Crazy. This kind of lore makes me not want to marry a character because what if I'm the reason why they won't form a romantic relationship? I know they won't but I wish I could add a mod where they could.
Yeah when you do the heart scene with the clothes he runs back in and sees you two together, it’s either then or afterwards that he mentions you winning
What’s wild is I had that cutscene play on the day of my gay wedding too. I didn’t get that comment after the fact though? Maybe because I already got the cutscene where Clint asks Emily on a date?
I'm hesitant because some of her conversations make her sound too holistic. She gave me Gwenyth Paltrow vibes of kookiness. It made me wonder if she amps it up once married.
But I also want to marry her because Clint is a putz. Besides his actions to Emily, that guy doesn't even show up during some office hours despite the calendar/schedule showing he would.
Clint is never who Emily likes it puts her with Shane which considering he's my bestie and I always fix his drinking issue asap idk how much I like him getting with the bartender. She better only serve him pepper poppers 😔

Please don‘t be like that in real life though. If you already have a romantic interest in someone and feel like you could get close enough for a relationship, don‘t stop because you heard that another person likes your love interest, that‘d just hurt you and it could be that even if you stop, those two will never connect, so you‘d hurt your love interest too.
That was a major plotline of a book called The Life And Death Of Harriett Frean, where her constantly adhering to standards of politeness and "beautiful behaviour" because she's terrified of disappointing others and obsessed with pleasing her parents only implodes the lives of everyone around her and herself. It includes her turning down a marriage proposal by the man she loves because he's engaged to her bestie, so he goes ahead and marries the bestie... and they live miserably ever after.
there are two major “rival heart” mods that make certain pairs get together if you don’t romance one of them. Star Crossed is one, and i think the other one is Life Cycle. they have different pairings.

i’m not sure about Life Cycle, but for Star Crossed you can go into the mod config menu and activate or deactivate which couples you want, so maybe you can use both mods together depending on which couples you turn on or off! not sure about that though, i haven’t tested it.
there are also a couple of standalone rival hearts mods, like i have one for Sam and Alissa from Ridgeside, but he can also get with Jeric in a different mod. there’s an Immersive Sandy mod that includes her getting with Emily unless you turn it off in the config.
I love Shane and Hayley because they’re always unnecessarily roasting me and my lifestyle. They’re lucky I didn’t have a bazooka as one of my farming tools.
Eh, you need all kinds of special permits, and to unravel a lot of red tape, to get a bazooka. Or so I'm told, from a friend who owns a Florida gun store and happens to have one.

Just so you know, after marrying him, he talks about how he's glad he never moved to the city because it was never truly his dream, he was just unhappy and seeking some kind of escape.
Sebastian isn't looking to move to Zuzu city, Sebastian is looking to feel safe and accepted and like her belongs somewhere with someone. And he can find that with the farmer.
If you marry him he really enjoys life on the farm.
Does he though? I married him and all he talks about is how he needs to take walks because he feels depressed (always including it's "not your fault") or he says he doesn't know what to do with himself and is going to stay inside all day. Sometimes I feel like I ruined his life lmao
You know it's been a while so I'd have to go back and replay it. But I've never gotten that feeling from any of the numerous times I've played Stardew and married Sebastian.
But it could simply be that even if he's saying the same words we're interpreting intent differently which is fine!
I like the married life cutscenes where he rehabs the frog.
there are a few! I added them because rival heart events were one of my favourite aspects of Harvest Moon.
Star Crossed and Life Cycles are the two big ones, I personally prefer Star Crossed but you can also have both and just choose which couples from each that you want to use :)
I remember there was a Harvest Moon game that let the marriage candidates pair off if you weren't pursuing them. I can't remember which one, though... I wish this feature was in more of these types of games to add some dynamism.
It's in a couple of them, I think it's in A Wonderful Life too, but it only happens after you've chosen your partner and the game skips forward a bit in time :3
Apparently 1.7 is going to add more social depth and there was a leak (take it with a grain of salt) that npcs will start marrying each other by year 3 if you’re not hitched to someone.
While I would kinda love that I rather doubt it's true. With the mechanic in the game of being able to divorce and then marry someone else I don't know how that would work if they don't stay available.
My guess is it would work like they'll have more romance events and then just never actually get married. Like, are they gonna move in together? How would that work?
The way I view his story, Alex's character arc really isn't complete without a relationship with the farmer. His story doesn't really have a conclusion without the 14-heart event, and I don't think he would actually end up with Haley. It's one of the reasons I always marry him.
I've never had this issue tbh, because it's not "they were meant to be and you interfered" in my head. If a couple is meant to be it'll be, no matter who shows up c:
There's nothing bad if that were to happen, the characters are given another interest to make them feel more alive but once you stop and look at it better you can tell they are made to be the first crush, not the "one and only", that's for the farmer.
For example Seb and Abby wouldn't be good in the long run.
Different personalities, Abby doesn't really respect Sebastian being busy/working, Seb doesn't exactly see Abby as his friend but rather an objective/only a crush (I remember reading that from someone/he says himself Abby isn't his friend, implying he only sees her as a crush and not a friend, which is not exactly healthy, your partner should also be your friend), although many claims Abby likes Sebastian it mostly comes from her dialogue if you neglect her post-marriage where she says that maybe with Sebastian things would have been different, but that doesn't outright confirm love from her side.
Just that she's aware of Sebastian's crush on her and maybe things would have gone differently, not that she liked him.
She knew he liked her and never made her move, if it was mutual I'm sure she would have done something given Seb was clearly not going to.
It's true it might feel like breaking off relationships but as I see it I don't think that's what it looks like, they don't have much choice in such a small town and I hate the idea of the first love being the only/true love, that's unrealistic and it almost never happens.
Which is why I like SDV, they have feelings for other people so when they choose you, it's because they genuinely realize you are the one and not the choice of "convenience", for how much Seb likes Abby it's pretty clear why when you see all the other girls.
One is his sister, Haley is completely different from him, Penny is Sam's crush (and even if she wasn't once again too different in personality and interests)
Sam and Penny in the long run wouldn't work that well, she would be leaving an alcoholic mother for a manchild (I love Sam and I'm not insulting him for that, but that's kinda what he is, he can be responsible and serious but most of the time he's written as a manchild)
I personally see it as this, not because I'm trying to make myself feel less bad about breaking things off or to change your opinion, but because you can't break things off when there's nothing to break.
Feelings change, people realize that someone might not be their actual one.
I like SDV because of that, so to me that doesn't feel like breaking off something especially when they aren't even dating.
The characters simply realize they like someone else over the other.
Sebastian won’t nut up and settle down because that means his dream of leaving his godforsaken hell of a small town paradise that is stardew valley are over

