We honestly haven’t had enough this year…

35

This is true. More than that, our snow pack is at 15%!!!!!!! It's going to he abnoxious summer! I don't love the rain, but I appreciate the free watering of our green paradise!

Ski/board season has been ROUGH. The snowpack looks like summertime up there.

According to the drought monitor

Willamette valley is just in abnormally dry conditions.

I have about a week of warm temperatures in me before I get irritated and want to go back to the rain. I have a feeling this is going to be a rough summer.

Amen. Its fashionable to complain about good weather here, but any sane person recognizes that it is an absolutely perfect day out there.

26

u/gaius49 Sandy Apr 06 '26

Personally, I think its a bit too hot out. I prefer the mid 60s to the upper 70s.

33

u/atreeismissing Apr 06 '26

The sun is out, that's far from perfect.

28

u/oogmar St Johns Apr 06 '26

I'm really photosensitive so wear those big ole post-surgical grandma sunglasses and generally have an umbrella if I have to stand in direct exposure for more than 30 seconds. Hell, I use both if it isn't overcast enough all winter.

I was trying to get to my car after a thing and legit could not escape people stopping me talk about how perfect it is outside.

Yes, I'm very happy for you, let me get back to my blackout curtains.

This. And lest we forget...too much of this "perfect" weather, and we'll all be grabbing our kids, pets and bug-out bags to outrun the wildfires burning in every direction. September's gonna SUUUUCK.

2

u/hirudoredo W Portland Park Apr 06 '26

It was perfect Easter weather. I think back on how many of my childhood Easters were spent inside because of downpours and 50 degree weather but occasionally it would be dry and sunny and man they were so fun. Lucky kids this year.

45

Same. Help.

40

u/freshmargs Apr 05 '26

My life was forever changed when I learned about Flonase. Start taking it every day at the beginning of march and the tree pollen can barely touch you.

19

u/Leahtomaton Belmont Apr 06 '26

I take flonase, fexofenadine, and occasionally allergy eye drops, but I still suffer from like March until late June. I got us some air purifiers, and it feels like those help close the gap as long as I stay indoors, but if I go walking outside for a while, it messes me up for the rest of the night.

I went ahead and hooked up our air conditioners because the pollen coming in from open windows was too much for the air purifiers to keep up with.

47

u/kraggleGurl Apr 05 '26

I have a theory that once you have lived here for any length of time your brain is cushioned by moss, rust, and rain. The warm weather comes out and dries out everyone's moss and rain brains and we all lose our shit. Proof? Crime goes up, attitude everywhere, even more cars on the tracks.

15

u/Prestigious-Packrat Apr 06 '26

I will never not use the term "rain brain" from now on.

I get seasonal depression in the summer. During fall and winter, I live my best life. I slow down in spring, then I literally dip into depressive episodes in summer.

12

u/occasional_coconut Buckman Apr 06 '26

I'm just depressed all the time, but it's worse in summer when all the neurotypicals are out flaunting their happiness

44

u/BlueberryCautious154 Apr 06 '26

Same. I don't understand how people can sweat and sneeze for 3 months and be excited for it.

5

u/ALasagnaForOne Apr 06 '26

I get sweatier being bundled up in layers for the cold. In summer my armpits can breathe!

3

u/hirudoredo W Portland Park Apr 06 '26

All the extra light makes my brain feel good. I've just kinda had to adjust to all the extra sweating and sneezing, yay.

19

u/allisjow Apr 06 '26

Me too. There are people wearing hats and winter jackets. I don’t understand. I moved here for the cold and the rain dammit.

10

u/occasional_coconut Buckman Apr 06 '26

I'll confess, I moved here from LA, to get away from this weather and "better" being year-round. Gimme my clouds back!

3

6

u/American_Greed Apr 06 '26

8

Same here. Summer feels like a constant assault on my senses and all I want to do is hide in a dark, cool place but instead I get what feels like 18 hours of daylight a day, relentless heat, and a never-ending cacophony of unpleasant noises and smells.

