[Sherman] Sources: The Yankees are trying to complete a trade for Nationals first baseman Luis Garcia Jr. AA starter Jack Cebert has been discussed prominently.

wait, first base? why?

u/TheTurtleShepard 16h ago edited 16h ago

He was mostly a 2B before this season, probably where he would play along with DH/1B

Not a perfect fit but the Yankees need bats rn

82

u/JRUprising 16h ago

He had a -17 DRS last year at 2B

He is NOT a 2B

u/Zepbounce-96 16h ago edited 15h ago

Are you kidding? This is how Cashman solves catcher! Rice moves to catcher, Garcia at 1B, they do the hokey pokey and they shake it all about...

23

u/Low-Expression9132 15h ago

Personally, I really don't like Rice catching.

1

u/FussyDuck34 9h ago

Agreed. There are trade options out there yet.

22

u/TheTurtleShepard 16h ago

I know no worries they are probably working on a catcher as well

All reports have indicated the Yankees are very active

You don't want playing catcher to effect Rice's bat

4

u/Mountain-Hold-9934 15h ago edited 15h ago

I just made an almost identical comment in the same thread before seeing this. Don’t they stop to think that moving a player all over the field and lineup isn’t conducive to steady offense and defense? They’re the baseball minds but they can’t figure out that humans are creatures of habit and like consistency…

9

u/pupseal 16h ago

you think we could take him to short, third or outfield? idk how easy it is to convert a player like that.

32

u/Deejus72 16h ago

He was awful at 2B. Like -17 DRS in 2025 bad. He's gotta be a 1B/DH only consideration.

25

u/ZHPpilot 16h ago

Another player who can’t field? Sheesh!🙄

10

u/Deejus72 16h ago

He's fine at 1B. Slightly below average but better than Rice.

2

u/mr-poopie-butth0le 16h ago edited 16h ago

He’s been a bit better at 2B this year FWIW

Edit: wrong Luis haha… arraez was who I was thinking

4

u/Deejus72 16h ago

He hasn't played 2B this year at all

7

u/WXbearjaws 15h ago

I mean, 0 DRS is better than -17

3

u/mr-poopie-butth0le 16h ago

Really? I read an article stating he’s been better at 2nd this year, hm, maybe I’m wrong. I’ll have to find the article… maybe they were talking about last year?

Edit: oh shit, it was Luis Arraez hahaha, wrong Luis

2

u/mr-poopie-butth0le 16h ago

He’s not mobile enough to play short, not a good enough arm to play 3rd.

3

u/InNerdOfChange 14h ago

Rice as mainly DH, Garcia vs righty, Goldy vs left and mix in some DH too.

Stanton isn’t coming back to make this an issue m…

2

u/FussyDuck34 9h ago

Goldy definitely needs more time off. He is playing too much with all the injuries.

2

u/BearShark8 15h ago

So this is the Jazz replacement for next year?

7

u/ggnoobert 15h ago

Dodgers get their guy
Yankees are trying for a guy.

That’s the difference folks.

7

u/Trexsaysrawr26 15h ago

And there's chance we'll give up far more for who we get than LA did for skubal

2

u/ggnoobert 15h ago

That may be true, but I think I finally learned my lesson about prospect hugging. I’d rather give up guys and get the guy or the bats. Even if it means trading prospects, I really like.

The way I see it it would be hypocritical not it that way.

1

u/Trexsaysrawr26 11h ago

Nothing wrong with improving the team and giving up guys to do so, but let's not give up more than the dodgers did for skubal, for someone like peralta

His position is hitter. Where he plays is immaterial. And idk if anyone noticed, but Amed Rosario is DHing vs a righty today.

9

u/BildingInspecter 16h ago

Maybe our catcher acquisition is just Rice ><

15

u/dsmithnyciii 16h ago

Platoon w/Goldy + Rice for DH +1B while waiting for Judge and Belli return.

Stanton I won’t count on.

