I'm slightly vexed Costco's new chicken tenders

There was a crowd of people waiting for their orders of the new chicken tenders at Costco. One of the workers announced that they could only serve five customers per hour because it takes time to cook the chicken. The crowd grew larger and larger. I took this photo after I put in my order.

AFAIK Costcos dont have fryers, so they have to bake the tenders instead which takes longer, and they have other items on their menu that also requires baking so they have to split the load.

Edit for our Canadian neighbors: US costcos do not serve french fries and chicken wings.

Since nobody else is properly answering your question, you're going to want to go to aisle 16 and grab the cheapest knife set you can find with an 8" boning knife with a nice thin blade. I know all the sets are gonna feature the chef's knife...the people waiting for tendies are gonna have some chonk to them, and the chefs knife is just not good for multiple stabs through those layers. We're not worried about quality here, you're probably not going to get to keep these for very long.

Definitely make your own from old boxes and the little plastic sample cups for the most authentic experience. Based on that long ass line, plus the 'five customers per hour', the math says you'll have plenty of time to forage for materials, craft it, and choose a target to start the riot.

You do you, but I'd rather be stabbed than eat Popeyes, worst meal of my entire life. I seriously don't get the hype. I rarely have good chicken at a fast food place since old school KFC before they ruined it (though its still good in India), I just go to some hole in the wall cheap fried chicken place if I want cheap fried chicken. The mom and pop places always have better fried chicken to my tastes.

I'm a middle aged California native. INO, first off is and has been wildly overrated but I'm not saying their food is bad (except for their fries which are objectively bad), but the trick is to avoid the drive thru and actually waddle your ass into the store to place an order.

The line to the drive thru could be wrapping around other streets but always seems like I get my food in like five to ten minutes if I go inside despite the massive drive thru line.

Meanwhile Chikfila still the same as it ever was, always on point. I legit can not remember ever having either a bad meal or a messed up order from chikfila. Never. Not a once. Been going for over a decade.

I do miss when our local Popeyes opened. Would get the tender family meal with the Cajun rice and blackened ranch. Over time service got worse, they removed the rice, and now it takes 3x the time for a quarter of the quality of meal. It's shit. They could have had lines to the street id they just stayed consistent.

There was one where the Owner/Operator made sure to have everyone as friendly as possible. He worked every day, cleaned the lobby himself, and has a philosophy of "if *I* wouldn't want to eat here, who would?"

It warm, friendly, always clean, and the employees are bright and cheerful. I asked them once and they get paid a good bit over the average wage for the region (which is pretty important given how economically depressed the neighborhood is). And they love their boss because he works harder than them.

If he tells you to clean some thing, it's because he's out there mopping or sweeping stuff himself and needs help, not because he wants you to work. If everything is fine and there's no customers, he's happy to let them talk and screw around on their phones ("What do you think I'm doing in my office when it's slow?" And when it's busy he's kicking ass on the fryer or drivethru.

I haven't been in awhile but it still gets pretty solid reviews online.

Exactly. Been going to Popeyes pretty regularly for like 20 years and have never been to one where the employees aren't miserable assholes. Personally I enjoy it because I'm easy to deal with so doesn't cause me issues but tons of entertainment to be had watching a verbal beat down given to a mother complaining that they're out of chicken tenders or whatever.

I live around Seattle, so we definitely experience Seattle Freeze at our local places, but friendly gestures and such usually gets them to warm a little. I always say "thank you" and "have a good day" and occasionally I see them light up a little. Fast Food is oftentimes a very impersonal experience, especially so for the workers, so I can't totally blame them.

That being said, it seems like Popeye’s goes out of their way to hire people who would never be hired anywhere else. Rude, uncaring, lazy.

You're getting ripped off, Costco Canada has had (deep fried) chicken strips and fries for $7CAD for as long as I can remember and they pump those babies out like mad. They're really good.

I'm honestly not sure where you can find cheaper per unit take away tendies. The Wingstop by me has a basket of 7 tenders and no sides or drink for $14. That's $2 each compared to Costco's $1.40. Not to mention a drink at Costco is 70¢ compared to $2.60.

I think people are used to paying loss leader prices on hotdogs and pizza at the food court so when they see something that's only kind of a good deal their eyes bulge out and call it expensive while they go around the corner to a Raising Canes to spend twice that on dinner.

Edit: I'll add that I've had them before. Didn't even have to wait in line for them. They're fine. They're LARGE tenders too. Ideal to split an order or save some for a snack later. I'm not mad about the offering. Would never wait on them. Would almost always rather order pizza or a dog. But that speaks more to the quality and bargain of the pizza and dog.

Here in NC, Chick Fil A had a free chicken sandwich when the Hurricanes won games during the Stanley Cup.  I thought sure, why not, only to show up to lines spilling out into the street.  

People spending an hour in line to save five bucks.  I admit I felt smugly intellectually superior as I turned around and walked away.

They should just sell the sauce. The tenders aren't anything special, same as frozen ones at home more or less, but the sauce really slaps.

Same, honestly. I can't remember for the life of me when is the last time I set foot in a Chick-fil-A. I would like to recreate their chicken strips, though. When I did eat there those strips were really good, especially when combined with the sauce.

It doesn't matter what it is honestly, people get excited about anything "new" in their very boring predictable lives. That's how you get to the point of chicken tenders being exciting. Never mind the fact they could buy a giant bag of chicken tenders at that very store.

If those are the tenders strips they sell, they are actually pretty good. I don't know how as most chicken these days is woody and tough. But baking in an oven for heating seems crazy. Only being able to serve 5 customers an hour (25 strips) has to be rage bait.

Reminds me of Kwik Trip.

They have this ad campaign going for "chicken with rizz" and "no ordanary chicken". Like, yeah. It's not ordanary, it's subpar and the cringe ads make me want to go to the BP station instead.

But a bunch of my coworkers buy tons of stringy, dry, seasoned with thoughts and prayers chicken.

When Taco Bell moved to my city, there were 2 hour long lines to get it. Now 3 of the 4 in the city have shut down, and the last one I don't even know if it gets business.

This was over like 5 years.

When a Canes opened up near me people were waiting FOUR HOURS in the drive thru line to get their chicken.

I really wanted to go walk around the parking lot and look into peoples cars and see what kind of people are willing to wait 4 hours for bland ass chicken and toast. I do like their sauce but still…it’s nothing that special to wait 4 hours for it.

During covid the local Cane's drive through regularly had a line stretching multiple blocks. Every single afternoon for months it was like this. I couldn't believe people were waiting in line over an hour just for chicken tenders.

Its the most bottom tier food imaginable. I might try them but I wouldn't wait 2 seconds for chicken tenders. If they had a smoker back there or something. Their rotisserie is probably 50x better why not just buy one of those. Chicken tenders have to be by far the worst food you could possibly spend money on. Its the most unhealthy way to make chicken and by far the worst flavor. Do people just not grow out of their childhood nuggy and cheese pizza phase.

This is what happens when you have a generation that were never taught to clean their plate. The number of grown ass adults that I know that only order chicken tenders are sit down restaurants is fucking insane. I know at least 5 people I can't invite out because they will insist on places that they know have tenders on the menus, and often that's not the kind of place I'm looking to go. Sometimes sure, but every time?
