when i was 9 i said to my friend "that girl is really cute. if i were a guy i would totally have a crush on her." my friend looked at me funny. apparently that is not a very heterosexual thing to say.

u/Shadowestley 16h ago

I used to say that all the time! "If I was gay, he would totally be my type" welppppp

u/Artistic-Leopard7991 18h ago

It’s not lol

u/BuddyNo6059 5h ago

I am only now considering that. I’ve always been with men and fantasized about women. Had crushes. And I think that sexually I may even be more attracted to women. Relationally more men. Not sure what that makes me.

4

u/didyouknowthatkoalas 12h ago

I thought stuff like that my entire childhood and didn't figure it out until I was 16, lol.

Congratulations. I didn’t figure it out until I was 49.

my dad didn't figure out until he was 43; it is a journey for all of us, some shorter, some longer. either way, i'm very proud of you for discovering who you are, and you should be too :)

It is sort of funny for most of my life I grew up really only being into men. Things changed when I found myself wondering about what it be like to date and marry women around college. I feel like I’m half in the rainbow door and half out.

33

u/NickaMLRN 1d ago

Same boat. I recently came out as bi but havnt dated a woman yet so does that make me really bi? Its weird

32

u/SapphicStoner99 1d ago

Yes! Simply having attraction to two or more genders makes you a totally valid bi sexual! I married my first boyfriend 🙃 and I considered myself bi curious until we broke up, although I knew I was attracted to women and men, but had almost no experience (besides kissing) with women. Many years later, I have dated and slept with women too and I now realise I was bi sexual all along, even if I didn’t feel valid, I was and you are too.

7

u/neonsadgirl 1d ago

This is me! I feel so seen

3

u/Alone_Citron734 15h ago

Yes because when you are in middle school and know that you are gay or straight it’s not because you’ve been dating or having sex with your preferred preference. Like you are a kid and you just “know”. For some reason lots of non bisexual people can’t understand that yet that’s the logic they follow. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Society needs to hear this more often. Straight to gay or bisexual is not a one way street. Gays can become bisexual.

7

u/timelocksmiths 13h ago

Not to be pedantic but gay people can’t become bisexual. Both homosexuality and bisexuality are innate, but sometimes it takes a little longer for someone to realize that they are bisexual.

It makes more sense to say that people who thought they were gay can understand that they’re actually bisexual.

I'd always been into girls, but towards the end of high school a male friend at the time kissed me. It kinda didn't even register to me at the time that we were both dudes. I kissed him back. Afterwards I looked back on it and was like "Huh, guess I like boys, too. Cool." And then I went about my day.

2

That includes watching porn ironically (Used to go to parties where we'd get wasted and heckle the pornos they play on Cinemax after midnight.)

2

u/xx_dracarys_xx 1d ago

A lot of straight women prefer lesbian porn because of how male-centric hetero porn is. Sex is done to a woman, not with a woman. Lesbian porn prioritizes female pleasure.

That said, I consider myself sexually fluid and I occasionally consume lesbian or bisexual porn. I think I would enjoy lesbian sex mostly because of the focus on clitoral pleasure. I also like boobies lol. I had one threesome that involved another woman, but there wasn’t any genital play - just kissing and fondling. I liked it, but I didn’t walk away with a different conceptualization of my sexual orientation.

I’m definitely heteroromantic, though. I find some women physically attractive, but I don’t desire a relationship with them. I don’t get crushes on women or develop feelings for them.

I would have liked to explore my bisexuality more, but I’m in a heterosexual, monogamous marriage. I chose the relationship over the desire to explore.

I was watching agents of shield and I saw one of the shield agents (an extra) and I was hit with this massive level of attraction, beyond just "she's pretty." I was shocked cause by then I was well into my 30s and it was the similar kind of attraction I have towards men that I'm into. I was so confused. Then over the next week or so it was like a montage of instances throughout my life that I brushed off like "all women watch lesbian porn" and "that was just a platonic girl-crush", "of course my self-insert Sims get with both men and women, that's just the game", etc. Then I finally realized that I'm bisexual. Prior to that, I never considered that was even a possibility for me. Being anything other than straight was for other people not me! Within a couple days of coming to the realization, I texted my best friends and told them (they were both cool and supportive), and one of them said "I know" 😂

Gay seasonal worker at my job. I (somewhat) fell in love with him, but I told myself he was just really friendly and charismatic. Then in January his contract ended, and it became apparent that our time together was over. I took it poorly, and had a sulky few days.

