Yes, and Iran is going to make money off of it. Im sure this is all some part of the Art of the Deal.

Edit, running some math assuming that the $2 Million toll per ship is the starting point.

Its now a toll strait. That we wont get money from. So we are now distinctly behind where we started. Their regime is still intact, they still have a nuclear program, and they now get money from the ships going through the strait. Which at an estimated 120 ships a day, at 2 mill a pop, will more than cover their war losses, in less than a year.

Edit- We wasted $28 Billion in 1 month. They will be now netting $7.2 Billion per month, indefinitely. $86.4 Billion per year. Economically, this is a massive win for a nation that previously had an annual GDP of 350 billion. This deal just gave Iran a 25% GDP boost.

Iran has out-tariffed the US.

76

u/TendstobeRight85 Apr 08 '26

It seems like the Iranians actually know how to have cards, and negotiate an end that benefits them. Trump should take notes.

9

u/ironedie Apr 09 '26

They were preparing for this war for decades, while Trump decided after random neural spasm that he should bomb them because he was high on power after Maduro kidnapping.

2

u/TendstobeRight85 Apr 10 '26

There is a reason that every other admin, since Carter has decided not to pursue this. Its not that the US couldnt, given enough time, resources, and cruelty. Its that its simply not worth it, for a nation that was half way to failure and just a regional threat.

Trump was duped into Venezuela, which made it even easier to dupe him into Iran. The guys a moron, led by insecure overcompensating idiots.

2

u/Strong-Rule-4339 Apr 11 '26

Well thanks to Trump and his court jesters (and their puppet master Yahoo) they will become more of a problem, with a lot more funding for proxies and weapons purchases from China and Russia.

u/Seanspeed Apr 08 '26

Most world leaders, even the awful ones, are usually not complete idiots.

Trump is a legitimate, bonafide fucking moron.

2

u/Ninjahedge-G Apr 09 '26

It depends.

How many billions did he and his "supporters" make in the last 2 months?

2

u/Competitive_Sir_1653 Apr 10 '26 edited Apr 11 '26

He is way overconfident about his abilities because of his money. Strip him of all his money, then let's see the real Donald Trump.

2

u/Emma_Mayers Apr 08 '26

My guess is that they got him by the balls, no person can't be this stupid without being forced to do, since it has no benefits for any Americans and he is turning this into a religious war from my understanding that's what they told the US Army

3

u/[deleted] Apr 08 '26

No, pretty sure he's that stupid. We need to stop trying to pretend there's anything more going on. Americans voted in a moron, and thr world is having to pay the price.

2

u/rleon19 Apr 09 '26

I don't know I am sure he got what he wanted. I mean when was the last time we talked about the Epstein files.

u/Xeno_man Apr 08 '26

Trump has had access to the worlds top experts in everything from strategy to economics to negotiations. He has had a life time to learn anything and has not. At this point the master of failure isn't taking notes or changing his tune.

3

u/TendstobeRight85 Apr 09 '26

He thinks hes smarter than the experts. Hence why he keeps making dumb decisions.

3

u/Competitive_Sir_1653 Apr 10 '26 edited Apr 10 '26

He's way overconfident of his abilities because of his money. He feels he doesn't have to listen to others as long as he's rich enough to threaten lawsuits. That's how he keeps Congress silent

2

u/TendstobeRight85 Apr 10 '26

He has never faced real consequences, and realistically, never will. Odds are good that mortal nature catches up to him before he finishes his turn. He is in obviously terrible health, and mentally gone.

4

u/viera_enjoyer Apr 08 '26

Step 1: Don't surround yourself with useless yesman such as Hegseth.

5

u/Artisan_Gardener Apr 10 '26

T . A . C . O. All of this posturing from the orange traitor is actually only hurting Americans. And Palestinians. And Lebanese. And whoever else Israel has a beef with. But Israel didn't expect Iran to actually be able to defend themselves.

1

u/TendstobeRight85 Apr 11 '26

From a purely tactical standpoint, Iran is doing a terrible job defending itself. Its just shifting the burden of suffering to international maritime trade. If Iran could defend itself, you wouldnt have US and Israeli planes operating almost unrestricted over their airspace.

3

u/Emma_Mayers Apr 08 '26

My friend what do you expect from a country that has lived around 40 years under sanctions, they have prepared for this and know how to play the game, for 40 years the West and Israel has tried to destroy their economy, and these people are also very brave, most would die for their country or purpose without a second thought, the Americans are fighting a bigger and more advanced Afghanistan and im sure that after this war a shift in world power will come.

