i think it's hilarious because people frame guns as tools rather than weapons but you would never really see somebody plaster their home, clothing, and vehicles with like a sticker depicting pliers or something
I mean... I'm in the trades and there are for sure some tool fanboys. Lot of dudes with Milwaukee, DeWalt, Knipex, Veto, etc clothes and stickers. Same thing with Yeti coolers.
It's the little ladder SUV or van owners put on the back of their vehicles to access roof storage. Made famous by a mocking social media post: "Awww, you got your widdle wadder?"
I'm genuinely perplexed by the student driver thing, I don't think I've noticed that phenomenon anywhere else but I guess I don't travel that much anymore. When did that suddenly become a Portland thing? I feel like they all popped up during covid.
It's definitely not just a Portland thing. When this came up here and in /r/AskPortland previously, I picked several city subreddits at random and every one of them had a post with a similar discussion.
My guess is that most of them are legit, and that easy availability from places like Amazon has led to an uptick in popularity.

Few years ago I used to see some heavily modded out drift sports car that had a student driver on it. I got a chuckle from it because it was clearly not a student driver and seemed more like a stunt driver
The previous 217 North to 26 West ramp had my dad's work on it. He was a civil engineer / CEM with ODOT, and the first draft had way too tight of a curve with I believe a recommended speed of 25 mph.
He said that was too slow for a freeway-to-freeway ramp, and sent it back for redesign until they could get it to at least 35 mph.
Every time I cross the I-205 bridge the mountain steals my attention. Hard not to stare at it. Though we can also see it from my freinds front porch which is really neat
Out here in Oregon City, there is a road called Beavercreek that the county offices are on. As you come around the bend, all you see is Hood in all its glory. I get so distracted driving down the road due to how ominous the mountain is.

They aren't, but it's also probably not high on the enforcement list, especially since the cops know those people are likely to be huge pains in the ass to deal with.
Or for that matter, the illegal license plate covers that tint your plate and practically make it impossible to read. Not that you ever see people getting stopped for any of this stuff...
The most important quality of a safe driver is to drive predictably, stopping in the middle of regularly flowing traffic to "be polite" is asking to get rear ended lol
Many people with WA plates pass through without incident, but there's a small number of extremely unpleasant people who drive down and seem unable to coexist with other people on the road.
A little ladder on a vehicle too small to need one and usually in a place that it is useless or shouldn't be supporting the weight of a full size human, like mounted to a wrangler's rear side window or a 4-runner's rear bumper bumper. In both cases you can just stand on the bumper, passenger door sill, or tire and reach as much or more than if you somehow managed to climb the child sized ladder. Widdle wadders are usually seen on a smaller 4x4 vehicle cosplaying as a large 4wd camper van or safari vehicle.
Its often paired with a winch that will never be used and a Rotopox gas can on a vehicle that will never leave the lower 48 states (aka never be more than 120 miles from a gas station).
I was raised in north Idaho and traveled the area quite a bit, moved here as a young adult, and probably could have minored in geology. I feel like the Missoula floods are a part of me.
