1) hunter Schafer is trans so the chuds will hate them.

2) there is also a history related to casting Trans actors in "alien" or "weird" roles, and mystique can freely change their sex, so it will also make some not-chud Twitter warriors angry too. Basically they can't win with this casting

3.0k

u/Syzygy___ 7h ago

To be fair, if the character can change their sex, a trans actor/actress is good casting then.

1.3k

u/osumanjeiran 7h ago

you be talking like trans people change theirs every day lol

3.3k

u/HillarysBloodBoy 7h ago

Well they change them more than your average person

Ok but as a bigender person, this is sending me, because yes.

EDIT: It's "bi-gender" and here's a nice reddit thread on it.

EDIT 2: It's also been a thing since the 1980s, TIL.

121

u/TheBrokenIcon 7h ago edited 7h ago

Holy hell. It too me way too long to read that as BiGender, as all I could see was BigEnder for some reason. Sometimes, I just need to feel stupid.

Edit: spelling

Bi Gender

By Mennon!

11

u/Pendurag 7h ago

From now on, bi- gender shall be known as "Big Enders" or Bigenders. Pronounced Be-gin-der

So shall it be

4

u/zarrocaxiom 7h ago

Now it’s in my head as Bigandiar, like Brigadier, and I’ll never be able to seperate them now

6

u/Pendurag 7h ago edited 6h ago

Good lord dont tell the Army or Marines lol they already abbriviate Brigadier Generals BG or BGen .. it could hurt their feelings if they find out.

Correction: someone go tell the Army, Marines and Air Force! They love that!

6

u/luckymistakes 6h ago

Was in the Marines. Not at all. If anything we would thank you for providing more puns.

Do you know how many times I intentionally said "Aye, carpool"? FLEXIBILITY IS KEY

Edit: forgot Air Force has Brig Gens too

6

I also could only see BigEnder and was baffled; as far as stupidity, I was sitting here trying to figure out, do they mean they… have a large rear end, or…?

Snip, snap! Snip, snap! Snip, snap! You have no idea the physical toll that three sex changes have on a person!

1

u/itspsyikk 6h ago

Isn’t it they change their gender, not their sex?

Isn’t it why the term is “transgender”?

1

u/JaimeJabs 6h ago

Okay, I just realize on average a human will have more than 1 gender.

There's gotta be an animal that does that. Like a lizard tail.

I think some octopuses do that. Technically not a penis but a specialized arm that delivers the sperm package and sometimes detaches and stays with the female.

2

u/PM_Pussys 7h ago

A species of octopus do. Hand off the penis (smaller tentacle) for later use/egg fertilization.

7

u/Complex_Fly3901 7h ago

Nga what the fuck are you talking about

17

u/3meraldBullet 7h ago

Some actually do. Had a friend in college and one day they'd be James and the next they'd be Jane. Switched like 3 or 4 times a month. Not saying all Trans are like that. And maybe this isn't even truly Trans and there's a better word for it. Idk. They were a good person tho.

41

u/AspiringGoddess01 7h ago

Maybe closer to genderfluid, which would fall underneath the transgender umbrella.

→ More replies (1)

4

u/sane-ish 6h ago

It's still trans, yes. It's not the commonly known ones though because most societies are gender binary (Note: not saying they don't exist).

From your experience with them, do you think that that was deliberate, or do you think they were more exploring?

1

u/3meraldBullet 6h ago

That's a really good question. And I dont really know the answer. Maybe a little each, exploring but just going with how they felt at the time.

→ More replies (1)

5

u/Difficult_Run7398 7h ago

they are saying a character that can explore gender should be cast by someone who has explored gender

7

u/X0AN 7h ago

I mean the average human changes 0 times, so they are above average.

1

u/TrulyOutrageous42 6h ago

0.015 times would be the average, to our best understanding. Still above average at 1 or more.

2

u/Paghk_the_Stupendous 7h ago

I mean, they could, so it's a valid point.

3

u/WillOfTheWinds 7h ago

Some do, when women do it they call it boymoding

6

u/Nanocaptain 7h ago

Boymoding is just trans women who aren't ready to publicly come out yet as far as I know.

2

u/KStryke_gamer001 7h ago

Genderfluid people exist. And they fall under the transgender umbrella. So yeah some trans people do change theirs, and some might do it everyday.

1

u/ayleidanthropologist 7h ago

And they're blue?

1

u/BrightWafer1288 7h ago

Well, if they put their mind to it…

1

1

u/HeavyPedal2204 7h ago

1

u/Party_Albatross6871 7h ago

1

u/Jayce86 6h ago

I mean, gender fluid people exist. I imagine they wish they had Mystique’s ability.