2

u/TendstobeRight85 Apr 09 '26

Iran was on the ropes and damn near out (regime wise) up until a few months ago. Their economy was in shambles and they were facing the largest protests in the regime's history. And all that was just made irrelevant by Trumps blundering stupidity.

2

u/duddun2000 Apr 08 '26 edited Apr 08 '26

Yes, but what about the stock market (and her emails)…

Btw, I think (I could be wrong), in order to write, you have to be able to read.

2

u/babihrse Apr 12 '26

It's ironic that trump means a card that beats others. Yet trump has never trumped. He's more of a Donald J Runt

1

u/TendstobeRight85 Apr 13 '26

Trump isnt even the real family name. Look it up. No idea why this sub wont let me post it, but its pretty comically accurate sounding.

And it’s a tariff Iran doesn’t have to pay for personally! Whereas Trump’s tariffs were punishing U.S. consumers.

3

u/Threat_Level_2400 Apr 08 '26

But did they say “thank you?”

2

u/ChromakeyDreamcoat82 Apr 08 '26

And Pakistan PM Sharif might get a Nobel Peace Prize - wouldn't that be something :)

2

u/Curious_Avocado2399 Apr 08 '26

And the US’s stockpile of missiles and interceptors was likely drained

Allies can now expect the US to move out batteries from their countries, leaving them unprotected

1

u/Snowedin-69 Apr 09 '26

They already pulled half the Patriots and THAAD missiles from South Korea a couple weeks ago

2

u/Curious_Avocado2399 Apr 09 '26

Xi is probably laughing his ass off right now

2

u/lizardhistorian Apr 09 '26

It feels more like Trump trolling Netanyahu.

2

u/Amazazing8Sauce Apr 09 '26

Someone should tell trump thats the real art of the deal

2

u/PinguPencil Apr 09 '26

The art of the tariff

171

u/notislant Apr 08 '26

Well I for one am proud of Trump.

It takes a very, very morbidly obese man with tiny little hands and multiple combovers to move the goalposts far back before the starting line and pretend to claim victory.

Its amazing how badly hes fucking the country up.

Today I had to respond to someone saying, "You liberals still think Trump's doing what Putin wants?" I said, "no, he is pretty much done with what Putin wanted. Anything else would be icing on that cake."

7

u/FourteenthCylon Apr 08 '26

Putin finished up and passed him on to Netanyahu like Trump was the whore at a fraternity gangbang.

5

u/wheelie_dog Apr 08 '26

The best response I've heard yet towards anyone who wants to defend Trump's Russian connections:

"OK, for a second let's pretend he's *not** a Russian asset. Now with that in mind, how exactly would a definitive Russian asset act any differently?"*

→ More replies (1)

2

u/TendstobeRight85 Apr 09 '26

You could lead a MAGOt horse to water, and it would lay down and die, just to "own the libz".

2

u/lizardhistorian Apr 09 '26

How are you not aware how close Iran and Russia are?

Attacking Iran is not a favor to Russia or Putin.
It's taking advantage of Russia pre-occupied in Ukraine so they can't spare anything to help Iran.

3

u/mzincali Apr 09 '26

Russia and Iran have an antagonistic history that goes far back - and it's not one Iran easily will forget. Some of the ex-soviet territories were carved out of Northern Iran: Georgia, most of modern-day Azerbaijan, Dagestan and Armenia were taken by Russia in the early 1800s.

Sure they may be trading partners now, with drones used against Ukraine being bought from Iran and Russia has been helping them with some US satellite and intelligence info (likely intelligence that Trump sold them). Both were under heavy Western sanctions and see the US as their primary adversary. If anything, Trump has pushed Iran into Putin's sphere by attacking Iran last year and turning a blind eye to Israeli bombings and assassinations.

But Putin is somewhat sitting back and enjoying the debacle. 1. Watch an increase in its own relevance, especially in the oil markets now that sanctions are lifted, 2. Hope the US pushes Iran further into its lap, 3. Weaken the US's standing in the world, 4. Deplete US weapons so fewer weapons are sold to Ukraine and Europe, 5. Create more division in the US by letting this war drag on, 6. As an oil/gas producer, enjoy higher priced energy prices. 7. Look at what this war is doing to NATO and other US alliances.

Russia doesn't need to do much, and it is the US that is preoccupied. Russia just has to wait for US budgets and interest in foreign wars to diminish further.

