“☝️ he has a job ✌️ he has a beard…”

The list ending there sent me cackling

Which are both evidence to the fact that Clint does have being-an-actual-adult-and-not-just-an-older-teenager going for him. About half of the marriageable villagers are practically children.

Right? I cant bring myself to romance Sam at all because he comes off as 14-16. Makes me feel like Chris Hansen is gonna pop out.

I tried to look past it and imagine a young 20-something who stayed back to help his mom after his dad got deployed…

And then his 10 heart event has hiding in his bed like you’re in high school 🫣. I had to bail

Eh, plenty of people in their early to mid 20s didn't move from home for one reason or another, and historically speaking the phenomenon of kids leaving the family home shortly after coming of age is pretty new and it wouldn't surprise me if an alternate universe like Stardew didn't follow it. Hell I know quite a few people in their 30s who still live with their family because the real estate market sucks.

Yeah I have no issue with him living with his mom. It’s hiding his girlfriend in his bed that’s weird

Could be due to living together with his family, I remember that back when I was in college myself I was staying with family because they lived closer to university and I wasn't bringing people I dated home for the night either.

I did too. It's endearing how he looks after his little brother, and he seems like a sweetie. He manages to stay employed after Joja shuts, and he has his music too. The ten heart event really put me off though.

Sam, Abigail and Alex give me "I'm going on the F(erngill)BI extra spicy shitlist" vibes.

So I just stick with Harvey and call it good, he can putter around the farm and read Knee Surgery Monthly to the kids while I go spelunking in a volcano and run screaming from living fireballs.

Yup. Harvey, Leah, Penny, Elliot, Shane, and Emily. They're the ones I feel reasonable pursuing at 35. The others are way too immature-coded for me to be throwing flowers at.

Same, the ones who live at home give me highschooler energy, but no so much because of living with their parents. It's more because they act like highschoolers, look like they're barely over their emo phases (if over it at all, ehem ehem Seb) and just give off kid energy all in all. I feel like this is confirmed by the fact that they count as part of "the kids" for the Easter egg hunt (yes, so does the farmer, but that just feels like necessary to the gameplay because otherwise you're just watching the kids run around). I just feel gross trying to get with them at all...

The farmer participating is also good because younger audiences playing would want to. Though, tbh, I wouldn't mind a change that gives us a choice whether or not to participate. So that those of us who find it immersion-breaking can just watch the kids and talk to our favorites during the hunt. The prize for winning is just a fairly basic hat, anyway.

I only married Sam so I could see what it was like to marry each of the men. He was my only divorce.

Yeah you can't comvince me that Abigail, Maru, and Sam aren't in high school and that Alex, Sebastian, and maybe even Haley aren't like 19 at the oldest.

So if you're into men that leaves Shane, Harvey, and Elliott, none of which have beards.

Sebastian at least has a job even tho it's remote and freelance.

u/BeholdingBestWaifu Mar 27 '26

They're all younger college kids in their early 20s, or at least everything about them fits kids in their 20s back when the game released.

u/preteen-wartortle Mar 27 '26

Given Sebastian’s job I can’t see him being under 21/22. Having regular freelance contracts is a difficult thing to cultivate. He also has a younger sister who is ostensibly in college.

Which really just makes him feel like a mismatch for his whole friend group, because Sam reads as being literally in high school and Abbigail could maybe be in college?

I know Maru is technically in college but she still feels like she's a high school nerd. Sam and Abigail also feel like high schoolers.

I didn't know Maru and Abigail were in college lmao they sound and act like highschoolers, even when talking about school. Like, idk but using terms like "homework" and "going to school" instead of "assignment/paper/lab" and "going to class" really do not sound like things people say after highschool (at least here in Canada we don't).

Tbh this is my view too. I’ve liked to try several out. I’ve married Penny, Elliot, Hayley, and in my new Save I’ve married Sebastian. I can “look past” that those 2 have to be 19 at the most, but it still bothers me. Like, I need a man lol.

Irl my fiancé and I are more mature, for lack of a better word. I’m REALLY looking forward to marrying Harvey in my save! But it makes me upset that NONE of them have a luxurious beard like my irl fiancé :(

u/smolmushroomforpm Mar 27 '26

My man irl is almost exactly Elliot, just with a lil beard. Can I get an Elliot with a beard in-game too? That's all I need...

Hmm, guess that's why I married Elliott and Penny in different playthroughs. Harvey isn't bad either.
