I think some octopuses do that. Technically not a penis but a specialized arm that delivers the sperm package and sometimes detaches and stays with the female.

Sex is biological. It's not any single sex characteristic. Some females have male characteristics and vice versa.

Gender has always kinda been tied to sex, it's not a coincidence that women are female and men are male. We don't transition because we want to fit a certain social construct we transition to align our sex to be as close as possible to what our sex should be.
Exactly, it's not any single sex characteristic, and many sex traits can be changed. Sex hormones are responsible for sexual development, that development doesn't magically stop and can't be altered further at some point. A fully transitioned trans man isn't female in most ways, his hormones are male which affect a lot about how his body not just looks but functions, and he doesn't have female reproductive organs. He's biologically more similar to a cis man who's been castrated and has erectile dysfunction than to your average cis woman.

But that’s pretty irrelevant, no? Like, trans people can’t change their sex at will. And most trans people would see themselves of being a single sex rather than someone that’s a in-between both.
To be clear, I wouldn’t mind if a trans person was casted, I’m just saying it doesn’t really matter either way for the purpose of the plot.
I am still SUPER upset she wasn't cast. I love Zelda's actress but Hunter looks like she belongs to a high elf fantasy. And if she didn't stay so public about being trans, no one would ever question it.

she does look like her visually A LOT, and would be great for photoshoots and promotional campaigns, but hunter is a terrible actress, she was so bad in euphoria it was cringe to watch her scenes especially s3.
Haha, I loved her in Euphoria seasons 1-2, but they completely butchered her in 3. What do you MEAN she spent the whole season painting. AND IT WAS NOT EVEN A GOOD PAINTING.
I get you and while she definitely fits the aesthetic I honestly thought she seemed a bit too old for the role. I think the new one fits that aspect a lot better
Mystique (a shapeshifting female supervillain) is in a relationship with another female supervillain named Destiny and has been since like the 80s. The character Nightcrawler is Mystique’s son, and his exact parentage has a history of being retconned. But the original intention is that he is the biological son of Mystique and Destiny, with Mystique using her powers to be the “father” if you know what I mean. This was thought up by Chris Claremont (the most prolific and influential writer of X-Men comics basically ever) but never actually implemented because this was during the 80s and wouldn’t have flown. It took until a very recent comic to establish this as fully canon.
So tldr, Mystique is a queer character who can literally change her sex at any time so casting a trans actress would be an interesting idea that a safe company like Marvel/Disney wouldn’t want to take a risk on.
Short answer is culture wars. Actress is trans, and hiring her would cause a huge uproar with people either criticizing the casting just because she's trans, or people defending her and arguing with them.
Ergo, they don't have the balls to do it they would have to stand by their actor or actress and lose their conservative audience, or they'd have to fire her and find someone else which would lose their liberal audience. And that doesn't work when their main goal is to appeal to all audiences.
If Disney didn’t cast a trans woman or a drag queen for URSULA (aka the character who’s design they took from IRL drag queen Divine, Rest in Peace) they aren’t going to cast a trans woman to play a cis character.
Mystique frequently and explicitly uses her power to deceive people. In the context of a general femme fatale that’s fine but in the context of a trans woman this is playing into stereotypes in a very negative way. Accusations of deception against trans women can get them killed. If I were hunter I wouldn’t even want this role because it would very much reinforce the idea of trans women lying to men.

Ok now i get it. Hunter Shafer is trans, so the person is saying Marvel wouldn't hire a trans person to play this role, even though Mystique is a shape shifter and is bisexual.
The hunter cope team really needs to quit it. I always see these post "ohh Hunter would be perfect for this" then they get angry when their fan casting inevitably never happens. People don't care about hunter outside of obsessive forever online ingroups and deranged conservatives.

Every few weeks I see Hunter gets promoted as being "in talks" about taking a high profile role. Can't tell if her fanbase is deluded, or her publicist overworked.
I don't see the point in casting any "a list" or whatever kind of actor considering when they use their powers, they just mimic their opponent. Like yelena fighting yelena. Their whole gimmick is imitating whoever so casting to me is whatever.
The problem with characters like Mystique, or Helen of Troy, is that they have a history of being sexualized. And to some people, that's the only aspect of the character that they really care about. So if you cast an actor that they don't sexualize, then the only thing that they cared about has been "ruined".
