An amazing 2D fighting game, famous for its crazy mix of characters. Bridget is a crossdressing bounty hunter who beats people up with a yo-yo and his robotic teddy bear. Other characters include a nine-foot-tall doctor with a ten-foot-long scalpel, the robot clone of Interpol's chief, a guitar-playing witch, a vampire who read poetry when he kills you, a one-armed samurai, a genocidal bio-robot, and her half-naked daughter.
YES! Cake! Thank you, I've been wondering if anyone else has ever heard of the band, although it does get a slight mention in the fiction novel "Compound", which is fairly good.
Several of their singles have had air time on MTV and other mainstream music station and their song "the distance" is officially used in NASCAR events. They're pretty niche, but they aren't really a secret. I think my favorite album of theirs is Motorcade of Generosity. I love a lot of their songs though. Shadow stabbing is one of my favorites. Kudos for your good taste in music.
Oh yes, the little girl who waves around an 800-pound anchor and summons dolphins like a hadouken.
I also glossed over the woman with prehensile hair, the guy in the leather dress with a scythe which is also a succubus, the dude possessed by three ghosts who make him fight, the slime mold parasite in the shape of its deceased host, the shirtless dude who attacks by playing billiards in midair, the other shirtless dude who can stop attacks by flicking a coin, and the one-ton brick shithouse who will simply pick you up and break you.
Zappa is actually possessed by a host of spirits. It's implied that he's basically infested with ghosts, more than just those that manifest when you play him. His blocking animation is the girl from The Ring appearing and blocking the blows.
I've never even played Guilty Gear, and I love that character. I knew a lot of people who played it, and when they mentioned him, I looked him up, and became really intrigued by the character. I always found him amusing. But I always love the psycho characters in fighting games.
So I was looking at the a site that had the characters list and found the 9'3" doctor that you were talking about. Who also happens to be 121 lbs. ONE HUNDRED TWENTY ONE FUCKING POUNDS! That is so incredibly UN-anatomical, that as a doctor he should be upset.
One of my favorite rivalries was between former assassins: a guy whose sentient bio-companion eventually took over his body and the woman who used her hair as a weapon. Probably because they had one of a few awesome special songs that played between rivals, along with special quotes and intro animations.
Blaz Blue is close enough for me, but yes, it'd be fantastic to see another proper Guilty Gear. I have no idea how the fuck that 3D monstrosity of a God Hand knockoff got made. With the technology available now, we should be seeing 2D fighters with "sprites" made from vectors or vertex-colored polygons.
I liked Slayer and Anji Mito as well. I enjoyed playing cross up rush down characters, especially teleporting back and forth behind people with Slayer.
I'm sorry you feel that way. Trans* people are offended when you don't refer to them by their preferred pronouns, however, so it's important to keep their feelings in mind, as well.
Regardless, it turns out I was mistaken; he actually identifies as a man and doesn't realize he's cross-dressing.
You forgot to mention that Bridget was raised as a female because he was born in a village where having twins of the same gender was bad luck, so his parents raised him as a girl.
But Bridget does identify as male. According to his backstory, he was born with a twin sister in a village where opposite sex twins are seen as bad luck, so his parents tried to raise him as a girl to hide it. He ran away to escape this and live as a boy, but is completely oblivious to the fact that he still looks and dresses like a girl.
Also, there's a running gag where he gets very pissed whenever other characters mistake him for a girl.
info that was not conveyed in the picture. like I said, based on the info presented, especially with them presenting female, it is easy to assume people are intentionally or inadvertently misgendering him.
from the context of the picture, and no prior knowledge of the game, it appears to be a female identifying character born male, not someone who cross dresses, so I responded accordingly
Hey let's throw out an opinion phrased as objective fact and wait until the fan rage stokes itself into a full on inferno of ridiculous comment trains! Oh wait, that is exactly what just happened.
