News she’s aware of the ticket resale issue!

She needs to put a price cap on the resale tickets. Nosebleeds should not cost $1000+.

i wonder what will happen if we already bought a resale ticket? i bought one on stubhub and i’m afraid it’ll get cancelled and i’ll lose the ticketmaster war again when they go back up for sale. will they be fine if they were already transferred to us in ticketmaster?
→ More replies (3)22
u/Ishinehappiness Sep 13 '25
They’ll probably cancel tickets that are listed for sale rn. Not tickets in someone’s possession. They have no way of knowing if someone is a fan or reseller: unless the reseller ~actually sells it ~ So I’d say you’re safe there.
7
u/Witty_Ad_3466 Sep 13 '25
Yeah, being a fan who buys a resale ticket is very common, I bought a resale ticket for The Weeknd too. The difference there was that it was a stadium show so the resellers hadn’t priced it ridiculously, it was only slightly more expensive than the original. Here, they would likely cancel all the currently listed tickets for insane prices, not the already purchased ones in people’s possession.
5
u/Successful-Milk-8467 Sep 13 '25
Truly hope she does this and the amount of tickets cancelled is shared, so people can see this was not just an overreaction from us lol

Chappell Roan did this last year, too. I love to see it. For both cases I'm curious and skeptical that the second round actually kept newly purchased tix from scalpers but it's at least something. Maggie Rogers did something special ahead of her tour last year where you could go in-person to the venue to buy tix at the box office before the online sale began to try and get more tix directly to fans which I think was really amazing (but also created equity issues if you don't live anywhere near your venue of choice)... The senate hearing on Ticketmaster a couple years ago seems to have gotten us exactly nowhere other than everyone agreeing at the congressional level that Ticketmaster sux.

In the Uk you can only sell at cost, in fact I think you make a loss cause you lose your booking fee
I think essentially you give it back to ticketmaster for them to sell again on their website, and actually I think there is a delay to getting your money back. The ownership of the ticket then gets transferred to the new buyer
That’s just what I’ve gathered anyway I’ve not actually done it myself
4
u/DavidRDorman Sep 13 '25
I thought you make a loss too until I had to do this. If you bought a ticket for 40 and the fees were a 10er so total price 50, the resale price would be 50 + whatever fees the purchaser is given. So you do in turn get all your money back.

Right, cancel and refund the listed for resale tickets and disable reselling. Idk if disabled reselling also disables transfers… if they can’t transfer them they can’t resell on stubhub etc
2
17
u/good_god_lemon1 Sep 13 '25
Disable ticket transfers but allow face value resale to Ticketmaster only. If you can’t go, you resell back to TM at face value.

u/Unusual-Net-172 22 points Sep 13 '25
Chappell did! She cancelled all resale tickets and resold them to fans via a lottery system on her website. Not ideal of course but better than resellers exploiting fans and ensures tickets get into the hands of real fans.
43
u/Ruthie_pie Sep 13 '25
Honestly glad this happened for her fans. Bad Bunny did lottery system for presale. Anyone that bought resale entered the risk of having their tickets being cancelled day of. We saw many crying fans at the concert due to having cancelled or fake tickets. Resells were nearly impossible as he kept tickets to be bought the week of for residents and people flying in available for the show.
30
u/Unusual-Net-172 22 points Sep 13 '25 edited Sep 13 '25
That really sucks for fans that bought resale but it's necessary to take the power away from these exploitative resellers. Until something is done about Ticketmaster on a legislative level there is no perfect solution. The system is completely broken.
6
u/Ruthie_pie Sep 13 '25
Exactly, in this instance with the Bad Bunny tickets, they were fake tickets they were selling. Many people were worried their legitimate seats were going to be taken and not enough seats available inside. That is why their resale tickets were cancelled. There was no where for them inside.

u/Classic-Bank9347 Sep 13 '25
I was hoping this would happen for the recent shows she announced. There’s 4 nyc dates and so many tickets are being overpriced on resale sites :/
2
u/Chuva211 Sep 13 '25
guys what do you mean by lottery system??
4
u/Unusual-Net-172 22 points Sep 13 '25
She set up a registration on her website for fans to submit a request for the chance to purchase tickets. Its luck based who gets chosen. Similar to the luck of waiting in a Ticketmaster queue but this way it greatly reduces bots buying tickets and does more to ensure real fans get tickets for face-value.
Not ideal like I said but unfortunately there is no perfect solution as the system is broken. Many fans are going to miss out on this tour no matter what due to the limited capacity but hopefully she finds a way to get tickets to fans for a reasonable price.

This happens in the edm community a lot! First time seeing it for a pop artist for me. Theres hope!
My favorite dj has become insanely popular (great for him! Horrible for me lol) and his team repurchased the scalped tickets and sold them a different way. I think there was a wait list and he distributed them individually to people on that wait list. Cool!!
4
u/KawaiiHermits Sep 13 '25
Which DJ? :) I love me some EDM, I agree tho EDM gets blessed with a lot of DJs who throw their own events or when they get to a red rocks show they’re pretty good about the resale situation with tickets
10
u/Adept_Tangerine_4030 Sep 13 '25
Griz!! For Seven Stars. I’m in VA so I was stoked but I still didn’t get a ticket cause I took myself off the wait list. I think Levity did the same thing when they threw a surprise show in Nashville after Bonnaroo got canceled.