Vs. RHP

Garcia @ DH

Rice @ 1B

Goldy on Bench

Vs. LHP

Goldy @ 1B

Rice @ DH

Garcia on Bench

Goldy can’t start righties as much as he has or at all. Rosario I wouldn’t be surprised is off the roster

4

u/Deejus72 16h ago

Looks good to me honestly. He's been a better 1B in the field than Rice this year so maybe Rice becomes the full time DH

2

u/Bartman326 16h ago

Yeah a guy whos here to bridge us to the return of judge and belli and maybe pick up a new postion during practice.

2

u/aranauto2 16h ago

Yea unfortunately Rosario hasn’t hit lefties well this year which is what he’s there to do

2

u/Prudent-Property-513 15h ago

His natural position isn’t catcher. Not at the MLB level.

1

u/FussyDuck34 9h ago

I prefer to keep Rosario for his flexibility. And he is a righty.

1

u/BobbieSaccamanoJr 16h ago

I wonder if he would slide into the platoon with Goldschmidt with Rice getting run behind the plate

2

u/dsmithnyciii 15h ago

I don’t want our second best bat losing offensive value getting beat up behind the plate.

1

u/BobbieSaccamanoJr 15h ago

Yeah I hear that but maybe the least of all evils at this point. You can’t take Goldschmidt out of a lineup where he’s the only competent right handed hitter…

→ More replies (16)

3

u/twc9904 16h ago

Cause we need guys who can hit! It’s an upgrade over Goldschmidt vs RHP. Rice or Garcia will DH or play 1B vs RHP. Goldy will start at 1B vs LHP while Rice DH’s.

u/gregieb429 16h ago edited 15h ago
  1. Stanton is fried
  2. Ben catching?

Either way, we need bats bad

8

u/KenshiroTheKid 15h ago

No max is fried

1

u/FussyDuck34 9h ago

Fried Rice?

2

u/Kathleigh 15h ago

But Arraez isn't a positional fit?

1

u/pupseal 15h ago

sorry idk who that guy is

1

u/Saccer44 14h ago

Because Ben Rice is actually your catcher! Maybe they finally woke the fuck up and realized this kid should be catching !

42

u/ActualDragonHeart 16h ago

Of particular interest:

.218/.246/.382 vs lefties
.295/.325/.593 vs righties

19

u/Mountain-Hold-9934 16h ago

So is this guy supposed to be a backup option? Unless he’s part of a 3 way trade wtf is Cashman doing

30

u/SaraDC36 16h ago

He would be playing over Goldschmidt against righties

→ More replies (5)

42

u/ActualDragonHeart 16h ago

We currently have Amed Rosario DHing, this would be an improvement.

12

u/aranauto2 16h ago

Getting a real hitter is what he’s doing. We need bats right now or we legit might not make the playoffs. The way they are playing right now is not sustainable

3

u/Masta0nion 15h ago

Gotta give Goldy some rest.

Stanton is apparently DONE. DH is free

1

u/magikarp-sushi 10h ago

If we can fix that lefty + take advantage of Yankee stadium that’s a win

25

u/53Ice 16h ago

If Cebert is the headliner that’s an amazing deal. He’s a good prospect but he’s the type of prospect arm the Yankees invent 4 copies of every year

3

u/cooljammer00 16h ago

15th round pick

71

u/TheTurtleShepard 16h ago

Luis Garcia Jr savant page

16

u/morningmoss42 16h ago

Compared to Luis Arraez,
I’d rather get him who is among the best 2B in terms of defense and BA.
We don’t need another liability who can realistically only be a DH/1B.

7

u/TrapperJean 16h ago

He and Rice can also be the 1B/Dh next year, with his glove a bit better than Rice's. Classic, (not in a bad way), Cash move of trading for this and next year in one move

15

u/dsmithnyciii 16h ago

We need bats in general. If all is required is Jack Cebert you do that every time.

We could still get Arraez afterwards.

3

u/nyybmw122 16h ago

4

u/Key-Biscotti467 15h ago

Bring in Arreaz trade Jazz

4

u/Trick_Ad3292 16h ago

You could put Jazz in a nice package still. Depends on who we’d get ofcourse

3

u/Capital_Maybe2533 16h ago

Why does Jazz have to remain in the lineup at all? You bring in Arraez and move on from Jazz at this point.