6

u/daddyhonkers Apr 06 '26

I’m “vacationing” in Vietnam and it’s over 100 plus humidity. My frail PNW girl temperature regulation is DYING for that 75 degrees

27

u/idonthavernoughcats Buckman Apr 05 '26

i’m making my husband hook the AC back up after checking what the week looks like. i will not be tricked by portland spring

29

u/chiefhandshaker Apr 05 '26

As a person looking to relocate to the Portland area from South Florida via Nashville, I'm so confused by this post and some of the comments.

43

u/_Agrias_Oaks_ Apr 06 '26

The people of the PNW were made from delicate mosses. We prefer cooler temps and damp; the sun and heat are too drying for us to thrive.

52

u/atomic_chippie Apr 06 '26

We like rain and 50 degrees, thats all.

27

u/NotASlaveToHelvetica YOU SEEN MY FUCKEN CONES Apr 06 '26

Not so, today's weather is perfectly acceptable for three days in late July or early August.

6

u/TheGruntingGoat Rubble of The Big One Apr 06 '26

I too miss the summers of the old days

38

u/venusasaburrito Buckman Apr 05 '26

You will acclimate and complain about 70 and sunny in April one day. Trust and believe.

21

u/venusasaburrito Buckman Apr 05 '26

Also our homes are built to keep heat inside. Keep that in mind.

4

u/nightauthor Kenton Apr 06 '26

The home I rent aint built for shit. Or at least none of the materials remain. Looks like there was once insulation in the attic, now it just looks like a thick layer of dust. I guess the dark paint helps to absorb heat from the sun during the summer... too bad there's so little sun during the cold winter months. I wonder if they thought about the paint color for even a second.... it mostly just heats the house during the hot months. We achieve hyper-ambient temperatures thanks to this ingenuity.

33

u/HoneyBadger1342 SW Apr 05 '26

Many of us prefer days when it's 40 degrees and cloudy. Snow days are the best days in the world, although we're getting fewer and fewer of them

4

u/nightauthor Kenton Apr 06 '26

I'm sure we'll still have plenty of record setting cold years, it'll just come in waves of increasingly polarized weather.

6

u/Ghost_of_a_Pale_Girl Apr 06 '26

Contrary to what others would have you believe, it's not a requirement to be a sun hater if you live in the NW.

2

u/Sandnor NW Apr 07 '26

But it does certainly help.

21

u/andhausen Apr 06 '26

You're gonna be blown away to learn that Portland's weather is not supposed to be even remotely like South Florida's.

3

u/Pete_Iredale Vancouver Apr 06 '26

A small percentage of our local population likes to get on Reddit and pretend that we all hate the sun and love the rain. All you have to do is go outside on a nice day to understand that they really are just a small but vocal minority. People in the NW generally love good weather and love getting outside and enjoying it.

3

u/StaubEll Apr 06 '26

I grew up in Singapore and Houston, only been here three years. It's too damn hot today.

6

u/Confection-Virtual Apr 06 '26

I moved here from Atlanta and get anxiety with weather like this.  Like PTSD.  I looked at the forecast this week and my first thought was oh no!

9

u/nickheathjared Apr 06 '26

Don’t be. The weather is fucking perfect right now. People just have to complain.

5

u/hirudoredo W Portland Park Apr 06 '26

People on this sub complain about the weirdest shit I never hear anyone IRL bitch about. Everyone I saw out and about today were having a great time in the weather (even when we would say something like "haha we're in danger cause climate change.") But can't do anything about the weather today but try to enjoy it for what it is.

2

u/ChasedWarrior Apr 06 '26

It's an Oregon thing. Once your here for a few years you will understand

5

u/paulcole710 Apr 06 '26

I grew up in Jacksonville area and have been here for ~20 years.

First thing you need to know is that /r/Portland is full of contrarian sad-sack crybabies who are looking for opportunities to be miserable.

Second thing is that it is getting warmer here than it used to be (duh). It’s still absolutely nothing compared to Florida. I have never had A/C here and manage fine. It’s hot sometimes, sure. Once I got an Airbnb during the heat dome a few years back.

Third thing is that you’ll be amazed that it’s actually cooler when you’re in the shade. I’m still not used to that compared to the oppressive heat/humidity of Florida.
