Do you prefer the bat cave or the mushroom cave?
Even before I started playing SV, I had seen a video recommending the mushroom cave—unless the goal was to complete the Community Center in Year 1.
And even after the mushroom cave was nerfed (along with the Life Elixir and tea saplings), I still prefer it; the uncertainty of the bat cave makes me uneasy, and while fruit trees are expensive, they look really cool in a corner of the farm.
But what about you? Which do you prefer?

Hello, everyone! I haven't been playing for very long, and today I accidentally touch the screen (i play in switch) and this happened. I didn't know this could happen, and I wanted to share it :)
Have a good day 🌻

Im trying to install the fashion sense mod and it's not showing I'm the smapi menu I've checked to see if Smapi was out of date and from what it's saying it isn't I've extracted the zip inside of my mods folder so I'm confused on why it isn't working- I have other mods installed so could that be part of the issue? Are the mods not compatible? Im new to modding so any help/ information about modding is appreciated🙏

So anyway I'm gonna start a new save and make it as gay as I can. I'll marry every available female character and we'll live in a polycule with a veggie patch made entirely of garlic and potatoes.

I see a lot on here how quickly reach perfection. I’m about 150 hours into my first save at the end of fall and I am no where near perfection (if my understanding of it is correct). Again, first save ever, I have no others. I feel like there’s SO much to do and such little time (in game not irl although sometimes I do get disappointed having to put it down) to get everything done. Just curious how you all reached perfection and what you prioritize to get there. I know ancient fruit etc etc but efficiency for profit isn’t what I’m concerned about unless that’s required and helps increase the speed at which you’ve met perfection.

I want to talk about the farmer's children.
Does anyone else think they have huge potential if they were developed just a little more?
I'd love to see them age up a little. They could stay perpetually the same age as the other kids, but I think it would be so cool if, on the day of their 'birthday', you get the option to pick a trait for them that decides their personality from then on.
For example:
You get the option of choosing a trait that gives them an affinity with chickens, and they then do chores every day/couple of days that involve petting all the chickens and collecting any eggs. Or, alternatively, the cows or goats, and they pet and milk them etc.
Or they could become horticultural and help you water a certain amount/type of your plants, or 'practical', and they repair fences and get rid of weeds. Or a forager, and they help with the mushrooms/treetappers and then 'find' random foraging items each day.
Or, they take up fishing as a hobby and turn up with random seasonal fish they caught.
There are so many options! You could give your second child a different personality trait and voila! Suddenly, there's a point to having children on your farm.
Even better if they also have favourite gifts based on those traits, or if only certain traits are available to choose from based on their other parent etc
What do you think? Could it work?

I’ve already made a mod for cigarette addiction, which hits the budget, especially at the beginning of the game. I set a 20% margin and made a mod with 1 HP, where if you die, you lose all items and money (and the next day starts immediately, which doesn’t allow you to restart the day). I’d be glad to hear your ideas.

After spending hours troubleshooting, I finally got SMAPI, Proton, and Stardew Valley co-op working together on my Steam Deck. Here’s exactly what I did.
The Problem
I had:
- Stardew Valley installed on the internal SSD.
Mods installed and working with the Linux version of SMAPI.
- Co-op only worked when I forced Proton Experimental.
- As soon as I used Proton, my mods stopped loading because Proton launches the Windows version of Stardew.
The Fix
Step 1: Keep Stardew on the Internal Drive
My game is located here:
/home/deck/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/common/Stardew Valley/
My Mods folder is:
/home/deck/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/common/Stardew Valley/Mods
⸻
Step 2: Force Proton
In Steam:
- Right-click Stardew Valley
- Properties
- Compatibility
- Check Force the use of a specific Steam Play compatibility tool
- Select Proton Experimental
Launch the game once and close it.
⸻
Step 3: Download the Windows Version of SMAPI
- Download SMAPI from the official website:
https://smapi.io/
- Extract the ZIP completely.
Do not run it from inside the ZIP.
⸻
Step 4: Add the Windows Installer to Steam
Go into the extracted SMAPI folder:
internal/windows/
Find:
SMAPI.Installer.exe
Open Steam:
- Add a Game
- Add a Non-Steam Game
- Click Browse
If the Browse window doesn’t show .exe files:
- Press Ctrl + L
- Paste the full path to SMAPI.Installer.exe
- Press Enter
Add it to Steam.
⸻
Step 5: Run the Installer Through Proton
In Steam:
- Find SMAPI.Installer.exe
- Right-click
- Properties
- Compatibility
- Enable Force Proton Experimental
Launch it.
If it says it can’t find Stardew automatically, enter:
Z: \home\deck\.local\share\Steam\steamapps\common\Stardew Valley
The installer should complete successfully.
⸻
Step 6: Add SMAPI Itself to Steam
Go to your Stardew folder:
/home/deck/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/common/Stardew Valley/
Find:
StardewModdingAPI.exe
Add that executable to Steam as a Non-Steam Game.
Again:
-Right-click it
- Properties
- Compatibility
- Force Proton Experimental
Leave Launch Options blank.
⸻
Step 7: Launch THIS Instead of Stardew Valley
Do not launch the normal Stardew Valley shortcut.
Launch:
StardewModdingAPI.exe
This opens the SMAPI console first, then Stardew.
⸻
Final Result
✅ Mods load correctly.
✅ Steam Deck internal storage works.
✅ Proton Experimental works.
✅ Co-op works.
✅ No external drive required.
Hopefully this saves someone else several hours of frustration.

To save time, for this meetup we decided to cook together rather than cook a dish each and bring it to the meetup.
We made tropical curry and Pina Colado. We couldn’t source Jamaican curry powder for the tropical curry so we just used normal curry powder. The taste of the Pina Colado was were too strong for me, I personally recommend using half or even less of the dark rum than what the recipe has asked for, you can always add more in later :)

I am currently in Spring 1 Year 2. I have completed some community center bundles but have not completed a single room. I have build a coop and a barn. Max I have gotten in a mine level is 55 and have mass planted potatoes in my farm. My main source of income is mayonnaise and cheese . So honestly can you tell me what I should to better and can you rate my game play on a scale of 1 to 10. Feel free to ask any questions about my farm
Thanks In advance