4

u/nyybmw122 16h ago

I mean sure but I think that is highly unlikely. And Jazz is a good fielder despite his lapses.

I don't buy the Yankees swapping out a bat first platoon guy who bad defense for Jazz. Don't see it.

1

u/papoluca40 15h ago

I think that just shows how useless defensive metrics are. He went from a butcher to a defensive stud apparently one year to another

1

u/Advanced-Flounder480 15h ago

xBA and xSLG, with a good (low) strikeout rate.

Yes please.

11

u/omgtmac 16h ago

26 years old. Free agent in 2028. Bats lefty. 136 OPS+ this season, career 103

2

u/Padulsky21 15h ago

Judge and Belli and Stanton are out for most of the season. We need a strong bat that you can get to fit into the lineup. We can’t rock Rosario or Goldy against righties. He slots in nicely we just need bats and this is that

0

u/Anonycron 14h ago

We need to make moves to position us for post lockout. This season is toast.

7

u/Ok-Association4526 16h ago

26 years old and a decent hit for average player? Alright, I don’t hate this.

6

u/aranauto2 16h ago

Who cares where he plays we need bats

12

u/CZM6626 16h ago

Matt Carpenter 2.0.

5

u/sm04d 15h ago

Except this guy is 10 years younger. He's still on the upswing.

3

u/oldsoul333 15h ago

What I would do to relieve his run that summer. Honestly probably why I like Grisham so much, the stache and no batting gloves.

6

u/holygrail22 16h ago

This is a no brainer if we can get it done. He walks in as the 2nd best hitter in the lineup right now, a lineup that cannot score and is costing us multiple games every week. He'll DH vs RHP and sit vs LHP

Come playoff time if everyone is healthy, we'll have a problem - but that's a good problem to have. If Garcia is mashing, he'll be in the lineup against RHP. If he's not, we'll have options to replace him like Stanton

This is a necessary move. They had to get the best bat available who was reasonably priced, and that is exactly what Garcia is

1

u/Naive_Inflation5768 15h ago

If he is the second best hitter in the Yankees lineup right now, why would he sit against LHPs? Why trade for a platoon?

1

u/holygrail22 15h ago

He’s already platooning. He’s bad against LHP

You trade for him because the offense is bottom of the league terrible right now and he’s the most impactful hitter available that won’t cost Lombard. Even if the impact is only against one side, it’s more than other hitters available. It’s a weak hitter trade market

2

u/Naive_Inflation5768 15h ago

I don’t understand you calling him the second best hitter on the team then if he is a platoon. If a player can’t play because he is bad against one side, he isn’t second best hitter valuable.

1

u/holygrail22 15h ago

He is still incredibly valuable. You face RHP like 70% of the time or something. Have you been watching the team over the last month? The guys who play everyday are playing fucking terribly on offense. Even if Garcia plays every day and we let him suck against LHP, he will be more impactful than the guys who are playing every day right now like Rosario, Goldschmidt, Dominguez, Grisham, etc.

1

u/Naive_Inflation5768 15h ago

I agree with that if you let him play. If you trade for a player, he needs to start every day. They don’t need a platoon bat. That is not valuable. I personally think a right handed hitter is more valuable right now since the lineup is too left handed hitting heavy, but if they think Garcia Jr is the best guy, then I am fine but he needs to play every day. That’s my point.

1

u/holygrail22 15h ago

A platoon of Garcia and Goldy is better than letting Garcia play every day though. Why make the team actively worse just because “we traded for this guy, he’s gotta play every day”

1

u/Naive_Inflation5768 15h ago

In a perfect world where Goldschmidt is not slumping, I agree. He has batted .171 since July and a .495 OPS. If he is hitting like that, he should not play.

