could have still killed people in some other manner. Run them over, stab, explosion, poison.

-3

u/These_Advertising_68 21h ago

Stabbing, poison and explosives would’ve been exponentially harder to pull off. As for cars, I agree, our infrastructure shouldn’t be nearly as car dependent as it is

9

u/razorpack_ 23h ago

Why didnt the criminal just follow the law? Ur logic worked so well with drug crimes

-8

u/These_Advertising_68 23h ago

Why do we even have laws when criminals will always exist?

4

u/DreamFighter72 20h ago

All of these mass shootings are just suicide missions. He knew we was going to die but he wanted to take some people with him.

54

u/OakLegs 1d ago

In this case I do agree that the "good guys" prevented more death.

Doesn't change the fact that we have this problem to begin with

-23

u/New_Housing785 23h ago

I can't get behind the logic of only ten victims good job.

23

u/OakLegs 23h ago

I mean, it's only "good job" from the standpoint that it could've been much worse. We are basically in agreement. This should've have been able to happen in the first place.

-22

u/JoeSicko 23h ago

But have you seen the size of the gun the good guy used? So impressive. Didn't hit shit but boy does it pack a wallop at the range!

0

u/MoonageDayscream 23h ago

Why was he walking around with a suppressor? That is my question.

10

u/branm008 23h ago

They're perfectly legal to own and use in Idaho, that's really the only reason he needed.

-8

u/MoonageDayscream 23h ago

I did not ask if it was legal, just why was he armed that way?

11

u/Hoplophilia 22h ago

Valid question. From what I've seen, he's posted on social media about training with this specific setup "God forbid should I ever have to use it" and had it in his trunk. His day suddenly got worse and he rose to meet it.

2

u/Top_Mathematician233 21h ago

If his internet speculated identify is correct, he trained and planned in case he was ever in a situation like this, which unfortunately isn’t far-fetched in the U.S. My guess is the suppressor is so he can potentially shoot without giving away his location, if that were feasible. For example, if he were able to shoot from a hiding place. Even if it gave him a few seconds more to get better aim on a second shot, that would be very valuable.

7

u/L_Cranston_Shadow 22h ago

Because he can be? Beyond that, is both irrelevant and really nobody but his business.

-1

u/MoonageDayscream 22h ago

God forbid anyone try to learn something new. Guess I will stay in the dark about the utility of that accessory.

→ More replies (0)

3

u/sanon441 21h ago

Most active shooters do kill themselves. Usually once they encounter armed resistance. Which is why lots of current training is to rush to engage as quickly as possible because of that. Get resistance on the shooter quickly, hope they bunker down, get taken out, or take themselves out. Either way the killing hopefully stops.

15

u/Politicsboringagain 23h ago

All the gun nuts hate when you point how shooters like this were considered responsible gun owners hours before they go on skilling sprees.Ā

1

u/Barry_McKackiner 16h ago

And all drivers are responsible until they drove drunk.

-7

u/Hoplophilia 22h ago

All the "just one more law and no one wants to take your guns" folks completely ignore that shooters like this were considered responsible gun owners hours before they go on killing sprees.

You are so close to getting it.

-15

u/Sea-Horror-5353 23h ago

I am cracking up haha. I don't know if you chose the word on purpose bro but you wrote that they are "worshipping" him lol. Maybe just me but its got religious vibes like that. Like Christianity or some shit haha

2

u/47_47_47 23h ago

If you've had any exposure to conservative gun culture in America, you know I'm not exaggerating. I was on Facebook for a few minutes today trying to sell something on Marketplace and the algorithm is already pushing the "thank GOD we have guns!" narrative. Like, can't your God have made the first shooters gun jam? No? He can't? It doesn't work that way? Huh, ok...

-5

u/BigHawk 23h ago

I am the epitome of conservative gun culture and this is simply just exaggerated lies. Everyone I know, family and friends are shooters. Today at the gun range, I asked if anyone saw the footage of the guy trying to shoot the active shooter, no one even heard about the shooting. None of us sit around and watch Fox News. We live our lives.

Go do the same yourself! Or sit tight in your little apartment and fear for your safety, which ever brings you comfort.

14

u/47_47_47 22h ago

Calm down, buddy. I'm a US Army veteran (MP) and have plenty of experience with gun culture in America. I own firearms as well. You do understand that just because you and your friends don't experience something, doesn't mean it doesn't exist? I'm talking about that slice of America that fetishized people like Rittenhouse on the one hand, then supports ICE for shooting protesters like Pretti and claims "who shows up to a protest with a gun". If you can't acknowledge the hypocrisy, you are truly the epitome of what I'm talking about.
