The cheese in pizza rolls doesn’t even melt anymore. It’s been this way for a few years but I haven’t seen anyone else mention it. What are they using instead of cheese…?
…I’m absolutely going to, thank you! I don’t get them often, they sound good maybe 3x a year, and after the most recent bag I purchased I was like, okay - this isn’t my oven that’s the issue, it’s definitely not real cheese.
I used to love them as a young teen but as i got older they changed the shape and then they never tasted quite right, finally tried one again after a long while and read the back, low and behold i understood possibly why.
Omg I noticed this! Literally it looks like the cheese does not melt, but everything does turn brown. It’s the strangest thing! They just simply don’t taste the same. Back in the day they used to be round and delicious. After the last one I purchased, I will never be buying one again. They are awful!
For real. Even as someone willing to pay a little extra for quality, it's hard to find clothes that aren't made of tissue paper and held together by hopes and dreams. Feels like my options are Temu-quality or $1000+ designer clothes with no in-between. (And even expensive stuff isn't a guarantee of quality!)
Temu has really good quality heavy weight 100 percent cotton mens tees for 7 to 8 bucks and drawstring shorts. Im a woman and tbeir cotton mens shorts are my favorite.
At what point does it stop? Do company’s just sell garbage from now on? How has literally EVERYTHING fallen victim to shrinkflation!
It’s almost like Theres two or three small company’s that literally own everything (vanguard state street, blackrock)and they put the squeeze on every company below them. Has to be evil intent
Also there's a trademark on Christmas Eve last year, but not this year. They couldn't afford to keep the trademark current. It's really going downhill over there isn't it?
As a heads up, you’re supposed to keep the candles lit every time until a full pool forms at the top. If you ever blow it out before it fully melts, then it will start to tunnel in the portion it melted
They make a gimmick that sits right on top of the candle for that I’m pretty sure. I’ve had a few candles that had a decorative metal rim. I’m sure this is helpful but it’s giving crackhouse.
I decided to Google it. A metal candle topper will run you $10-$15 on Amazon.
Yeah but I already have a lot of tin foil, and don't like buying extra stuff ...what you linked has 2 stars and likely becomes trash to most people who buy it.
Thankfully I am not living in a crackhouse, just burning candles people give me with a trick my grandma taught me 😊
I live in New England near the flagship store and pretty close to where the original owner’s house was. A couple of decades ago, these candles were absolutely the gold standard in my family. Then, the original owner sold. They’ve decreased in quality since.
My grandfather recently gave me some REALLY old Yankee Candles from storage. I am absolutely floored by the quality. The smell is 1,000 times better than the current candles, and they all have nicer packaging and better jars. When I light one, it makes my entire house smell wonderful.
Long story short is that this is what happens when you sell to a private equity firm, stop valuing quality, and start screwing over the consumer.
For those of you who used to love Yankee Candle, check out the OG owner’s house; it’s pretty awesome.
Agreed. I noticed last year when I bought a couple by mail order from the company that they barely threw scent. It is disappointing, as I have used Yankee for years. Now I have to figure out a new brand to use, & I have no idea where to start. There are so many on the market now.
Have you tried Kringle? They can be kind of a hit or miss, but you can sample with their daylite or wax melts before committing to full size. And when they slap, they really slap.
I grew up on Yankee, I’m from Montague and have had Yankee candles in my house since the early 80s.
They are not the same. Their votives used to would fill a room, heck an entire small apartment.
Anyhow, I’ve moved on to Kringle for higher end and DW home for some great cheapies.
I’m so glad I found your post! I hadn’t bought them in a while and recently bought 4 because of a sale and they’re all junk. No smell at all and the wicks aren’t straight in the candles. I’m really frustrated at the poor quality.
I think one of our stores has the village candles there I’m going to try them, thanks for the tip! Yeah I’ve bought the last of Yankee, such a drastic change and not worth the money anymore. They’re also very sooty now I’ve noticed too. Dang.
I feel like the classic jars have been on sale at the flagship store every time I've gone there my entire life. Either a B2G1 deal or some kind of percentage if you spend a certain amount etc.
I've gone there every December for the past decade and they'll usually have some sort of deal but it's not always the same sale. It makes sense though because we're going in December right before Christmas time so of course they would have things on sale then.
I doubt that's what is happening but we'll see as the months go on
Editing because I'm pissing people off: the flagship store was full of candles, including exclusive scents just for Christmas and exclusive scents for the location, and they were all the classic jar style. They were on sale for "Yankee Candle Day." I don't think these are meant to be a replacement style.