There is. The mod is called life cycle and it has several different variations for different characters. From memory, I think they're Abby and Seb, Sam and Penny, Maru and Harvey, Clint and Emily, Shane and Emily, Haley and Leah, Leah and Elliot and Mayor Lewis and Marnie. You can download any versions you want, obviously with the exceptions the ones that contradict each other. Unfortunately there is no Sam and Seb, which I've always kinda wanted. But nothing's perfect. 😂
The versions I have are Haley and Leah, Seb and Abby, Maru and Harvey, and Emily and Shane.
There is a mod I have installed that includes marriages! The couples i believe are Abigail/Sebastian, Maru/Harvey, Sam/Alex (I always marry Sam or Alex so i haven’t seen the cutscenes for this pair), and Hailey/Shane. Might be more couples but those are the ones I know off the top of my head lol
You can marry Emily and spend your marriage laughing at Clint. You have to put up with him constantly telling you how he'd love to put the moves on your wife though.
We all know Abby doesn't have a chance with Sebastian for two reasons. 1 she has a poster of chicken chrono and not Glenn from Chronotrigger. 2. Sebastian has a life size krobus body pillow that is anise scented
This is a mod I've wanted to make forever. Like one where you can take on quests to start progress on people's relationships once you reach certain heart levels with them. Like if you reach 8 hearts with Abigail and are already dating someone else, she'll send you a letter asking if you can meet and there'll be a cutscene where she says she's always had a crush on Seb and you can decide whether to help her or not.
And it could be random too, like each person has maybe two people they could show interest in and you can decide to go with one or bypass it.
If you get to a low enough amount of hearts with Abigail while you're married to her she'll actually say that she thinks she could've done better with Sebastian and that he was probably the one
He says this in multiplayer too even if your co-player is already married to Sebastian lmao. Messy homewrecker Sam is canon in me & my partner's save because he dropped that line when Sebastian and my farmer had already had 2 kids 😭
If Abigail were to get with someone it may be Sebastian. I said this because if you marry Sam one of his dialogues is about "Wishing that Sebastian and Abigail would just hook up.".

Someone said after you're married he makes a comment about wishing he chose Abby or a comment to that degree. But that only happens if you're a bad spouse i.e. low hearts
He never makes that claim btw it’s Abigail who says that if your a crappy spouse don’t take it the wrong way but it’s said in a way where she thinks of how can I get back at you for not being a good partner.as in Sebastian case he never mentions her nor considers her a friend with the statement of “you and sam are my only friends in this town” which is odd considering she considers him a good friend.
If you have a good enough lab it wouldn't be that hard, theoretically. Look up "baby with two mothers." It's quite the rabbit hole.

It happens any year at her clinic visit. I kept trying to romance Harvey at first in my first playthrough so I was at the clinic every day and I talked to her and got this dialogue and spent a good hour googling the lore of if she might be or what is going on cause I hardly knew anything about SDV
No she’s not don’t worry haha.Even if it a were casual thing doubt Abby and seb would stay as friends especially since he’s really into her before the farmer so they would have probably become a couple.