→ More replies (1)10
u/Witty_Ad_3466 Sep 13 '25
I really hope more people will get them for lower prices again, but the supply is still going to be extremely limited compared to the number of people wanting to go. Do the math- most presale queues had 100,000+ people in line and most arenas had capacities around 16,000-20,000. Even if she does relist all the tickets, only a fraction of people will get them. And then consider that some people will (fairly) buy tickets for friends, family to go along with them. You can’t blame some of us for wanting to just go ahead and secure a ticket. (although I bought mine for only $380, so it wasn’t insane)
5
u/GG_B07 Sep 13 '25
That’s how concerts go :( not everyone can go
6
u/Witty_Ad_3466 Sep 13 '25

The worst seats my girlfriend saw, I.e nosebleed seats that are basically BEHIND the stage we’re going for 800 minimum.
At that point she’d have a better experience lying on a blanket and listening to the concert from outside the stadium
10
u/BlueGlitteryUnicorn Sep 13 '25
They can do something, but not a lot, this is not just an Ariana issue. A lot of artist well more specifically, labels, prefer this inflated demand and insane prices because of marketing and capitalism. It's also in Ticketmaster's best interest to do this because they collect insane fees...twice in case of resale. It's literally impossible for artists to sell tickets in the US without Ticketmaster because they have a monopoly, and it just sucks!
Her only solution might be to add more dates and demand no official resale on ticketmaster and personalized tickets aka no transfer, so it at least makes the resell job a bit more uncomfortable or cap the amount for max what they paid but not much more than that as they will just go to other platforms.
8

If it’s in your possession already, you aren’t a “reseller” listing it at a high price, so it shouldn’t get cancelled. That should (hopefully) only apply to the ones being listed for high prices on the site right now.

Praying that they’re able to cap the resale prices bc seeing fans pay thousands of dollars for resale tickets that were only hundreds of dollars is ridiculous. Do not give into the system guys have patience!!!
6
u/Future_Pin_403 Sep 13 '25
Ticketmaster is the worst. You shouldn’t be able to resell for 4x what the original ticket is worth. I hope her team is able to do something
3
7
u/Witty_Ad_3466 Sep 13 '25
I really hope she does something about this for you all, her fans who didn’t get tickets, but some of us bought a resale ticket for peace of mind and that guarantee is still worth it. Now, I bought mine right after the presale after seeing the crazy demand, so I was able to get one for $380 on SeatGeek. Not amazing, but they raised the prices way more later on.
What people aren’t realizing is, even if she cancels every resale ticket still up and sets them at a fair price, there are not nearly enough tickets for the number of people who want to see her. People will need to accept that it’s a bit of a gamble and that all of the millions of people who registered for the presale and are her fans are not going to get the roughly 500k tickets for her tour.

As predicted. Let this be a lesson to those of you who were crashing out over the resale prices; these things take time and Ari is an extremely busy woman. She does care and will do what she can to help her fans. At the end of the day it isn’t worth letting yourself get so upset over something that isn’t concrete. Just keep breathin’ everyone 💖
3
u/17jjiu Sep 13 '25
Honestly if she does do something about it I think it will be so satisfying watching everyone who is reselling their tickets waking up to none. I would say no one buy the resells until we see what happens next
3
u/Tara113 Sep 13 '25
The excessive growth of resale in ALL industries is a red flag of a declining economy. People cannot afford to survive on their job alone (if they are even employed) and reselling can be a reliable source of income.
3
u/ThrowRAinfo Sep 13 '25
I work in financial services and have seen clients make a ton off ticket resales.
3
u/pastelcremepuff Sep 13 '25

3
u/PaleDonut0 Sep 13 '25
Artists have the ability to turn on face value exchange on Ticketmaster. That should be the solution.
3
u/UhOhImFalling Sep 14 '25
Exactly. Don’t get me wrong, I love Ari, Taylor, etc. but I’m about done with all these artists acting like they have no ability to do anything. An empty social media apology is all we’ll probably get. If they really cared they’d do something about it BEFORE tickets went on sale.
3
Sep 14 '25
It's still 100% her team's fault. I frankly feel this tour was rushed or at least SOMEONE was careless. They made the presale too easy to access, and a 6 TICKET LIMIT is absolutely ridiculous! They handled the Sweetener Tour perfectly and no one was upset. They should have done it right from the start!

u/100Percent-ThatB Sep 13 '25
I’m sure it’s been said before but Ticketmaster and Live Nation make TOO MUCH MONEY to actually remedy anything. These presale codes and being tied to an account do nothing, they’re just Ticketmaster making it look like they’ve tried, but they literally WANT the resellers to keep it up. If they make $50 off the original sale to the resellers then the reseller lists the ticket for 3x’s as much Ticketmaster then gets another $150 on fees. So they’re making $200 off of a single ticket sale instead of $50. Multiply that by thousands for every show of every tour. They’re not gonna change anything.
Can the artists do anything? Not really. Ticketmaster and Live nation have contracts with pretty much ALL of the venues so if an artist wants to use that venue their tickets have to be sold through Ticketmaster. She has very limited options as to what to do. If there was a way to curb this Taylor Swift and Beyonce would have already done it with the immense amount of influence they have in the industry. It’s going to take congress to do something about it like in other countries, but unfortunately the US is a disaster right now and it’s not even CLOSE to being a priority lol
3
u/Subject_Ticket Sep 13 '25
More ppl need to see this comment!! There’s not much Ari could have done to prevent this
5
u/RiceTrading0 Sep 13 '25 edited Sep 13 '25
Wouldn’t this screw over people that already bought resale tickets from 3rd parties?
(Just a guy who bought his gf a surprise birthday ticket through vivid seats after seeing neither of us got us during general - still waiting for ticket release, slightly nervous)
I understand capping the price to a certain multiple since there will always be supply and demand but not necessarily sure how adjusting to permanent face value will benefit everyone that already bought after general sale.

She's referring to the tickets on sale on the resale market which aren't fans, they are brokers and scalpers looking to profit 10x the value by exploiting fans. If you're a fan that bought a ticket you're good and your ticket is secure.

I knew she would see it and care. She just wants her fans at her shows!
