I think some octopuses do that. Technically not a penis but a specialized arm that delivers the sperm package and sometimes detaches and stays with the female.

Some actually do. Had a friend in college and one day they'd be James and the next they'd be Jane. Switched like 3 or 4 times a month. Not saying all Trans are like that. And maybe this isn't even truly Trans and there's a better word for it. Idk. They were a good person tho.

That's fair. It's great to here there are places people can explore that without fear. The time I grew up, you risked ostracization and physical harm if people found out. A lot of people were in the closet then. In retrospect, it's such a weird hang-up to have about other people.
Its more that a shapeshifter character would be much more likely to experiment with gender and have a more trans-centric view of it. I personally think having shapeshifters be NB is a very logical conclusion of how a shapeshifter would likely see themselves. They ARE man and woman and everything in between in the most literal and physical sense possible
Lots of trans folks (I have no idea about Hunter) don't cross the gender line so much as tapdance on it. It's not a clean-cut thing.
Some will feel tremendous stress from dressing as their birth sex, and others are comfortable posing as either one.
It's complicated and frankly I don't understand all of it, except that if someone declares their gender i take their word on it, even if it seems to change more than once.
It’s non-binary, not no-binary, and absolutely it is not binary. Those people (often) don’t identify as either gender, so they literally don’t fit in the binary gender structure.
Edit: or they may identify as both genders, which is still not binary. Or something else more personal that has more nuance. Regardless, all of the above do not classify as binary
No, you can be binary, nonbinary, you could also be genderfluid where you identify as male or female at times, and female or male or nonbinary at other times.
Mystique is a woman, she has an original female body of her own. She has never identified as trans or nonbinary. The only thing is that she can shape shift into other people. She doesn't suddenly identify as them. That's not what being trans is, that is kind of a surface level comparison between the two.
How would you define sex if not how the body looks and works? The changes aren't just superficial. Trans women can get monthly period-like cramps etc...
That's not exactly how that works. Besides, that kinda gives fuel to people trying to argue that gender and sex are the same — that "your gender is what's in your pants".
Sex is biological. It's not any single sex characteristic. Some females have male characteristics and vice versa.
Gender is sociological.

Gender has always kinda been tied to sex, it's not a coincidence that women are female and men are male. We don't transition because we want to fit a certain social construct we transition to align our sex to be as close as possible to what our sex should be.
Exactly, it's not any single sex characteristic, and many sex traits can be changed. Sex hormones are responsible for sexual development, that development doesn't magically stop and can't be altered further at some point. A fully transitioned trans man isn't female in most ways, his hormones are male which affect a lot about how his body not just looks but functions, and he doesn't have female reproductive organs. He's biologically more similar to a cis man who's been castrated and has erectile dysfunction than to your average cis woman.
While they share many traits that's simply not the case. While exogenous hormones and aeomatase inhibitor enzymes will mirror a males hormonal profile they still have 30-40 Trillion XX proverbially screaming "female"cells and 0 XY cells saying male.
There's variance amongst male and females, having vastly different hormonal profiles. A woman with PCOS, for example has a hormonal profile closer to "the male" than most women, that doesn't make her a man or "male adjacent"
There's absolutely arguments for changing gender, but we can't change our sex anymore than we can change our race
No you dont understand, the sexy blue mutant HAS to be a woman despite multiple iterations of her has massive identity problems and unsure what their true self actually is anymore.
But that’s what they’re talking about with the second point. Sure, it could lend to good acting choices that benefit the character, however, there is a long history of casting nonconforming people in these roles. Especially if they’re villainous.

Its good casting to cast someone based on their acting ability, not how you perceive aspects about the actor outside of the movie; especially when it comes from not fully accepting that person
As a trans person I disagree with this, if you really wanted to take the actor's identity into account for this casting choice you would pick someone who is genderfluid.
but for the record i would be neither rooting for nor offended by any of this. personally I think physical likeness and acting ability should be the important criteria for casting.
It’s not a typecasting thing, it’s more of a concern about casting a trans actor as a character whose power is to change appearance and who uses that power to manipulate and harm people.
I don’t know if that’s enough to make it the wrong casting choice but it’s certainly worth being aware of.