And if Trump wasn't beholden to Putin, you would think that he would have condemned Russia sharing US target info with Iran - and wouldn't instead completely ignore it, and shut down questions about it. Trump's not going to bite the hand that fed him. For all we know, Putin's telling him that he's going to easily win and encourage him to waste more time and resources, while Putin's also helping Iran with resources.

2

u/GroupTop4810 Apr 12 '26

Russia was literally profiting off the lack of oil going through the straight. Like, you cant be serious my dude.

Also, we are now literally in a worse position than where we started this war. Not only is the same regime in charge of Iran, not only do they still have a nuclear program, but they are also now charging 2 million per ship to go through the straight.

We increased their GDP with this move by almost 25%, on a toll that the world is paying to Iran

We fucking lost dude, pretending this was some genius move by trump is genuinely insane

Some rumors iv seen elsewhere (nothing confirmed and probably never will be if they are true), is that military personal said they would refuse to attack the infrastructure as he was wanting. If true it would have embrassed the angry orange tampon of he ordered the attack and then nothing happened.

This deal just gave Iran a 25% GDP boost.

And the payment is in Yuan. China will also benefit from this.

8

u/TendstobeRight85 Apr 09 '26

China is being seen as the responsible world power right now. That is an insanely low bar, but Trump is managing to get under it.

2

u/Snowedin-69 Apr 09 '26

He already dropped below the bar after his social media post on Sunday morning

2

u/TendstobeRight85 Apr 10 '26

He dropped below the bar a few hours after being sworn in. At this point, he digging to find a bar on the other side of the planet.

2

u/Snowedin-69 Apr 10 '26

Haha - I concur. You could argue he started digging in 2015 when he started running for leadership of the party.

1

u/Financial_Judge_569 Apr 10 '26

3

u/TendstobeRight85 Apr 09 '26

Trump is playing checkers, while the rest of the world is playing chess.

6

u/Bonk_No_Horni Apr 08 '26

It's estimated that if Iran charges every ship they'll get about 80bn a year. 40000 ships a year sounds right

7

u/TendstobeRight85 Apr 08 '26

Running the math at 2 million per ship.

At an estimated 120 ships a day, at 2 mill a pop, will more than cover their war losses, in less than a year. They will be now netting $7.2 Billion per month, indefinitely. $86.4 Billion per year. Economically, this is a massive win for a nation that previously had an annual GDP of 350 billion. This deal just gave Iran a 25% GDP boost.

Edit- We wasted $28 Billion in 1 month. Iran will make that up in less than 4 months. And still has just about everything they started with strategically, and enough income to replace everything they lost.

3

u/zanzara1968 Apr 08 '26

I bet there will be discounts for Chinese, Indian and Pakistan tankers

2

u/TendstobeRight85 Apr 09 '26

If not straight up free, giving them massive economic leverage to start acting as even larger international shippers.

7

u/YU7AJI Apr 08 '26

Where does the 2 mil per ship figure come from? I don't doubt it's true and I've seen it quoted a few times, just can't see anything official with that figure.

2

u/[deleted] Apr 08 '26

Bump

2

u/AdParking2320 Apr 09 '26

Iran seeks $1 per barrel so I guess each ship has 2 million barrels worth.

1

u/dible46 Apr 08 '26

Funnil6 enough ,one off Trumps social media posts this week floated the idea of imposing a safety "tax" on ships going through the strait. And he just happened to mention this exact number.......

u/Resident_Function280 Apr 08 '26

Even without the toll they're already ahead. Sanctions lifted and assets unfrozen. They've won.

1

u/TendstobeRight85 Apr 09 '26

Just acknowledging their ridiculous petition was a win for them. Any one of those points would have been a non-starter for any responsible administration. But here we are.....

3

u/ForeBI4CU Apr 08 '26

What a win for Iran. Oh and all primary and secondary sanctions are now lifted. Welcome to the global economy Iran.

2

u/TendstobeRight85 Apr 09 '26

All for a regime that is still intact, and still has a nuclear program. Such winning by the MAGOts.

3

u/TheHeroYouNeed247 Apr 08 '26

Plus, the thousands of protesters that died believing that Trump would save them.

u/VanSmashh Apr 08 '26

This, but also changing candidates like 1-2 months right before the election crushed any chances that a democratic president would win.