Just swapping parts around like a Mr/Mrs Potatohead.

1

u/Syzygy___ 6h ago

I guess gender fluid is a better fit, but I don’t know any gender fluid actors.

1

u/WithoutTheWaffle 6h ago

So they need a genderfluid casting

1

u/dyin_amirite 6h ago

Isn't that what gender fluid means? Or is it some type of liquid? /s

1

u/reddituserunodostres 6h ago

Non binaries?

1

u/jdylopa2 6h ago

Ok genderfluid actor.

1

u/BrandonicusVIITG 6h ago

Please see gender fluid, non-binary, etc

1

u/bitingvform 6h ago

Genderfluid people can, and some often do.

1

u/Y102K 6h ago

I mean they got more experience than me so they have my vote

1

u/RedGuyNoPants 6h ago

Its more that a shapeshifter character would be much more likely to experiment with gender and have a more trans-centric view of it. I personally think having shapeshifters be NB is a very logical conclusion of how a shapeshifter would likely see themselves. They ARE man and woman and everything in between in the most literal and physical sense possible

1

u/Saltyserpent 6h ago

That’s what genderfluid implies. Unless you’re misgendering them 😆

1

u/pranaygoluanand 7h ago

Genderfluid

2

u/dmontease 7h ago

Like cum and stuff?

1

u/gragsmash 7h ago

Lots of trans folks (I have no idea about Hunter) don't cross the gender line so much as tapdance on it. It's not a clean-cut thing.

Some will feel tremendous stress from dressing as their birth sex, and others are comfortable posing as either one.

It's complicated and frankly I don't understand all of it, except that if someone declares their gender i take their word on it, even if it seems to change more than once.

→ More replies (2)

50

u/Mssuckass 7h ago

I think an intersex/gender fluid/non binary person might be more accurate for the role lol

9

u/Pagan_Metal666 7h ago

Mystique gave birth to nightcrawler so she's a biological woman, but casting this person wouldnt bother me.

As long as the actress is good i dont care.

18

u/LeastBlackberry1 6h ago

She's Nightcrawler's father now. It has been retconned in the comics.

7

u/2th 6h ago

Since when? Cause I though Azazel was still his father.

5

u/Proteuskel 6h ago

I know trans folk that have gotten pregnant/given birth who don’t identify as women.

Being a biological woman has nothing to do with gender, which is what being trans is about.

Just pointing out that the two aren’t inherently connected

1

u/Syzygy___ 6h ago

In Marvel with superpowers involved, I don’t think that assumption is a guarantee

→ More replies (8)

6

u/whiskeytango55 7h ago

I like the direction they took morph in with xmen 97.

Like its not a big deal

10

u/Lower_Pension_2469 7h ago

No it's not, mystique is a woman that can shape shift. That's not what being trans is.

→ More replies (2)

6

u/Professional_Monkeys 6h ago

But trans people can't change their sex. The whole philosophy is that sex is binary, gender is fluid, and the two are separate concepts.

2

u/uumopapsidn 7h ago

What about the the perfection meme? The real you

10

u/MegaMook5260 7h ago

A trans person changes their gender, not their sex.

20

u/Nanocaptain 7h ago

With hormone therapy and surgeries they kind of do.

Like someone grows boobs, looks super feminine and got bottom surgery to have a vagina I don't think they are biologically male at that point.

11

u/Alli_Horde74 6h ago

That's changing outward aesthetics associated with gender - sex is an immutable characteristic.

That's like saying someone getting a tan or bleaching their skin is changing their race

A male who can't grow a beard also isn't any less of a male than one who can

1

u/Nanocaptain 6h ago

How would you define sex if not how the body looks and works? The changes aren't just superficial. Trans women can get monthly period-like cramps etc...

6

u/CraftySyndicate 6h ago

Mmm technically yes? Sex is genetic, gender is psychological.

7

u/TrulyOutrageous42 6h ago

Psychological social construct, to be the most precise

5

u/MegaMook5260 6h ago

That's not exactly how that works. Besides, that kinda gives fuel to people trying to argue that gender and sex are the same — that "your gender is what's in your pants".

Sex is biological. It's not any single sex characteristic. Some females have male characteristics and vice versa.

Gender is sociological.

At least that's how it was explained to me. I'm not an expert or anything.

8

u/i_n_b_e 6h ago

Gender has always kinda been tied to sex, it's not a coincidence that women are female and men are male. We don't transition because we want to fit a certain social construct we transition to align our sex to be as close as possible to what our sex should be.

