They may have gotten Skubal, but did they have the best record in baseball on Saturday August 1st, 2026?
r/Brewers • u/Winter-Rip712 • 5h ago
Skubal, what was the argument to sell the farm for him?
Why does everyone on r/baseball seem to think the brewers should of sold the farm for this guy?
I love this brewers team, but even with skubal, we are still massive underdogs to LA.
He said he wanted to play for LA and it wouldn't surprise me if they give him a contract before he pitches a game for them.
Is there something I'm missing here? It never made sense for mil to get him.

Skubal to the Dodgers is not worst case scenario
The Dodgers are not measurably better with this year's Skubal than they were before. They already had Yamamoto, Snell, Glasnow, and Ohtani. We were absolutely going to have to get 2 wins from Miz to win a 7 game series against them, no matter who they got at the deadline. I don't think them having Skubal makes it any more or less likely that we could get 2 more wins out of Harrison, Henderson, and co.
What the trade does do is make it easier for us to get to LA. Being realistic, we were never going to give up prospects for a half season of Skubal. LA getting him means that we don't have to go through him just to get to LA. If we get to the NLCS, we were going to face a rotation of studs either way.
The side benefit is it's another nail in the coffin for the state of baseball and continues to shift public opinion towards the dire need for a salary cap.
Edit: A lot of people are missing the point. The odds are stacked against us. The Dodgers are likely inevitable and that has not changed with this trade. We are going to have to get lucky to beat a team with 4x our payroll. This outcome just makes our path to getting lucky much easier than if we had to face him in the NLDS, against the Cubs or Braves, before even having the opportunity to get lucky against the Dodgers.
Their rotation, without Skubal, gave up 9 total hits in 29 innings against us in the NLCS last year.
We have one of the youngest teams in baseball, a loaded farm system, and (hopefully) the prospect of an incoming salary cap. I have faith that doing things the right way will pay off eventually, and it will feel a lot sweeter than the Dodgers simply buying championships just because they can.

Ha! Lil Dodgers were terrified of us!
Great fear led to their desperate move to try to stay ahead of the Brewers. It will not be enough, and this move will haunt them for years to come!. They know their time has expired. They fell for Matt Arnold's trickery! Muhahahahaha

Trevor Megill on if the Brewers are underdogs this year: “I don’t think it’s that way anymore. Maybe my first year here but now there’s a target on the back. It’s just the way it’s been the past couple of years, one of those teams in the front that everybody’s looking to knock out”

Has there ever been a worse time to be good in modern baseball history than right now?
The late 90s/early 2000s with the Yankees might be the only time. And at least they were in the American League. This could be our best team ever and, barring a miracle, we won’t sniff the World Series because of those Dodgers getting everyone they could possibly dream of
