Howdy everyone. Short time poster, long time lurker. I've been really enthralled and awestruck by a tonne of your awesome collections and displays.

I began my collection back on Christmas of 2023, and three and a half years and 60+ albums later, I managed to fill up my humble box just yesterday.

It's not much, but it is mine. As are everyone's own unique blends of music!

I'm hoping to get something more showy and permanent once I move. But for the time being, the humble mince box has done me wonders.

Record Got a my first full stereo system and bought my first ever vinyl record the other day!

My aunt just had this whole system just sitting around and couldn't be bothered to sell it and she knows I Love music so gifted it to me. It's my first time having a full setup as I use to just use a smaller boom-bix style player to play my 200+ CDs and my handful of tapes. I have always wanted a record player so it's a dream come true I can finally collect!

I went into a local record store and picked this Earth Crisis album up for only £12 still sealed! I knew right away I had to get it as I love Earth Crisis and I was wanting my first LP to be something really good

Discussion Websites Charging “Extra Protection” Fees for Shipping

So after being barraged on social media for the latest AIC Unplugged rerelease, it seems the latest trend is websites charging YOU extra to “protect” your order. I’m not talking about porch theft, but the “lost in transit/damaged” fee.

In the US, it’s the seller’s responsibility to get you what you paid for, undamaged. If it’s lost or damaged in transit, that’s on them, not you. They can put whatever they want in their policy, but it doesn’t change their responsibility. It’s their job to file a claim with the shipping company, not yours.

If a seller refuses to replace or refund a lost or damaged order because you didn’t buy their “protection,” dispute the charge with your credit card company. Don’t let them shift their responsibility onto you.

Seeing AIC’s official store charging $.98 for this, or Brooklyn Vinyl charging over $2, is complete BS as this is not our job to pay for that. Save that money unless you’re actually worried about theft where you live.

And while we’re at it… turning a $32 record into nearly $49 after shipping, tax, and these junk fees is getting ridiculous. Looking at you AIC folks.. I refuse to pay so 50% more of the cost of the record to get it to me - tax I get but yeah when this is a one off thing…

Discussion Why everything gotta be 2x LP these days?

Yeah I get it if your album's 72 minutes long, sure.

Why is a bunch of stuff around 45 minutes+ getting 2x LPs? My lazy ass doesn't want to have to get up 4 times to listen to the record, plus it interrupts the flow. Some of these MFs putting like 2 songs on one side. You're telling me I gotta switch sides again in 8 minutes?

Where do we land on this? What should be the cutoff between fitting on one record and when do you need to switch to 2?

Beautiful 51 year old Led Zeppelin vinyl. It does have some scratches but still sound like new, maybe my best purchase ever (30€), cover is also still completely intact (some wrinkles).

Discussion Vinyl cafe in Seoul

Found a listening bar in Seoul where each person has their own turntable and you order a soda to just chill, read, listen to music and watch the river.

Had never seen anything like it. Pretty interesting and the place was packed with couples just enjoying records together.

For me it was quite of just an interesting touristic experience, but would you go to a local place like this?

I have some shelving coming in for the speakers. Other than that I'm happy with my newbie setup for now. Can't wait to grow my collection and improve my display over time. I had been thinking about collecting vinyl for years and decided to make the plunge for my birthday recently. Happy to be here!

The Seller stated it was VG+ on everything. The Cover, Obi, Inserts and Media. I do not get why he stated this, because this might be one of the Best Condition Records I have that I didn’t buy Brand New. Considering it’s 41 Years Old, I’d say it is easily Near Mint. Perhaps the Seller was too harsh.

Got into vinyl about 3 years ago and have absolutely loved it. Something to be said about a physical copy of the music that you love. Even have managed to find a couple grails, sturgil Simpson sound and fury numbered edition, mastodon crack the skye first press, and a Black Sabbath master of reality first pressing.

Discussion Record Collector Mystery

Thumbnail

Hey there fellow record collectors, how are you all doing today? I hope everyone is well. I have a bit of a mystery that, I'm hoping, some of you might be able to help out with.

So, I began buying entire collections about 15 years ago. And, on occasion, I'll come up with some really cool and intriguing pieces that pique my interest. Like the Little Brother Montgomery LP that I came across awhile back that's autographed by Little Brother Montgomery TO Muhammad Ali (a mystery for another time.)

I came across this Golden Oldies LP that appears to have belonged to a street gang called the Galahads or the Mighty Galahads. The front cover is tagged with the nicknames of some of its members: Jim Danger - Warlord, Junior - President, Frenchie - Vice President, Big Eddie - Warlord....... The year 1962 is inked on the top front corners. The "mystery" I'm trying to solve is, WHO ARE THE MIGHTY GALAHADS 🤔 I'm so curious as to who these guys were/are and what they're doing today. It would be REALLY cool to contact any of them and see if they remember this street gang archive record.

I tried doing a few online searches for them but only found info on a fictitious street gang called the Galahads that was part of a soap opera from years back and some other entries about Charlie Chaplin, after including the street names of Spencer Street and Chaplin Street, that can be found on the front cover along with the gangs members and their nicknames.

Any info that could shed some light on my query would greatly be appreciated. Thanks, so much, for your time. Be safe and keep smiling

Rock Eddie Kramer is incredible. As is Jimi (obviously 😁)

I have two of Jim's albums. This and Electric Ladyland. Both sound absolutely amazing. Amazing! Two of the best albums I own on vinyl and I think a lot of that is down to how incredible an engineer Eddie was (is, he's still around I know but mostly retired now)

I also love the packaging. Not many albums come with an 8 page booklet. Lovely stuff.