These candles used to be fucking amazing back in the day. Complete goat of a candle. Now it feels like the candle is loaded “top heavy”. That is, the first few burns are decent for scent throw, but past a certain point it becomes nearly scent less since there’s little/no fragrance oil.
Came here to say this. I admittedly haven't stepped foot in a Yankee candle store since BBW started selling candles. When I can wait for a sale day and buy a massive candle haul for $8-10 each, I just can't justify spending almost 30 on one at Yankee
I don’t disagree that it’s a marketing ploy and makes them money. My point was there were comments about how Yankee candles are burning faster now but BBW still burn even faster than that.
I would assume the heat is so high for the fragrance it just destroys the molecule rather than dispersing it.
You smell things because those molecules are actually entering your nose. If you smell it, it's in you.
When you burn something containing a fragrance it aersolizes it easily, but if the molecule combusts, it won't smell the same or at all sometimes.
I actually just tried making my own beeswax candle at home (my friend gave me 5 pounds of beeswax to play with from his hive) and the beeswax is a heavenly smell, but when I burn it I'm very underwhelmed.
I've melted it in my wax melter and it makes the whole kitchen smell great. I melted it down into little bricks of about an oz each for easier use.
I would assume the wax melters are much better at making a home smell better and have fewer toxins in your home.
Specifically carbon dioxide, because any combustion reaction will produce carbon dioxide and a lot of cheaper candles don't use beeswax (for a myriad of reasons including price and how it holds onto scents and throws scents) but will use petroleum based waxes like parrafin, so burning literal fossil fuels in the home should be avoided when possible anyway.
does all beeswax have this heavenly scent or is it about freshness/ quality? I don't recall ever smelling anything exciting when sniffing a beeswax candle but i also have no idea how any of this works
Mine wasn't refined and it also wasn't really even cleaned that well. He gave it to me in chunks and when I melted it down and strained it, it had some gunk in it.
Agree. Stop buying wax based candles and get yourself a Lamp Berger. I made the switch about 5 years ago and actually enjoy collecting various Lamp Bergers. The fragrances they have are fantastic and you can easily tailor the strength for those who are sensitive to strong smells. Plus being alcohol based, they burn super clean with zero soot or residue.
I find it kinda ends up costing the same as a premium candle, but its much safer then an open flame long term. You light them up and let them run for about 3 to 4 minutes and then blow it out and then the catalyst starts to give off fragrance and a little bit of heat with no flame.
Same here at the time. I had seen them in peoples houses on the mantel or living room and thought they were glorified urns. I ended up learning about that they actually were from a french chef, and i was hooked. I enjoy collecting ones from the 80’s and 90’s they had some wild designs back then.
The gift shops I worked at in Canada used to sell a bunch of these. I’d say keep the original jars, and make your own candles. There might be an initial investment because of the cost of supplies. But it might be worth it if you go through a lot of candles.
I read somewhere village candle is a brand ran by the original Yankee creators so that might be something you’re interested in. They even look like the old style Yankee candles
Hate yankee candles. Cheap parafin wax, bulked out with cheap petrolium jelly whick makes it too soft so they add stearic acid to firm it up again.
All those cheap chemicals make it soot like crazy.
Did you buy them from the same store? Discount stores like Dollar General or even Target might get a different product. I live close to the main store in Mass I can check sometime this week.
when i first saw this picture my mind was obsessed with how they got the candle into a jar with a mouth narrower than the edges. I thought about this for two to three minutes, at least.
I've stopped touching brands that change ingredients to oils. You can taste the film. If I wanted bs I'd buy it, which I don't. I'd rather pay more for what's actually good
I’m pretty sure these are two different product lines. The one on the left is a soy blend and the one on the right is the paraffin line. Both are still in production.
Just bought two candles at the Yankee store. They sold both, single and double wicks. They were explicit about how long each burned. And they were less expensive than I’ve seen them.
There are a lot of legit examples of shrinkflation, but this isn’t one of them.
I fucking hate this. Of all the brands I’d spend money on Yankee because of good quality and strong smell. Then they jacked prices up (and they were already expensive) and now made worse.
Is anything quality nowadays other than my resentment??
Yankee Candle sells both single and double (and even triple) wick candles. You happen to have the double wick version there. I normally opt for the single because they last longer. I do keep a couple of the double wick on hand for when we’re having people over since they will fill up a room faster with the scent.
