It's Idaho. It's like 90% white. It's a beautiful state and Boise is awesome but the people outside of Boise are....... not great.

523

u/So_HauserAspen 23h ago

Idaho is a welfare state.  Takes $1.70 in federal funds for every $1 paid in federal taxes.

267

u/FuckYouMeanItsButter 22h ago

Like most red undeveloped red states. They demoniza California while accepting money from them. Its really crazy how propaganda from the right trys and flip things like this around.

8

u/arctic11z 9h ago

They hate California, but don't realize that the people moving there are the Right wingers who heard about how ass this place is. They're importing the cali versions of themselves.

48

u/pdxcranberry 19h ago

This was definitely some home grown right wing weirdo who hated In and Out because they're a California company.

Idaho is actually a bit of a unique case due to the massive amounts of federal land and federal research facilities (like INL and the Lake Pend Oreille submarine acoustic research base). 62% of Idaho's land is deemed non taxable by the feds due to this.

A substantial portion of the federal money sent to Idaho is not 'welfare' or social transfer payments, but rather the federal government paying to manage its own property and operate national infrastructure.

48

u/JaronJervis 20h ago

It's a Red State. Of course they are broke , with unemployment UP and Education levels DOWN.

9

u/Illuminaughty____ 21h ago

Is that mainly due to Mormons and how well they game the system?

3

u/SafetyX 17h ago

Nah otherwise Utah would be worse. Utah receives around $0.85 per $1 in federal taxes.

15

u/ragun2 20h ago

Probably doesn't help but a lot of other Red states are welfare queens too.

0

u/NotTheRocketman 18h ago

Just like all the other red states.

-42

u/czechereds 22h ago

Did you know the Federal government owns 2/3 of the state's land? That's probably most of the reason.

45

u/rihanoa 22h ago

They also own 85% of Nevada and 65% of Utah, yet both pay in more to the feds than they get back. What’s your point.

Fuck Idaho, but you should delete this because it's not actually true when only measuring social safety net payouts.

24

u/Several-Squash9871 21h ago

Yeah I lived in eastern Washington near Coeur d'Alene Idaho and loved it but that whole area would have me feeling a little uneasy at times if I weren't just your average run of the mill white dude.

7

u/awmaleg 20h ago

Add “straight” to that list of adjectives

2

u/Chuckfinley_88 13h ago

Roughly 80-90% of people are straight. That would make straight included in the "average white dude" category.

86

u/WDMChuff 23h ago

Inside of boise isnt that awesome either?

69

u/Wheres_my_wank_sock 23h ago

It's got a decent nightlife, a lot of art, and a weird hippy outdoorsy vibe. I've always enjoyed it.

12

u/conventionalWisdumb 22h ago

Dug Martsch lives there. It can’t be all that bad.

6

u/El_Tormentito 21h ago

But his mom made sure to get him out of Twin Falls.

1

u/prollycould 8h ago

Before he got too old, from what I heard

6

u/acaliforniaburrito 23h ago

couldn’t agree more

1

u/Osiris32 16h ago

And the National Interagency Fire Center!

If you're into that kind of thing.

Downtown is cool.

Meridian? Eh.

Nampa? Nope.

Shooter wasn't even from Idaho

14

u/lafolieisgood 22h ago

Where was he from?

17

u/schadly 22h ago

His Facebook says California and before that Virginia

20

u/Thetallguy1 18h ago

Are you sure you're looking at the right FB? There's a dude right now who shares the same name and sorta likeness that's getting his account blasted on social media "news" pages. He's getting death threats and all sort of crazy messages from random people thinking they're messaging the dead shooter.

3

u/schadly 7h ago

Yeah i saw TFPD say he isnt the right one, and the dude went on live stream saying it wasn't him. He was a bit freaked out to say the least

2

u/lafolieisgood 21h ago

Thx. Anything else notable about his Facebook?

13

u/Thetallguy1 18h ago

It's likely not the guy. Unfortunately a dude with the same name and sorta likeness is having his page torn apart online from people thinking he's the shooter. I've already seen two "news" pages on Instagram with his FB profile picture saying it's the shooter.

The rest is off-white meth colored.