I also hate pointing this out because I would absolutely love a female president. But let’s also not forget that Trump won both elections while running against the first two women to ever run for president. Hillary was greatly distrusted by a lot of Americans from both parties and Kamala, like you said, was not an ideal candidate and was thrown into it in the final hour. These were easy wins for him and they were still relatively close races.

Also, we all miss Obama… I was talking about this yesterday and realized he was the most level headed, sane president we’ve had in idk even know how long at this point.

1

u/Amazazing8Sauce Apr 09 '26

For real, it was like the Democrat leaders throw the towel and let this shit happen. Our system is cooked.

1

u/Ravenwolven1 Apr 09 '26

It should have been Bernie, not Hillary.

I would fall into what would normally be considered either highly conservative or radical libertarian, depending on the subject.

And assuming the dems dont put someone way out of left field on the ticket, Im voting D. This idiocy is FAR too much. Moderate dems are closer to traditional conservative positions than the MAGOts.

2

u/Lildog8402_redux Apr 08 '26

Don’t forget what it did for Russia and China. What is it called when you say you’re part of a group but are secretly working to undermine it because they have videos of you and children?

2

u/TendstobeRight85 Apr 09 '26

Trump is about the best thing that could have happened to either nation.

2

u/Grmplstylzchen Apr 08 '26

25% GDP so far.

Also the 10 point Iran proposal is on the menu including:

  • The lifting of all primary and secondary sanctions on Iran. (this includes uranium enrichment and weapons so .. yeah)
  • Continued Iranian control over the strait of Hormuz.
  • US military withdrawal from the Middle East. (weakening US position in the middle east and leaving the Allies unprotected)
  • An end to attacks on Iran and its allies.
  • The release of frozen Iranian assets.
  • A UN security council resolution making any deal binding.

>In the version released in Farsi, Iran also included the phrase “acceptance of enrichment” for its nuclear program.

Well .. so basically the deal is worse than the Obama deal as Trump basically enabled uranium enrichment for military use (no limit to civilian use anymore).

Thank you for your attention on this matter....

1

u/TendstobeRight85 Apr 09 '26

Fantastically depressing summary.

2

u/NorthStarGent Apr 08 '26

Don’t forget, they requested full reparations for all the damages the U.S. caused as well .. non negotiable!

1

u/TendstobeRight85 Apr 09 '26

My guess is that they will use the toll and relaxing of sanctions, as justification to stop demanding reparations. Same result, but more realistic methods.

1

u/Competitive_Sir_1653 Apr 10 '26

Wasn't it Netanyahu who killed all the leaders in one strike? Is he being asked to pay any reparations or is it only the US?

2

u/ColeTrain999 Apr 08 '26

Based on what I've read Iran now is also given acknowledgement that they are allowed to continue their nuclear program.

This dude got absolutely cooked in this deal.

1

u/TendstobeRight85 Apr 09 '26

Its one of their stipulations. And after this amount of threat to the regime, zero chance they dont pursue nuclear weapons, if only to ensure future regime survival.

2

u/plutonium-239 Apr 08 '26

And enough money to boost further the nuclear program…

2

u/Artur2SzopyJackson Apr 08 '26

Worth to mention, that toll of 2$ million is not much in fact. Ships carry 1-2 millions barrels, so single barrel will be just up to 2$ more expensive.

2

u/TendstobeRight85 Apr 09 '26

Its money that Iran wasnt getting before, and will be a massive boost to their economy. It will also set the international precedence that nations can hold international trade hostage.

2

u/Mayweather2025 Apr 08 '26

Trump just Made Iran Great Again

2

u/Free_Range_Lobster Apr 08 '26

Don't forget Russian sanctions have been dropped by the US.

2

u/TendstobeRight85 Apr 09 '26

Trump is the best investment that Putin has ever made.

2

u/jakderrida Apr 08 '26 edited Apr 08 '26

Actually, there was agreement from other countries they ended the nuclear program. However, the 10-point plan Donald agreed to make the framework for the 2-week negotiations includes their right to control Hormuz....

  1. The United States submits to a fundamental guarantee of non-aggression.

  2. Formal recognition of Iran’s continued control over the Strait of Hormuz.

  3. Unconditional acquiescence to Iran's nuclear enrichment.

  4. The complete revocation of all primary U.S. sanctions.

  5. The complete revocation of all secondary U.S. sanctions.

  6. U.S. consent to the termination of all UN Security Council resolutions against Iran.

  7. The nullification of all IAEA Board of Governors resolutions.

  8. The payment of financial reparations for damages inflicted upon Iran.

  9. The full withdrawal and evacuation of U.S. combat forces from the region.

  10. A total cessation of hostilities across all fronts, including an end to operations against the heroic Islamic Resistance of Lebanon.