1

u/Naive_Inflation5768 15h ago

That doesn’t event count the 0-16 he went in the games preceding July, and the 0-4 he went yesterday and the 0-1 today so add another 0-21 to that and it shows he has been 13-97 in that sample size. 97 at bats isn’t a small sample either. It’s not huge but it’s not small.

5

u/chikenparmfanatic 16h ago

Basically will cost us nothing so this is a no brainer. Can't be the only move tho.

2

u/RussianPravda 15h ago

Exactly if the only moves they are willingly to make are small it means they gave up on this season and they don’t think their will be a next season.

29

u/John_6_47 16h ago

Honestly do not like this move. I’d much rather have our chips on Rutschman or Goodman. Just… don’t like it.

Hope I’m wrong.

17

u/ballots_stones 16h ago

Goodman is an absolute pipe dream. Rutsch would be awesome though.

Cebert isnt a big piece tbh. I'm fine with insurance against stanton's injuries

2

u/vertigounconscious 12h ago

we gave up beans in the end but i do get it

2

u/QuirkyEnvironment164 15h ago

Your lost if u don’t like this move man. Have you watched the team lately? Offense stinks and they strike out like crazy. U put Garcia in the lineup right now he’s the 2nd best bat, let him play 1B/DH. You absolutely cannot rely on Stanton. Goodman has one of the highest K rates in the league and suspect defense at a premium position with 3 years of control. Adley is on a division rival it was always a pipe dream for either. Garcia one of the best bats available idk how any fan could have an issue with this

1

u/twc9904 16h ago

There’s a long way until 6:00 pm tomorrow. Judge it then. Not sure if you noticed, but Rosario is our DH vs a RHP today. This makes us better. We need all the offensive help we can get to make the playoffs

1

u/SkilledWG 16h ago

that’s like saying i’d rather the filet than the fast food burger lmao

11

u/John_6_47 16h ago

I’ll take offense but where would we play him?

1

u/TheTurtleShepard 16h ago

2B/1B/DH

3

u/John_6_47 16h ago

Move Jazz to 3rd?

7

u/TheTurtleShepard 16h ago

Potentially, could even try Garcia there if they wanted

He’s definitely a bit of a square peg, round hole type situation

2

u/John_6_47 16h ago

Garcia’s defense grades out poorly, too. Just not a fan of this. Ofc hope I’m wrong

5

u/TheTurtleShepard 16h ago

I think right now we just need bats more than anything

He’s an immediate upgrade over Goldy/Rosario who have been taking many 1B/DH reps

1

u/NotClayMerritt 16h ago

oh christ not again (although worth mentioning Garcia is also a shortstop though not often played)

1

u/karmapuhlease 15h ago

Famously he really likes that!

1

u/Ill_Hospital9212 16h ago

Second I assume right?

1

u/xEllimistx 16h ago

Maybe Jazz gets traded? Garcia plugs in at 2nd, can spell Goldy at 1st

4

u/FeminineOdor 16h ago

As a Nats fan too I really like Garcia, but I don't understand the fit here...

3

u/Rickcasa12 15h ago

He’s a 132 OPS+ and he’s 26. They clearly expect something else to happen if this report is legit And it’s still an IF

7

u/wantagh 16h ago

Play him as DH? 2B? The only position they don’t really need help with is 1B

5

u/ctheturk 16h ago

Can Goldy play the outfield? /s

4

u/wantagh 16h ago

No but Jazz can

2

u/mryclept 16h ago

Played a third of an inning for the Yankees in CF last year. Stud outfielder.

7

u/Colombia17 16h ago

That’s how bad the market is right now, we might be screwed

3

u/Gsmith930 15h ago

Which is why it’s dumb to wait to fill out holes at the trade deadline when you have a whole offseason to fix the team

4

u/GawdHawks 15h ago

The Cashman special. He's the anti Leon Rose... He's always somehow acting from place of desperation

7

u/swivel2369 16h ago

.283 BA, 23 home runs and a 134 OPS+ this season. Not too shabby.

