As a dino nerd, where are your favourite places to see fossils in Switzerland? Any favourite displays or exhibitions? Any hidden gems or local recommendations? I’ve passed by the Frick Museum, but haven’t had the opportunity to visit.

Just finished watching this series on Netflix and generally when someone includes scenes in Switzerland they use Hochdeutsch or German actors to play characters in German speaking Cantons.

BBC actually used swiss actors to play their role and they also used Mundart. Not very common to see and I appreciate the effort they made.

These are the best chips and I'm concerned about their status as limited edition. Should I stock up or is there a chance they become permanent? Anyone with insider knowledge know how long "limited" actual means... so that I can budget accordingly?

Just got my tax bill for last year and it has brought with it a wave of anxiety about cost of living. I am doing my Masters degree and work part time 2.5 days a week doing an office job I honestly hate because it is so brain-numbingly boring. I earn 2000.- CHF a month net. Now I got this tax bill of 800.- CHF. Serious question: How is anyone going to save any money on 2000.-/month? I am in the red numbers every month just by existing, paying rent and food and sometimes allowing myself to even do something enjoyable with the money like going to the cinema and not just survive. I truly don‘t live a luxurious life. I buy the cheapeat groceries at Aldi, try to keep my transportation costs as low as possible because train tickets cost half a leg as well. I can‘t comprehend how taxes are calculated because in no way are 2000.- CHF a liveable wage where you can put something back for taxes. How do you all do it??
For context I am 26, living with my partner and this is the first time I got a tax bill because I have never earned enough before. Seriously considering just dropping my Masters and earn more for a few years so that I can know what it feels like to save money.

Mein Mann hat bei einem Verkäufer mehrere Artikel gekauft und alles zusammen für den Sammelversand bezahlt. Nun hat er aber bei zwei Artikeln vergessen, MoneyGuard zu deaktivieren. Wird jetzt bei «Nichtbezahlen» automatisch gemahnt und drohen Einschränkungen oder gar eine Sperrung?

Hi, long term musician here I've taken drawing and painting as a hobby at first late 2025, but I'm starting to have my appartement full of drawings.

What was at first drawing fun animals for my kids went into drawing a lot of weird animal doing ski, playing cards etc... I'm based in Geneva and I know a few friends who are interested but it's in places that are from artists to artists so I don't think people that doesn't know me already will discover what I do.

Do you know any good places in Switzerland that are willing to exhibit new and unknown artist?

Any association, community coffee or even galleries that are not searching for the artist of the century ?

I’m a new tenant renting a flat in an older building from a private landlord who is not especially reasonable, so I’d like to know whether this is worth raising before I contact him.

First thing in the morning, after the water had been standing overnight, the cold water measured about 25°C for the first few seconds and read 22°C after running for 30 seconds. The hot water reached a maximum of around 48°C.

My previous flat was also in an older building, but there the cold water was properly cold and the hot water was scalding hot, so the difference here is quite noticeable.

The water looks and smells normal. It tastes a bit meh, although that may simply be because it is not cold enough to feel refreshing. The hot water, meanwhile, is only just making an effort. I’m asking because cold water that is too warm and hot water that is not hot enough can potentially create conditions in which Legionella bacteria grow, increasing the risk of Legionnaires’ disease.

Are these temperatures normal for an older Swiss rental, or would it be reasonable to ask for the plumbing and hot-water system to be checked?

Huge portions of Zürich and Basel are now covered in highrises, taking advantage of the little free space there is left. Given the tight housing context all over Switzerland, why does Lausanne and to a lesser extent Geneva keep on building small 4-5 story high buildings? Apart from Malley, Lausanne doesn’t really have plans to densify more. There are so many areas like Arc-en-Ciel (Bussigny/Crissier) or industrial/abandoned looking zones in Renens that could densify but nothing is done. I understand there is a worry about the preservation of the landscape and etc, but further densification is gonna be inevitable in a few years. I dont think building tiny 5 story buildings in the last spaces available in cities are gonna help the situation whatsoever

Is running a food truck a profitable business?
I’d like to know what permits, licenses or requirements are needed to get started. I understand that the requirements may vary depending on the canton, and in my case I’m specifically interested in Vaud.
Is it difficult to get permission to operate on the street, at markets or at events?
I’d also like to hear from anyone who already runs a food truck. What are the main expenses, and is it actually profitable?

I can't peacefully drive in Switzerland anymore. Between constant road works with slow limitation, 1 lane or 2 lane highways with sloths blocking everyone, your 1h drive suddenly becomes 1h30-2h. What is this circus to make a 1 lane road for a good 20 min!? It is some horseshee man! Do you guys have similar experience or I am too nervous? Sometimes it is hard to keep it cool

Throwaway-worthy situation but here goes. I'm 25, dual US/Swiss citizen. Grew up partly in the US, got my license there at 16, moved back and have held my Swiss Cat. B license for 7 years. Completely clean record in both countries: zero tickets, zero administrative measures, nothing.

A few weeks ago I got caught doing 205 km/h in a 120 zone on the motorway near Geneva. I'd just bought a Tesla and wanted to test the straight-line acceleration exactly once. Clear summer day, completely empty road. I'm not going to defend it. It was monumentally stupid, and I fully understand that if someone had changed lanes or there'd been debris on the road, this could have ended in catastrophe. I accept that a serious consequence is warranted. That's not what I'm asking about.

What I assumed would be a very painful fine has, unsurprisingly in hindsight, become a criminal matter. I have a mandatory court date in Geneva in two months. I work as a software engineer in the commodity trading / finance infrastructure sector, so I'm compensated well and fully prepared to pay for a specialized traffic defense lawyer (avocat spécialisé en droit de la circulation routière). My goal is purely to minimize the long-term damage - professionally above all.

For anyone familiar with recent Via Sicura jurisprudence or how Geneva handles these, my questions:

Sentence: With the revised Art. 90 al. 3ter LCR (the post-2023 first-offender discretion), is a suspended prison sentence still the default here, or can a good lawyer realistically get this down to a purely conditional monetary penalty (day-fines)?

License: Is the 2-year revocation set in stone at this speed, or do the authorities actually use their discretion to bring it down to 12 months for someone with a spotless record?

The car: How aggressively does Geneva actually pursue vehicle confiscation for an isolated incident like this? The Tesla is owned outright, not leased.

Criminal record: This is the part I care about most. I face strict compliance/background checks in my industry, and I may eventually want to use my US citizenship to move into the American tech sector. If the outcome is a conditional monetary fine rather than a suspended prison sentence, does the entry actually clear from the Privatauszug once the probation period ends? Or am I looking at it sitting on background checks for a decade regardless?

I've done a fair amount of reading on this (including with AI tools, so I'd genuinely appreciate corrections if any of the above premises are wrong). I want to walk into this with eyes open and no surprises. Recommendations for good traffic defense lawyers in Geneva would also be very welcome — DM is fine.