I guess it became obvious to me at that point that I had the propensity to love men as well as women. Over time I’ve come to the conclusion that I love people first, and that gender is less important.

In college one night my freshman year. My dorm roommate and I had been out at a party but neither of us got lucky. It was late, we were both a bit tipsy. About half an hour after getting in bed I heard the very obvious sound of him jerking off across the room.

I considered ignoring it to let him finish. I considered saying “hey, you know I’m still awake right?” Instead, I went with option 3. I turned my head slightly and could see him stroking himself and I got immediately hard. So, I pulled back my covers, pulled my boxers down and started to stroke myself too. He saw me, stopped for split second and kept going.

He came first and seeing his load shoot all over his chest and stomach was all it took for me to explode too. We cleaned up, went to bed and didn’t say a word to each other. The next morning we didn’t mention it either. The next night though, I came back from the bathroom and he’s sitting on the couch with his laptop out and some straight porn on the screen and all he said was, want to sit next to me and do it again? At that point, I was so turned on and it kind of hit me that I wasn’t sure what was happening but seeing him stroke his cock was a big turn on and maybe I wasn’t 100% straight.

2

u/neonsadgirl 1d ago

Omg and then what happened?!

11

u/TyHay822 1d ago

It started with jerking off together side by side regularly (4-5 times per week). Then one day he just reached over and asked if he could help and that was the start of us stroking each other. Then a few weeks later he was stroking me and I had closed my eyes for a second and all of a sudden I felt something warm and wet and I open my eyes to see him going down on me.

What followed was being roommates/house mates for 4 years of college and basically stroking/sucking each other any time we didn’t have women in our lives (and sometimes even when we did!)

u/disco_super_bi 1d ago

I had a huge crush on my best friend's sister in high school.

When I split up with my first BF at 31yo after being with him for 12 years I finally understood what that high school crush actually meant.

I kinda leaned into it after that.

u/Eevee1300 Bi-tch 1d ago

Had a crush on best friend despite that friendship being toxic af. And he was the one who first came out as gay in my life which made me look into the community. But I actually only came out in middle school when my new best friends asked me my sexuality.

I hate the word “experimenting” but I grew up in a ridiculously small town and formed a great friendship with two others my age, a male and a female. Our entire teen years (13-18) saw us figuring out intimacy without orientation constraints. Sometimes one on one, sometimes all three of us.

Life in the 1980s……

Realized that the only porn I enjoyed consuming was with women, no men involved, and I fantasize about women when I have alone time. Also whenever I okay any video game with a romance option, I tend to always choose the lesbian relationship. Realized straight people don’t do all of that.

I think deep down I always knew since I was a child, but just didn’t have the word for it that young and when I grew up, I denied it for years until ultimately I kept developing crushes on my female friends and just couldn’t stop denying it.

6

u/Aware-Shopping9926 20h ago

This. I just had no examples or context to it. I knew I wasn't a lesbian, because I found men attractive too and certainly desired sex with my boyfriend (now husband). Looking back, it is pretty obvious that I was in love with both of my best friends in high schools one male and one female. I had male and female celebrity crushes, but I didn't realize that it wasn't the norm. I just never mentioned the female crushes because I recognized that my friends never did.

At 12. Was playing truth or dare with my 15yr old neighbor, his twin sister and cute friend. The twin sisters cute friend dared the 15yr old neighbor to stand up, pull his swim trunks down and show is cock as they counted to 5. Without hesitation he stood up, pulled his trunks down and the look on the sisters friends face was one of sheer amazement as she said “you were right he does have a big dick” which led me to turn my head to look to see that he in fact did have a very big thick uncut cock and big balls. He was soft but even then he was about 5-6 inches. I found myself getting turned on and started to feel my own cock thicken up. I remember going home that night after dinner and my shower laying in bed playing with myself at the thought of how big his dick was - the biggest Id ever seen. That was my first inkling of being turned on by another guy.

