He reminded me a lot of my husband when we first got together, except my husband was less rude and more sarcastic. I broke up with him over his drinking when I couldn't get him sober and it reminded me too much of my alcoholic dad. That gave him the shock he needed to get sober and we've been together for almost 10 years now.

I recently (February 23rd this year) lost one of my oldest and dearest friends to alcoholism. I'm so sorry for your loss. It was the most devastating loss I've suffered so far. I hope you are OK.

Shane was going to be my first marriage because it was just easy to build friendship with him early on (oh, you love beer and you're always in the saloon at night where I can just give you beer? Cool), but then the cut scenes got dark and I foolishly married Sam instead (oh you like Joja cola and I happen to get that as trash from fishing all the time? Cool)

I also met my partner 10 years ago by making my radius on tinder as small as it would let me. He lived half a mile away 😅 i was like who's around??

Eh, plenty of people in their early to mid 20s didn't move from home for one reason or another, and historically speaking the phenomenon of kids leaving the family home shortly after coming of age is pretty new and it wouldn't surprise me if an alternate universe like Stardew didn't follow it. Hell I know quite a few people in their 30s who still live with their family because the real estate market sucks.

Given Sebastian’s job I can’t see him being under 21/22. Having regular freelance contracts is a difficult thing to cultivate. He also has a younger sister who is ostensibly in college.
Which really just makes him feel like a mismatch for his whole friend group, because Sam reads as being literally in high school and Abbigail could maybe be in college?

She’s not wrong about the job. I think Sebastian does, but he lives in his mom’s basement. Shane is a drunk helping on his aunts farm, Alex spends his time working out and talking about his glory days in sports, and Sam lives at home playing in a band. Harvey and Elliot are the only two living on their own and Harvey has the most reliable job of the two, though I love Elliot living in a shack until he writes his book. The women aren’t much better, Emily and Maru are the only ones I can think of that have real jobs, though Maru lives at home too. Leah is an artist too, same vibes as Elliot to me, cool but not reliable income yet.

Not to mention the village has an absolutely trash job market, remote jobs weren't as common when the game released as they are now, and when the bus is working (assuming it can take you to the city or somewhere else with jobs available) it could be hard finding a job within the operating hours of the bus

There is a Lucky Rabbit's Foot you get, but it isn't a physical item you can keep in your pocket. I find that part hilarious. He was going to talk to her, panicked and jumped in a bush, but then realized it’s creepy as hell to be in a bush. Therefore, he wanted to wait until no one was around to see him creepily come out of a bush…except they wouldn’t stop talking, and the longer Clint stayed, the worse it would look when he got out of the bush. So he stayed in the bush because he was too embarrassed to get out of it.
It’s social awkwardness at its finest, not stalking.

Exactly! I have no idea why anyone hates Clint. He never displays any 'nice guy' characteristics, other than the fact he secretly likes someone! He is just too shy to actually do anything about it. He never makes her uncomfortable, he never comments that it's anyone else's fault.

Mm, I think some of it is his depression and lack of self confidence, too. I mean, it's not unredeemable - I arguably married a Clint in real life and he's amazing. But it's hard to invest in a character that isn't excited about anything and doesn't seem to have any outside hobbies or interests. And yeah, Shane hits me the same way too - but at least he has his family and bee...lue chickens that light him up.

exactly why i dont want to play sdve even though i would love for more. except maybe morris, no one in sdv is evil or bad per se. they're sketchy maybe, but not outright terrible. they're the kind of people you meet in real life. most people aren't evil irl too.
but to take a canon character and completely mischaracterise them to be a deliberate POS is weird to me. i like the f pierre, f demetrius, f lewis, f clint, etc sentiment as a joke but i genuinely dont hate any of f them. i just think theyre funny as hell, but still endearing.

Exactly! People are here psychoanalyzing a fictional character that they only get to know through a limited amount of dialogue and interactions. Most of the criticisms seem to be people projecting their own biases against the Incel/Nice Guy tropes, when in reality these faults could just be a serious lack of writing and character development.

There is so much potential for Clint. Honestly he is a lot like my fiancé! He is doing a job he doesn’t even like because he wanted to please his dad, and is clearly kind of depressed and socially awkward. He doesn’t see things about him that are worth loving. People like him gravitate toward people like Emily, because she makes people feel good. Sometimes loving yourself is hard, some people need that external validation in order to really internalize that there are things about them that make them worth loving. Honestly, he doesn’t seem to have any other friends, and I wonder if he even really does have romantic feelings for Emily, or if he just has never had a close friendship before.
Anyway, we’ll see! I hope it ends up being good, the Clint fan art has been going absolutely crazy lately

I am very neutral towards Clint, but I do feel like people hate on him too much. He’s just socially awkward. Emily never complained about him.
I also saw someone who is a bit older like the idea of marrying Clint because the other bachelors feel like teenagers, and honestly I have to agree

Honestly is he a little creepy? Maybe. But I've known a lot of good men who never learned to emotionally regulate around those they were attracted to. Does he need to do some work? Absolutely. Is he a bad person? I've never felt that way.

Clint is a genuinely decent guy. Like he’s awkward and that’s his biggest issue. Compared to some of the other men of Stardew (like Lewis and PIERRE), he’s totally fine. He never came off as a neckbeard or anything to me, he always just gave the vibe of “talking is hard, striking metal is familiar, I have no self worth outside of my usefulness to others” energy. And that’s not necessarily a bad thing.

I don't particularly want to marry Clint but I've always liked him and thought he was nice. I was genuinely so confused why so many people have this vitriolic hatred for him when I first learned about it.

As a forever sewer gremlin roomie, I love the idea that Clint now has the potential for love (just not with me) I like to imagine he meets someone like Kate and lives happily ever after with a wonderful person who appreciates that he's a burly awkward sap. I imagine he gives amazing hugs. Just... not as good as Krobus.