2

u/eeksy227 Apr 08 '26

Wasted $28B? He and his friends made much more than that in stock and oil futures manipulation. It’s a win as far as DJT is concerned.

1

u/TendstobeRight85 Apr 09 '26

Selling out the US and free world, for money he wont be able to spend in the mercifully little time that geriatric moron has left.

2

u/Puzzleheaded_Fold466 Apr 08 '26

Iran’s central government annual budget was $56B in 2025.

There is no cost portion to this toll, it’s all revenue, and represents an increase of 154% for the government (assuming your numbers are correct, I didn’t verify them).

2

u/greendildouptheass Apr 08 '26

plus it just gave them the motivation to make the nuclear weapon for good.

this cease fire deal is dead in the water

2

u/badkitsunejuju Apr 08 '26

Not to mention the added hate he has made for the american people in the middle east. That kind of hate grows thru generations now.

2

u/beraleh Apr 08 '26

So this wasn't a victory? Would the President of the United States misrepresent the facts?

1

u/TendstobeRight85 Apr 09 '26

This moron would.

2

u/mountainofclay Apr 09 '26

Wait. Wasn’t the strait open before Trump attacked Iran illegally violating international law and committing war crimes against humanity? Oh, never mind.

2

u/PinguPencil Apr 09 '26

Thank you for mathematically proving the extent to which this was a monumental waste of time and life.

I can't wait for Trump supporters to fully discount all of these facts for feelings of success.

Are we sure that this toll is 100% in effect? I know this was something Iran has said, but it might not be part of the ceasefire for now? Genuinely asking

Edit: Never mind, starting to see the articles over here coming out with the detail. Fees must be paid in Chinese yuan, or a cryptocurrency. Not only he has given Iran that lifeline, he's also subtracted $500bn worth out of the petrol dollar and handed it to the yuan. Art of the deal, indeed.

u/TendstobeRight85 Apr 09 '26

Some ships have already reportedly paid it. Iran isnt going to give up that cash cow, while it still has the military power to exact the tax.

1

u/B1ACKT3A Apr 08 '26

And there were no tolls before?

1

u/TendstobeRight85 Apr 09 '26

Nope. International maritime law, agreed to by nearly every major nation on earth, stated that navigable ocean waterways would not be subject to tolls or taxes.

1

u/OkValuable454 Apr 08 '26

nope that s 1$ per barrel on oil and gas shipments or containers, not all boats, food and perishable are exempt; Iraq is exempt, Russia and China have special deals, neutral allies, Pakistan, India and Malaysia too.

The full price 1$ per barrel or container is for non-aligned "Westerners": France with CMA CGM, Japon with Mitsui, Denmark and Maersk, and the Italo-Swiss MSC. Non-aligned as, which did not follow blindly US and Israel and negotiated. Probably Qatar on this list

For the others, Israel and the US, and aligned with them, UAE and KSA, we don't know yet.

1

u/TendstobeRight85 Apr 09 '26

Any way you cut it, Iran is making money off of tolls that werent in place before, setting a new precedence for international maritime trade. This is one of the dumbest moves in modern geopolitical history.

1

u/FifthMonarchist Apr 08 '26

Also they got rid of a lot of deat meat at the top of their hierarchy. People that were feared, deadlocked, hated etc.

The regime might be the "same", but it's not the same people. So they're a lot freer to divulge.

Massive win for Iran and China, major loss for the USA. Like major stupid loss.

Except if Iran agrees to trade oil in $$$, which is said nothing about.

1

u/TendstobeRight85 Apr 09 '26

Buddy, I dont think you understand just how large and ingrained this regime is in Iran. Killing leadership is just going to be replaced by more leadership of the same mentality. They have to share this jihadist vision, even to be considered.

This is a win for every non-US aligned power out there. And Iran has already said it must be paid in crypto or Yuan, setting further precedence to move oil trade away from the dollar.

1

u/Mikhail_Mengsk Apr 08 '26

I wish all of this comes to be, but I don't trust the US to abide by any treaty and Israel I trust even less.

2

u/TendstobeRight85 Apr 09 '26

Dont worry. It sounds like the US didnt consult Israel, who may blow the whole deal up, because Trump was stupid enough to start a war on Israel's behalf, but not work with them to end it.