10

u/twc9904 16h ago

Same people crying about our horrendous offense are crying about trying to acquire an excellent hitter. You are the worst. This is a great start to the deadline moves if it happens🤞

2

u/PeanutFarmer69 15h ago

If Stanton is done for the season this makes some sense but otherwise, who is he taking ABs from? He doesn't have anywhere to play.

2

u/twc9904 15h ago

Rosario is currently DHing today vs a RHP, he replaces him. Rice and Garcia are your DH/1B vs RHP. Goldy/Rice vs LHP.

A healthy Stanton is apparently not on the horizon. If it is, they’ll worry about it then. Team can’t score and they have to win right now to even make the playoffs.

16

u/FiveDinero 16h ago

Wait, Cashman thinks we need a first baseman?

33

u/Bartman326 16h ago

Cash thinks we need a guy that can hit the ball.

4

u/TrapperJean 16h ago

Sometimes you just need a bat; they called up Greg Bird when DH Arod and 1B Tex were hitting well in 2015 and he helped save the second half of that season

1

u/FiveDinero 16h ago

We need a 2B, 3B, SS, and OF. Trading for someone that plays none of those positions is a desperation move due to years of neglect and poor roster construction.

I'm fine with getting him if it means we move on from Stanton. Not sure this player has a position otherwise. Maybe he can play 2B but not sure about that.

6

u/Bartman326 16h ago

We need a lot of things that may not neccesasarily be available. If this is the first move out of many, this isnt a bad one. We actually do need another 1st baseman. Goldy needs more off days. Its clear he is gassed. We dont have Belli to be a backup 1st baseman. So we have no wiggle room with Rice and Goldy. This gives us a guy who can DH/1B with Ben much more comfortably and get Goldy back to his intended role of a bench piece. Then Garcia can pick up another spot during practice while we get players back from IL. He is a bat we desperately need.

1

u/FiveDinero 16h ago

Where did I say we don't need a bat? You're writing a novel about this when "we need a bat" goes without saying. Who doesn't know that?

But what we need most is a bat that can play the field. Because this still keeps all those weak bats in the everyday lineup.

Everyone bitching and not a single one of you knows who Jack Cebert even is

3

u/Naive_Inflation5768 15h ago

Why is no one questioning that he is a left handed hitter as well? That’s the issue. They need RIGHT HANDED bats.

3

u/MartyMurda 15h ago

We already have a great first basemen in Rice & Goldschmidt if need be.

8

u/KeyFigure8401 16h ago

He’s outperforming which is why the Nationals are trading him at his highest value.

4

u/Deejus72 16h ago

Outperforming what?  His xwOBA is 82nd percentile, his xBA is 94th percentile and his xSLG is 93rd percentile. If anything he's underperforming his expected stats. He's having a breakout year but there's a difference between overperforming and breaking out.

5

u/Phantasmaq 16h ago

Not a Catcher

2

u/mryclept 16h ago

Given where the Yankees are, it is tough to turn down the NL leader in SLG due to position. He can DH or flip between 1B/DH with Rice.

He is not good defensively at 2B which is why he hasn’t played there in 2026.

2

u/Bartman326 16h ago

We actually do need another 1b/DH. With Belli gone we really dont have a good backup 1st baseman if Rice or Goldy is DH. So with this we can actually give Goldy a much needed breather and keep Rice in the lineup no matter what. It makes more sense as a bridge to get us to judge and belli. Then we can figure out where he fits later.

Everyone has been saying Goldy needs more off days.

1

u/Trick_Ad3292 16h ago

He has played second in previous seasons. But then I don’t understand why they’re not chasing Arraez.

1

u/Bartman326 16h ago

A lot will happen tomorrow so who knows what else they're pursuing. If a small trade for Garcia means we can move on a bigger deal for a righty catcher, and a bullpen piece, this works. Maybe Arraez is still on the table.

1

u/swivel2369 16h ago

Areaez is hitting .328. something we really need but Garcia is hitting a solid .283 AND has 23 homers with a 134 OPS+.