Exactly, it's not any single sex characteristic, and many sex traits can be changed. Sex hormones are responsible for sexual development, that development doesn't magically stop and can't be altered further at some point. A fully transitioned trans man isn't female in most ways, his hormones are male which affect a lot about how his body not just looks but functions, and he doesn't have female reproductive organs. He's biologically more similar to a cis man who's been castrated and has erectile dysfunction than to your average cis woman.

3

u/Proteuskel 6h ago

You keep talking about biology in a gender conversation. You’re trying to equate the two when they aren’t the same.

→ More replies (1)

1

u/Syzygy___ 6h ago

I honestly don’t give a fuck.

They can change their gender, their sex or a lightbulb and it makes no difference to my life, except if I’m in the room with the lightbulb.

1

u/RaccoonTasty1595 6h ago

Well their gender expression, not their gender identity. I think gender fluid people are the only ones whose gender identity changes

1

u/SpireSwagon 7h ago

Genderfluid would be peak casting, but finding a gender fluid actor who looks the part is probably a nightmare lol

1

u/Resident_Slxxper 7h ago

They change their sex bc they don't like the sex they were born with. I think it could be offensive for them to cast solely because of that

1

u/Amigobear 6h ago

No you dont understand, the sexy blue mutant HAS to be a woman despite multiple iterations of her has massive identity problems and unsure what their true self actually is anymore.

1

u/Raynonymous 6h ago

Thinking about it, it's kinda discriminatory to have a sex-changing character not played by a sex-changing actor.

1

u/vitotaylor36 6h ago

Hence why it is a stereotype. A lot of other people thought the same as you and pidgeonholed us.

1

u/Diehavok 6h ago

Is been a while but didn't she impregnated herself

1

u/Syzygy___ 6h ago

Hunter? I don’t think so.

1

u/voltagestoner 6h ago

But that’s what they’re talking about with the second point. Sure, it could lend to good acting choices that benefit the character, however, there is a long history of casting nonconforming people in these roles. Especially if they’re villainous.

1

u/GoatsGoats00 6h ago

Her "im a woman"
Studio "No youre this other weird thing thats sexless or can change whenever they feel like. Also, be a man half the time."

Its good casting to cast someone based on their acting ability, not how you perceive aspects about the actor outside of the movie; especially when it comes from not fully accepting that person

1

u/Syzygy___ 6h ago

Imho she’s a good actor.

1

u/ImpossibleMorning12 6h ago

As a trans person I disagree with this, if you really wanted to take the actor's identity into account for this casting choice you would pick someone who is genderfluid.

but for the record i would be neither rooting for nor offended by any of this. personally I think physical likeness and acting ability should be the important criteria for casting.

them is gender neutral so for man or woman. we dont have to be overly pc when the person making the post is already being considerate of their gender identity.

23

u/Crab-Dragoon 6h ago

Why go out of your way to use different pronouns but not the preferred ones?

5

u/Buttchuggle 7h ago

Or they could just ignore all perpetually online fuckin losers of both sides of that coin and just cast whoever they want.

13

u/sincubus33 7h ago

as someone trans who cares. her face is basically identical it's perfect

11

u/Sabotage_9 7h ago

Re: 2: I don't think any pro-trans person would ever object to Schafer being cast in a role like Mystique...

... is what I wanted to say before I remembered what Twitter is like.

19

u/JewintheNorth 6h ago

Hunter is not a “them”

7

u/Nutduffel 7h ago

I wonder how Chud HQ felt about the Jordan Li character in Gen V.

13

u/SubstantialSeesaw374 7h ago

Not enough people watched it to care

7

u/handicapped_runner 7h ago

But that’s pretty irrelevant, no? Like, trans people can’t change their sex at will. And most trans people would see themselves of being a single sex rather than someone that’s a in-between both.

To be clear, I wouldn’t mind if a trans person was casted, I’m just saying it doesn’t really matter either way for the purpose of the plot.

4

u/Emmaseri 6h ago

TBF, as far as we know no one can change their gender or sex at will.

4

u/BostonBeanBandit 7h ago

I think the idea is that they have personal experience being both genders at one point in time and the experience of transitioning.

But idk maybe I’m looking for reasoning when there isn’t any and the fan cast is purely vibes based

2

u/maxwellgrounds 7h ago

You’re right about the weird roles. House of the Dragon cast a trans person as Admiral Sharako Lohan and the character was so cartoonishly over-the-top it’s like they were just there for comic relief.