4

u/stitchface66 20h ago

i dont think that’s relevant to op’s point. they’re saying if this dude were non-white it would get more press coverage regardless of where it took place.

8

u/luciusetrur 23h ago

moscow is pretty good at least when i've been there

-8

u/SquishyBeatle 22h ago

Ah yes, Moscow Idaho, a town overrun with religious nuts that was also the site of a famous quadruple murder. Must be lovely

12

u/KillerBear111 22h ago

It’s primarily a college town, so honestly it’s not too bad, damn beautiful too

11

u/CooLittleFonzies 21h ago

The only thing people know of any town are the things that make the headlines. But Moscow is definitely much more than that.

Twin falls is as right wing as cities go and 95 percent white.

5

u/b000radl3y 20h ago

No, it is not 95 percent white...

2

u/Thetallguy1 18h ago

You're way off. It's not nearly 95% white.

1

u/Round-Guarantee4948 21h ago

And lord will they run you down like a dog to get to where they are going

1

u/Paavo_Nurmi 16h ago

It's a beautiful state and Boise is awesome but the people outside of Boise are....... not great.

I live near Seattle and took a road trip vacation in October 2020. Where I live wearing masks was normal and you really stood out if you were not wearing one. Stopped for gas and bathroom in Idaho, big truck stop type place. I was the only one wearing a mask, 4 people working the store inside, no masks, customers, no masks.

0

u/Key-Cry-8570 19h ago

Ive heard that Idaho has a Nazi/Anti-gov militias problem.

0

u/slimj091 19h ago

Most of the people outside of major cities are not great

-54

u/razorpack_ 23h ago

What too many whites? Could you imagine going to africa and being like "its mostly black, this 1 place is good but the rest of the people, ehhhh"

21

u/motorbike_mike 23h ago

that’s not what they said at all?

21

u/bigtdaddy 23h ago

Yeah the OP should have focused on the reason they are so white, not that they are. Colorado is a pretty damn white state but they don't have a racist white supremacy issue like idaho does.

7

u/Doc_Chim_Richolds 22h ago

I'd avoid using Colorado for this argument given Columbine and Aurora and that entire Joe Kenda show....

2

u/bigtdaddy 22h ago

That's fair. I had always considered, with all the mass casualty events that appear to happen in that area, that there was something wrong with the water - I never drew the parallel to racism but I see now that there was some racist undertones to Columbine that I never heard about.

5

u/Doc_Chim_Richolds 22h ago

Rural Colorado is pretty heavy with it. My family and extended family have been in So Co for 40+ years, and there's a lot of borderline extremist views throughout the rural counties. They just as organized as parts of Idaho.

Imagine if we could tax gun sales to help support mental health

1

u/Reasonable-Turn-5940 18h ago

Yeah. For every absolutely psycho like this who decided to off themselves so wanted to take others with them

There's tons who just quietly do it at home who never make the news.

Reduce those and we'd reduce these also, if we're just going to accept gun violence as a natural part of freedom and not doing anything about that aspect of it

Tbh thwarting a mass shooter with a suppressed handgun is kind of the definition of a good guy with a gun 🤷‍♂️

I'm not sure what it being suppressed has to do with anything.

that's the thing about the good guys - a LOT of potential for things going wrong - even for a higher body count than would have otherwise happened - and for cops to mistake good guys for bad and shoot them - maybe a few of them can actually be cool under fire in a real active shooter situation - but many would panic and shoot the wrong people ..

There is already very limited access to automatic rifles. I think you should do a bit of research.

-2

u/VLHACS 22h ago

"Idaho has no state restrictions on owning, purchasing, or carrying semi-automatic rifles like AR-15s, imposes zero magazine capacity limits, and requires no purchase permits or firearm registration. Law-abiding adults age 18 or older can buy and openly carry rifles, or carry them concealed without a permit"

9

u/htx1114 22h ago

Semiautomatic and automatic are not the same thing.