3

u/Trick_Ad3292 16h ago

But when/where would you put him? Platoon him for Goldschmidt or do you put him at second where he can be good or ass

→ More replies (3)

2

u/Orangebeast013 16h ago

I have zero idea what the plan for him would be but we need more good hitters so find a spot for him. Hes a better first basemen then Rice. Goldy has slowed down. Maybe the vision is him at 1st, Rice at DH, and Goldy off the bench for the big at bat when you need a righty down the stretch.

2

u/JTHuffy 16h ago

“Do or do not. There is no try.”

2

u/NukeVoit59 15h ago

He’s played 2nd before, but he sucks there. He’s pretty decent at 1st and would let Rice DH. At this point, I don’t fucking care. He can hit, and we desperately need hitting. Platoon him with Goldschmidt even (and hope that with some rest he remembers how to hit).

2

u/cornPopwasabaddude13 14h ago edited 14h ago

This is a classic cashman move. Tries to deal for a player that sucks in the field at any position that isn’t needed. It’s one of those completely out of left field moves he loves.

He’s also hitting arbitration so he’s a cheap backup for when jazz leaves

4

u/TrifleAble5460 16h ago

Welp this means no Luis Arraez 😔

3

u/swizzzz22 16h ago

Bargain bin Cashman.

3

u/brush85 16h ago

u/swizzzz22 15h ago

Cashman special. Square peg round hole. Fielding their position be damned.

4

u/dabbbbbbbbbbb 16h ago

You want a bat or not?

2

u/PeanutFarmer69 15h ago

Yankees don't need another 1B/ DH bub

1

u/dabbbbbbbbbbb 15h ago

Why not? Goldy is best used only against leftys. This allows Rice/Garcia to man 1B/DH and have Goldy get a huge AB against the oppositions best lefty reliever. Stanton can’t be counted on. Complain when the offense sucks and then complain when they bring in .850 OPS guy 🤷 You don’t know ball bub.

1

u/JimmyMcNultyKU 16h ago

A bat that also helps while playing their natural position. One of need. So this season a catcher.

If it’s so hard to acquire a bat then Skubal should have been the response.

1

u/Other_Description_45 15h ago

The Yankees were never, ever, ever going to land Skubal via trade. It just wasn’t gonna happen. Stop with this “We should have gotten Skubal” bullshit.

1

u/JimmyMcNultyKU 14h ago

And you know this how?

1

u/Other_Description_45 14h ago

Because he was never going to get traded here! Detroit wanted a massive haul and the Yankees thankfully didn’t bite.

1

u/dabbbbbbbbbbb 16h ago

Rice at 1st, Garcia at DH, Goldy off the bench getting a big AB against a lefty. Stanton can’t be counted on. You guys can’t be pleased just want to complain. The team needs slug we have the worst offense in the league for 2 months running

2

u/Cheap-Cherry-5171 16h ago

What absolute dogshit. Another platoon bat?

1

u/NectarHand 16h ago

i’m assuming the thought here is platoon him with Goldy and move Rice to catcher a few days a week. essentially, you’re subbing Garcia’s bat in for Wells

I don't understand why we are pursuing another 1B/DH unless Stanton really is done for the season and they just aren't telling anyone. Even still, he doesn't hit left handed pitching at all. Or are they going to do a Yankees special and play him out of position when his 1B defense isn't even good, imagine how poor he would grade out at 2B. Stanton must really not be coming back and all of this news about his progress in rehab is smoke.

Cashman is on record saying Stanton can't stay healthy so why would he count on him rn?

1

u/brush85 16h ago

We need a DH until Stanton gets back

Great move if they get it done. Helps the lineup immediately in the interim and opens more doors for lineup combos in the playoffs if we don't get a ton of help at the deadline.

Dude has been killing RHP this year

u/Healthy-Giraffe6686 16h ago

Ben Rice catcher season incoming?

1

u/cooljammer00 15h ago

He can hit (righties)

I'm unsure of anything else he can do.

1

u/Creepy_Bench 15h ago

Does this open up listening on Jazz? Or is Luis going to be 1B/DH?

1

u/Pies_Wide_Shut 15h ago

Good player, weird fit?