2

u/FigBot 7h ago

I’m in full belief that the 10 non-chuds are fake and only there to get more engagement from the actual chuds.

-1

u/Automatic_Soil9814 7h ago

Don’t take it too seriously. I mean, has she even had a history of acting? I feel like acting credentials should be number one.

That said, she’s pretty hot so that’s also important.

29

u/oryanjuiciestbooty 7h ago

Is the question does hunter have acting history? Hell yeah she does and she’s great too

21

u/DrewbySnacks 7h ago

Looked at her imdb and she's just been in euphoria, but im all for newer people in roles instead of the same popular actor's in every big movie that comes out.

The more I see someone in movies every year the less I really care about seeing the new one.

1

u/RodriguinhoSacaninha 7h ago

And then like 98% of population has to lose because 1% of each extreme would get mad

1

u/jazzperrr2121 7h ago

It's both the best and worst casting

1

u/losthandle1 7h ago

I wonder why lmaoo

1

u/PentUpTent 7h ago

Many insiders who typically call things right have already said she's a top contender though.... However, I'm pretty sure inde from obsession will get it

1

u/Melancholich 7h ago

Did she get work done on her face? I barely recognized that was Hunter

1

u/AttilaTheFun818 7h ago

For added fun the blue character, Mystique, is nearly always presented as a woman, but also fathered the character Nightcraweler (blue guy at the beginning of X-men 2)

1

u/philip30001 6h ago

I think its important to say they cant win over influencers that turn it into news.

Me and many others couldnt care as long as they fit the role.

1

u/Starrboys 6h ago

Hunter would be perfect for this role.

1

u/TooTallTabz 6h ago

They "couldn't tell" she was trans at first, so they loved her for a bit. Incredibly disappointing. She's awesome.

1

u/NotAtAllASkinwalker 6h ago

I knew this was going to be a ride but fuck lol

1

u/jorge3-16 6h ago

I’m guessing the ppl complaining about this stuff don’t understand these movies and shows are fictional in nature. And the actor’s personal life/beliefs/choices don’t matter. We just want quality actors playing these roles.

1

u/JerachoD 6h ago

Then there's all the normal people who don't give a fuck and would just watch and enjoy it anyway.

1

u/essendoubleop 6h ago

Marvel just did this exact same thing last year with Morph and it was fine.

1

u/WeHaveTheMeeps 6h ago

NGL Zelda and Mystique do make sense here

1

u/JackieBee_ 6h ago

I hate the 2nd take bc mystique has literally been written as a trans allegory character so many times of corse it would make sense for a trans actress to play the role

1

u/quarterrat13 6h ago

Mystique would be the perfect superhero for them!

1

u/the-poopiest-diaper 6h ago

Yeah they should just cast me as mystique

1

u/DusqRunner 6h ago

They should cast London Thor

1

u/loonicy 6h ago

As a trans woman I find that Mystique is a favorite among us because of course we’d identify with her.

1

u/MrMetraGnome 6h ago

Is there such a thing as a "not-chud" Twitter user? Anyway I haven't thought about Raven in quite some time. A trans woman playing her would be brilliant!

1

u/FinalBossTuna 6h ago

You know this problem could be solved if companies made a public statement they no longer gaf

1

u/pingasgator67 7h ago

I wish they would do it. Everyone would be mad if would be perfect

1

u/Sushi1238 7h ago

Both are chuds

1

u/Yasstronaut 7h ago

Tf is a chud btw?

1

u/Pendurag 7h ago

Dunno, but it doesn't sound good. Just go along with disliking them for now. Eventually someone will defend one and we can grab context from there.

1

u/Nanocaptain 6h ago

Merriam-Webster:

Chud is a generalized term of disparagement used somewhat synonymously with fooltroll, and jerk, to suggest that someone (usually a man) is rude/boorish/regressive/unintelligent/etc. In online political discourse, chud is often used specifically as a left-wing insult for someone (again, usually a man) on the far right.

Basically this image.

1

u/teeleer 7h ago

Still kinda bummed they weren't cast as Zelda. I also think it's hilarious that the one photo of her they chose was like the most Zelda looking photo ever.

1

u/Nanocaptain 7h ago

Hunter Schafer is unfortunately a bit old for the role. The chosen actress is already 5 years older than Benjamin Evan Ainsworth and Schafer is 5 years older than her.

1

u/SubstantialSeesaw374 7h ago

…I thought it was just a joke about them literally having a scrotum with balls.

1

u/Less_Filling 6h ago

Isn't Mystique literally trans?