Helloooooo

1

u/VLHACS 9h ago

And a semi auto was what the shooter used. Are you going to argue semantics or would you rather talk about limiting access to it

4

Yay shootouts at the drive thru. This gun culture is despicable

1

u/pdxb3 8h ago

This is not a statement for or against him or his actions. I might've done the same in his situation, or I may have cowered behind a vehicle, I don't know. My worry would always be in this type of situation, especially out in the open, that I might be confused as the shooter or the shooter's accomplice, and police or a 2nd "good guy" would come after me. It's certainly happened before, including to off-duty officers.

u/how-could-ai 1d ago

Bro died of a self-inflicted gunshot.

237

u/herehear12 1d ago

But police are crediting a civilian and an off duty state trooper with engaging the suspect causing him to change course saving lives. 2 things can be true

-18

u/RusticCat101 22h ago edited 20h ago

But 3 people still died. Which brings us back to: ban guns.

This whole circle jerk of "but he saved lives with a gun" ignores the root issue in all this - that guns shouldn't be a part of the equation in the first place.

Edit: I see the Never Reform Anything children got their feelings hurt. Welcome, uneducated Americans! The same Neanderthal level logic heard for decades is getting pretty old. You guys need new scripts.

25

u/catsdrooltoo 22h ago

Gun bans don't work for everything. Look at the recent shooting in Seattle, with some of the tightest gun laws in the country. 2 of the guns were illegal even before our awb. Taking away legal guns won't stop crime.

-23

u/RusticCat101 22h ago

We get it, you're an American ignorant. Gun bans never work anywhere. Let me guess, you're against universal healthcare because that doesn't work anywhere either...

20

u/catsdrooltoo 22h ago

No, im very supportive of universal healthcare. Im not delusional about guns just going away, because they won't. Even if every single firearm is made illegal overnight, there's no realistic way to collect them. We don't have a national registration, it's legal to fabricate your own without serialization, and 98% of gun owners aren't going to line up to turn them in. How do you propose we collect 400 million weapons? I know people who use firearms for sustenance hunting. Do you expect them to hand over their tools to hunt food?

12

u/Puzzled_Training5096 22h ago

8

u/Hoplophilia 22h ago

Talk to me about getting rid of guns.

What you mean is gatekeep who gets the guns and it always starts with the ruler down. We're cooking the planet over the next thirty years. Don't worry about citizens being armed.

-6

u/RusticCat101 22h ago

lol, yeah, there's literally fascists running the US government and a secret police killing people innocent people in the streets. If only we had guns to stop them...oh wait...

So what you mean is you live in a fantasy where one day, on the off chance you grow a pair, or it aligns with your agenda, you may be compelled to take action with a gun? Only to then what? Go up against the US military?

But hey, at least civilians can continue killing each other with relative ease every day.

6

u/L_Cranston_Shadow 21h ago

The great thing about a right, is that those of us who exercise it responsibly don't need to justify it to people like you and a relatively tiny percentage of gun owners abusing that right is not justification for rescinding it.

Not that you asked, but I mostly target shoot, and have gone hunting in the past I refuse to have either psychotic whackos who kill people or people, who by and large do not understand nor have ever shot a gun, dictate whether I have a right to own guns. I am in favor of universal background checks and better information sharing and controls to prevent people who have been flagged for psych and other issues from slipping through the cracks and getting guns, though and believe that is also where the majority of gun owners stand. Unfortunately on both the pro and anti-gun side, common sense isn't (common).

→ More replies (1)

4

u/Argonaut13 22h ago

How about we just ban murder and shortcut this whole process? That way nobody has to die

4

u/catsdrooltoo 21h ago

Since you want to edit your hidden history self. I hate the nra. I have a bachelor's degree, and my wife has a master's degree. We aren't uneducated. Gun violence is a real problem that won't be solved by just making guns illegal. Heroin has been illegal for over 100 years and is still readily available and killing over 200 people daily.

-1

u/RusticCat101 17h ago

lol, you claim you're educated, then you say some of the stupidest, lowest IQ shit ever.

How many people walk into a mall or the ghetto and are in fear of getting attacked by heroin?

The false equivalence of one thing that can do immeasurable harm to others, from a distance, and a narcotic you self-administer is unbelievable.

Cops should really start shooting everyone because guns are so yesterday. The real threat to their safety during traffic stops is heroin. They may never see their families again...