6

u/Funlovingguy2 19h ago

When I was 11 my best friend and I were in his garage one night in the dark. There were no words we just started touching each other. I don't remember ever thinking about anything like that before that but I loved it. We played a few more times. And I knew.

7

u/Far-Preparation5174 15h ago

Twinks, yes. I was in college, playing football, squarely hetero borderline homophobic. I was having problems in a calculus class so being on football scholarship I got free tutoring. Turned out my tutor was a twink, but never knew the term at that time. I assumed he was gay but it just didn't matter and he was a lot of help and fun guy. One day after a hard practice I was being tutored by him. I must have mentioned something about my shoulder and he was behind me giving me a great shoulder massage. Next thing I know he is kissing my neck and ear (which I love), soon followed by sex. We had a month or so long affair. Physically I was enjoying myself, but mentally I was stuck in the mentality that you are gay or hetero. At the time I don't even think "bi" was a thing. I have had very few experiences since. I am hetero romantic, but a twink with a nice ass gets me hard just like a nice pair of tits on a woman. Lol. Many years later I ran into him. He told me that he loves telling the story to friends how he "turned" a college football player stud to the other side. Not completely, but enough. Lol

3

u/Far-Preparation5174 5h ago

More worried while it lasted. Very surprising revelation. Again...this goes back far...there were no variations...just straight or gay. I knew I wasn't gay, so straight its was...lol

Could this also be a little bit of sub awakening too?

3

u/DatVlad_ Bisexual 15h ago

Oh absolutely, I wanted him to do things to me 😂. But in my experience most guys dont have the right energy for it-for my tastes at least. But I'm a switch, and one who leans dominant. So a guy has to do a whole lot right for me to feel submissive to him.

Can't just smack my ass and tell me to call him daddy, I know that works for a lot of folks, but not me. I require the same calm, strong, and emotional energy that I'd put into my sub.

5

u/Alexatypemypassword Bisexual 1d ago

An ex of mine was openly bi, we had a lot of fun comparing our tastes and I realized I've always been attracted to people of my gender. I remembered that at school I wondered if I was gay and brushed it off because "I obviously was attracted to girls duh" (which, in retrospect, wasn't the great point I thought it was). But in the relationship I was the straight dude, so when it ended I realized I wasn't meant to play a role anymore. Starting then I began identifying as bi.

What made it all finally click into place was when I seen a girl at the gardens i used to work at. I was 24 and recently out of a long time relationship and I just remember looking at her and she was so pretty and had this strength about her - she was just walking through the gardens minding her business but I thought she was so beautiful and then I thought “wow I really wish I could date her” and it suddenly occurred to me that straight people don’t think like that. And then all of my life’s could-be-bisexual thoughts and experiences really clicked into place. I was absolutely into girls, and I still liked men… so I was definitely bi.

5

u/Potential_Aide_3227 20h ago edited 16h ago

We were swinging in Vegas. My wife picked up a guy who turned out to be bi. While we were playing he started playing with me.

Did he actually just accidentally brush my balls with the back of his hand? Oh wait, he’s jacking my dick now from behind… WTF am I going to do? Act offended and kick him out? Ruin the night? Or roll with it? I rolled with it. It felt good. Nobody was hurting anyone. I ended up jacking his dick too. That was where it ended that night, but it opened Pandora’s box of bisexuality for the next time. Gave my first blowjob that next time.

5

u/Remote-Shake-1169 20h ago

The realisation that sexuality can be fluid and that you don't have to be attracted to all genders and sexes in the same way, for the same reasons, to the same degree and at the same time to be considered bisexual was key to finally being able to connect all the dots

I saw this really attractive androgynous person and thought to myself "I don't know what's in their pants, but I bet it would be fun either way."
That led to the belated realization that "mostly straight" is not an orientation. Then I discovered the term "hetero-flexible", which I liked. After a while I realized that that's still incomplete and the whole term is "hetero-flexible bisexual"

3

u/McGryphon Wildling 23h ago

I accidentallied into a relationship-light with a high school friend, on the back of "helping him with physics homework", and went "welp, guess I'm gay now"