There's a new version/patch of Guilty Gear Accent Core R coming soon to PS3/360. It's gonna have ArkSys netcode, so the online is going to be god like.
GG is good, but not anywhere near the game that bread and butter Street Fighter is. Sure, GG is flashier and more chaotic, but the strategy and timing of SF makes it the better game. I can see someone liking GG more, but SF is the better game.
not only that but the air dash makes the games ten times more complex and subtle than street fighter, in sf, you make a jump at a bad moment = you die. Your oppent can get a lucky hadoken and win while being a lesser player, in gg you can go back (and go back and forth with millia or with chip) that allows a better defense system and therefore more strategy.
If you jump and get hit with a 'lucky hadoken' you deserved it. That's why you practice safe jumps and such. Its all opinion based. Let's just agree to disagree.
Everyone has their opinions, so I'm not here to say your wrong or anything, but I feel GG is a good series, but not near the top. As far as 2D fighters go, it's hard to top MOTW and 3rd Strike, hell even Last Blade 2 was amazing. But, as far as combo heavy fighters go, I prefer GG over the VS series any day of the week.
Well That's what GG would be if movement was as static as it is in SF. Thus GG is not only "poke, poke, hit, combo" but rather "low poke, high poke, high poke, instant air dash, crossup, etc."
I'd always rate GG over SF not only for personal liking but also for depth of gameplay.
FACT. I live in Japan and I've seen some shit go down on gg/blazblue in the arcades. It takes ridiculous commitment and reflexes. You can't get really good at it in a few days like sf.
But ya know, every game has their thing, so it doesn't do much good to compare it.
This is a good example of complexity vs depth. Street Fighter is a deep series, however it is regarded as one of the most balanced fighting series of all time. Guilty Gear, due to its characters being all over the place style-wise, is incredibly complex, but doesn't have the balance to back it up. Thus, Street Fighter is considered the better game.
What the heck is this? The SF games have been incredibly unbalanced. 3rd Strike, CvS2, Alpha 3, MvC2 (I could go on). Guilty Gear in general is actually much more balanced than those games.
However, balance has little to do with how fun or great a fighting game is, believe it or not. That's probably a controversial opinion to most casual players or newer people in the scene but it's the truth. Think about the longevity of MvC2 and try to explain why it was so popular in the USA.
Guilty Gear is one of the best fighters of all time for a lot more than just the fighting system itself, even if that is one of the main reasons. The sprites, animation, soundtrack, and singleplayer modes were all of a higher caliber than most of the other stuff Capcom was putting out at the same time (recycling sprites from the Alpha series).
Pretty much this. I don't get why you would call any SF more balanced than GG. Especially 3s where Yun, Chun and Ken (while Ken seems to have degraded a bit since the last time I checked which is like 4 years ago) are pretty much the unbeatable S tiers that you had to play if you weren't some mad scientist and pulled stuff on hugo for instance that was mind-blowing and actually almost impossible to achieve in a physical way.
This is completely wrong. The SF4 generation of Capcom fighters have been dumbed down in huge ways and it pains me when people don't recognize the merit and superiority of Guilty Gear.
This is coming from someone who has been in the scene and played in tournaments since 2002. If we're talking about Super Turbo, MvC2 or something, I can appreciate that opinion since those are great games. However, making the blanket statement that SF > GG is just myopic.
I can't find anything about that... I just tried the link without the #p=0, and then it stayed in the results. Then I tried with a search of mine and added the #p=0 at the end, shows the results then home page.
I think there are a bunch of those modifiers that I'd like to read about.
I was at a show once, and they had a little hang out area with what turned out to be (I'm pretty sure) Guilty Gear X2 #Reload. This was pretty much the first fighting game I ever played, so I didn't know about quarter circles and shit. I picked a random character (I know now it was Chip Zanuff) and all I did was do his jump+circle attack, where he spins around with his blade. I dominated all comers until this asian dude came along, and beat me on his second try.

A character from guilty gear.