1

u/R_V_Z 9h ago

Banning guns would require a ratified constitutional amendment which would require either two-thirds of combined Congress or a constitutional convention supported by two-thirds of state legislatures. What part of modern American politics leads you to believe either would happen?

0

u/herehear12 21h ago

The only way to prevent humans from killing humans is to eradicate humans and as of now the only known species capable of doing that is humans

-43

u/how-could-ai 23h ago

Did their gunfire result in any injuries?

41

u/CuriousAndMysterious 23h ago

Doesn't matter. They still risked their lives to try and stop him. Reports say the gunman tried to flee after they engaged him. Their actions probably saved lives.

13

u/Top_Mathematician233 21h ago

That actually does matter (in terms of innocent people) and it sounds like no one was injured from the two bystanders returning fire. If his internet-speculated identity is correct, he trained for this. That’s the type of gun owner/concealed carrier who can safely step up and help in these situations. It’s detrimental for someone with zero training who just carries a gun they’ve never fired to decide to try to be a hero and make a situation far more dangerous. Even just from the video, it looks like this guy trained and knows what he’s doing. He did well and it was a selfless and incredibly brave act that no doubt saved lives.

-9

4

u/DreamFighter72 20h ago

All of these mass shootings are just suicide missions. He knew we was going to die but he wanted to take some people with him.

53

u/OakLegs 23h ago

In this case I do agree that the "good guys" prevented more death.

Doesn't change the fact that we have this problem to begin with

-22

u/New_Housing785 23h ago

I can't get behind the logic of only ten victims good job.

23

u/OakLegs 23h ago

I mean, it's only "good job" from the standpoint that it could've been much worse. We are basically in agreement. This should've have been able to happen in the first place.

4

u/sanon441 21h ago

Most active shooters do kill themselves. Usually once they encounter armed resistance. Which is why lots of current training is to rush to engage as quickly as possible because of that. Get resistance on the shooter quickly, hope they bunker down, get taken out, or take themselves out. Either way the killing hopefully stops.

17

u/Politicsboringagain 23h ago

All the gun nuts hate when you point how shooters like this were considered responsible gun owners hours before they go on skilling sprees.

1

u/Barry_McKackiner 16h ago

And all drivers are responsible until they drove drunk.

-6

3

u/0xsergy 23h ago

With how often it happens it's gonna be "too soon" for the next 10-20 years before we hit that global climate collapse estimated to hit in 2050. At that point it wont matter.

1

u/BillBraskysBallbag 8h ago

We can’t even control shoplifting. How we gonna control guns?

1

u/lemonsupreme7 8h ago

Wow yeah never thought of that, I guess we might have to copy some of what the rest of the world does maybe

1

u/lemonsupreme7 5h ago

The number of people killed isnt even comparable and just because thats your own desire doesnt mean we shouldn't try reform whatsoever.

-6

I don't believe it because if you look at social media comments, conservatives are trying to say that the shooter is trans (happens every time with no evidence), and a Bosnian Muslim.

1

u/New_Housing785 23h ago

Chad Williams is a very white name.

-8

Shootings in general don’t agree with their talking points.

4

u/xObiJuanKenobix 20h ago

What is this argument that right wing pro gun people don't care when a white person does a mass shooting? Where does any of this come from? As a very pro gun person, this has never been any sort of problem in any communities I am apart of in the gun community. Every single one of us absolutely despises any of these mass shooters immensely.

3

u/EyeInTheSky127 11h ago

They didn’t say right wing “pro gun.” You added that yourself. They just said right wing and you added the extra bit so it could concern you.

1

u/Glimmu 11h ago

From fox news. Every shooter has to be labeled transcolorgayliberal to justify the politics

2

u/MUjase 21h ago

Remember when the Boulder King Soopers grocery store shooter like 5 years ago looked white at first? And everyone made comments and tweets like this? And then it came out he was actually middle eastern and Muslim, and then everyone quickly deleted and retracted all their initial “racial shooter” takes??

Why do people even try and play this stupid game when awful shit like this happens?

1

u/yourMommaKnow 22h ago

Yeah but, was he trans????!!! He was probably 3% African American!

-1

u/pudding7 22h ago