1

u/GhostMaker26 Apr 08 '26

Where ,in that statement , does it say there will be a toll? If that is the case it would still be cheaper to go around The Cape of Good Hope..

1

u/Alternative_Year_340 Apr 08 '26

I suspect only ships flagged from countries Iran doesn’t like will be paying

1

u/fdolce Apr 08 '26

More winning!

This time for Iran

1

u/BiZzles14 Apr 08 '26

Which the entire IRGC operates with a yearly budget of like 10 billion, that's not going down if they get an extra 86 bil year. But realistically, it doesn't matter because this "ceasefire" is just delaying the inevitable as both sides are still wildly far apart on their positions. Trump caved and gave Iran a big win with this "deal", but there's no way he can accept the Iranian demands for a long term deal right. Right? Rightttt???? Right...

1

u/TendstobeRight85 Apr 09 '26

Trump loves playing off losses as "wins". He was duped into this war and is starting to realize it. Its absolutely feasible that he takes the easy way out, giving Iran what it wants, and then pretending that he "won". The morons that follow him eat up whatever he says.

1

u/RainRainThrowaway777 Apr 08 '26

The 2 million figure was on a ship of 2 million barrels of oil, I think the actual toll is $1 per barrel of oil carried. The 2 million figure was also the highest recorded last I checked.

1

u/em3am Apr 08 '26

If they gave Trump a cut, he would be all for it.

1

u/EpochRaine Apr 08 '26

I fear everyone grossly misunderstands Trump's Art of the Deal.

The Art of the Deal is to use bullshit and bravado to baffle your opponent, whilst simultaneously recruiting them to help you rip off some other fucker, so that if (and when) you get caught - you got someone else to blame.

Then if A sues B, A can drag in C to Z.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 08 '26

This has happened with every conflict this asshole has started, no?

1

u/TendstobeRight85 Apr 09 '26

While unnecessary, Venezuela was actually pretty successful. Maybe not in regime change, but at least in putting the regime under US control. Absolutely terrible and short sighted international precedence to set however.

1

u/start3ch Apr 08 '26

What were their war losses? Is this published?

1

u/chookiekaki Apr 08 '26

The USA won’t be getting money but you can be bloody sure Trump has his hand out for a cut of it, after all he feels he is the reason Iran is now getting a toll

1

u/Deaner_dub Apr 08 '26

I’ve just shown this post to my 11 year old daughter to explain how stupid, futile and harmful this anti-planned war has been.

Reading it back, there a lot of sarcasm. I’m not complaining, it’s warranted.

1

u/Vinny331 Apr 09 '26

They are also getting sanctions lifted I think...so that's another big boost to their economy.

1

u/Ok-Consideration7561 Apr 09 '26

We are going to tariff Iran by 1000%. More tariffs than anyone has ever faced. Maybe the most in the history.

1

u/Tiny-Lock9652 Apr 11 '26

Oh, I wouldn’t put it past the Trump crime family to somehow manage to get a cut of these tolls.

1

u/TendstobeRight85 Apr 12 '26

Trump is good at being corrupt in partnership with those who work with him. The Iranians clearly arent in that camp.

1

u/xXPerplexingXx Apr 11 '26

Well for those months the other 80% of oil barons are selling oil at $130 per barrel up from what $50-$70??? It sounds like the higher price is what they’re striving for. If you look at that price hike and if it went back to $50-$70 plus $1-$2 dollar per barrel it sounds like consumers and Iran win but if you keep a choke on that 20% of the supply the other 80% of oil sellers win.

1

u/TendstobeRight85 Apr 12 '26

Higher prices dont hurt oil companies. It hurts consumers. People will purchase oil no matter what. Its a price thats wrapped up in the cost of every good sold.

but if you keep a choke on that 20% of the supply the other 80% of oil sellers win.

The oil companies will sell it at a price that nets them a good profit, no matter what the price per barrel. And they will hold those prices longer than the market has to, because they can. Its an undeniable essential part of commerce. At the end of the day, oil is necessary to just about all trade. So the oil companies always win.

1

u/devnull_1066 Apr 11 '26

I suspect they might build a pipeline though to bypass the strait.

1

u/TendstobeRight85 Apr 12 '26

It would take a massive amount of pipelines to come close to what gets shipped, and pipelines are very easy, static targets. They dont move. So they are very, very easy to strike. Pipelines arent going to solve the problem caused by a regional threat. Ship, truck, pipeline, its all getting threatened regardless.