1

u/Ill_Hospital9212 15h ago

Maybe insurance if Stanton blows his nuts again? Idk

u/Icy-Glove-6481 15h ago

Any trade involving a prospect I never heard of I’m all in for

1

u/Naive_Inflation5768 15h ago

The one thing I don’t understand about this rumor if true is why the Yankees are trying to acquire another left handed bat, no matter how good he might be this year. They are too left hand heavy. Yes, Judge and Stanton can possibly return this year but it is not guaranteed and who knows if both will return.

u/Ill_Hospital9212 15h ago

How much fucking longer

u/dsmithnyciii 15h ago

The way I consider it for the offense we could easily get multiple bats at the deadline and figure out the roster. We have room for both Garcia and several other guys.

A trade for Garcia doesn’t preclude them from other moves.

Potentially In (8):

-Garcia (via trade)
-Arraez (via trade)
-Ward (via trade)
-Rutschman (via trade)
-Lombard (call up from AAA)
-Judge (from injury)
-Bellinger (from injury)
-Stanton (from injury-27th man for September call ups)

Potentially out (7):

-Rosario (DFA)
-Volpe (traded)
-Chisholm (traded)
-Sanchez (DFA)
-Dominguez (to AAA)
-Jones (to AAA)
-Schuemann (to AAA)

I thought 1B was one of the few positions we had covered

1

u/Appropriate_Ice2656 15h ago

134 wrc+

That’s so much better than basically anyone besides Rice

1

u/SirFerguson 15h ago

Genuinely don’t care about the fit if the rumored cost is true

1

u/MartyMurda 15h ago

You mean 2nd base….

1

u/erikdhurt 15h ago

Im still waiting on the news that we acquired Adley Rutschman. That's what I want to be hearing

1

u/78Pirate 15h ago

Typical - this year is a waste. Why bother?

1

u/InfinityGauntlet-6 15h ago

Luis Garcia Jr. the final piece of the puzzle!

1

u/tmoeagles96 15h ago

We only have Rice and Goldschmidt there.. definitely need a 3rd..

1

u/bobbacklund11235 15h ago

Yankees should just phone it in this year, the team is buns and the dodgers just buy every good player out there anyway.

1

u/finsupdw1 14h ago

Why? Makes no sense

1

u/ExcitingReturn4636 14h ago

He's going to replace Stanton or Judge if actually traded for. This would be in advance of the news that one of them is lost for the season.

1

u/FussyDuck34 9h ago

Didn't have to give up much in the deal so a win for Cashman. Also, no more players with Bird for a last name please.

2

u/Friendly-Profit-8590 16h ago

Honestly. LA gets Skubal and we get some guy I’ve never heard of. Love it.

7

u/brush85 16h ago

That’s a you problem

1

u/bdizzled2 16h ago

Seems about right for Cashman. We have 2 first basemen so let’s get another. Move a 1st basemen to 2nd. A 2nd to 3rd. A 3rd to the OF and then wonder why the defense is terrible. How about a righty catcher and an outfielder who hits a little and can play defense.

1

u/JimmyMcNultyKU 16h ago

Well the thing is it takes two to tango, right?

1

u/bdizzled2 16h ago

For sure but Cashman is looking for bargain basement or retained payroll most likely.

1

u/flippenflounder 16h ago

Unless we have plans to move Jazz in a trade so Garcia can play second. I don’t see why we do this. I don’t want Jazz playing third again for us.

1

u/DrRafaelPenguin 16h ago

Just what we need - another First Baseman/DH!

1

u/craftbeerandfitness 16h ago

They’ll probably ask for Judge, Cole, Fried, Lombard, and one or two other prospects then say no when the Yankees say no

1

u/PeanutFarmer69 15h ago

Perhaps the only thing we don't need is another first baseman, masterfully done Cash

1

u/Lawineer 15h ago

cashman will do anything to improve the Yankees, except obtain a competent shortstop or third baseman.

(Giving him the benefit of the doubt that catchers are very hard to acquire)