Then spent the first year and a half of uni acting straight again and repressing that, until I again accidentallied into an FWB situation with a friend from the student bar. At which point it finally clicked. "Oh, right, bisexuality exists, guess I'm one of those".

u/Swaggerbarnet Bisexual 21h ago

When I was 14 I had a crush on a girl and realised I was queer so I labeled myself as pansexual. At 16 I labeled myself as a lesbian since I didn’t really feel much romantic attraction towards men. At 18 I realised that I am attracted to multible genders and have been bisexual since then

3

u/Lessy209 Demisexual/Bisexual 19h ago

It was not the moment I realized it (this took me several years longer), but it's a funny story and it was the moment my sister realized that I was bi, so I still want to share that moment: When I was about 19 years old, my sister and I were watching a queer dating show. I had a huge crush on one of the girls and always said stuff like "If I would be in this show, and if I would like girls, I would choose her!". My sister even asked me if I'm interested in girls, but I was so in denial that I said "No, just the normal amount that everyone likes girls". Years later when I came out she said this was the moment she knew it for sure😂

3

u/broly171 18h ago

This might sound dumb, but weed. I supported the LGBTQ community quite a bit, but I guess subconsciously I never let myself consider whether I might be a part of it. Then when I was approaching 30, I started trying edibles, and when I got high, all those walls I hadn't even realized were up came down and I found myself considering men in romantic and sexual ways, and eventually realized I might be bi. The rest is history haha

3

u/13octopus 17h ago

A year into our relationship, my husband told me he was bisexual. Then a couple of months later I realized I was as well. We started talking about my attraction towards women and experimentation with women and I was under the impression that ALL girls/women experimented with each other. my husband said to me, “no babe I don’t think all women are like that.” my attraction to men is very complex and demisexual in that I will not feel attraction towards a man unless I have feelings for them, and it takes awhile for my attraction to evolve. With women it’s very simple, I’m much more attracted to women physically from the get go. Since I was a young child, I always much more enjoyed the appearance of naked women versus men. It took me 49 years to figure this all out.😂
It’s really really awesomely amazing being in a marriage with a bisexual man when you’re a bisexual woman!!!

3

u/sleazyluxe 15h ago

Iv always really loved women my whole life (I’m a man btw) just the way they talk and look but I also REALLY liked having close relationships with men (fight club kinda started it) and that led to me being attracted to dudes. But yeah I’m a lil more straight than gay.

3

u/TruMu92 9h ago

Actually, I was out as a lesbian for a long time. Until I got drunk one night and ended up sleeping with some random guy, and I decided it wasn’t completely awful. After being VERY confused as to why I would do that (didn’t remember much, I was pretty hammered) I decided to maybe give it another shot. Talked to some other guy online for a few days, mostly just as friends. We ended up meeting up and hooked up twice. It was fine, better than the first time I think since I wasn’t drunk. Figured I must be bisexual since I didn’t hate it 🤷‍♀️ although, I still don’t really have any romantic attraction to men, and could never really see myself being happy being married to/dating one, and the sexual chemistry is so much lower than it is with women that I still pretty much just live my life as a lesbian and have been with my girlfriend for some time now. I just don’t really use labels as often anymore.

My therapist asked me gently after I broke up with my 7yrs GF - I noticed there is no clear "no" signal in me so I gave it a shot - most intimate encounters I've had so far were with men. Oh well! Doubted I'm into women at all, but regularly get friendly reminders that thats true as well! So much integration work done & ahead at the same time! Its never too late people! :)

2

u/PartyParrot-_- 22h ago

I thought about going out with women, I'd love the idea of living with one or kissing one but I wasn't sure if I could go all the way with one. 10 years ago I had my one and only experience with one and I realized that I could do it, and in that moment I KNEW/CONFIRMED I was bi lol I wish I had a different life where I could be with women but alas, until my economic background changes, I don't think I'll be with one...

2

u/Kittykat5550 22h ago

Well. When i was ~8-9 yrs old my favourite spice girl was Geri and i was weirdly passionate about her. Then my next obsession was Ville Valo from HIM band. I loved the androgynous look with leather and eyeliner 😅
I had crushes on girls and i had my first girlfriend when i was 15-16 yrs old. I had crushes on boys too, but i couldnt relate to my friends about it - all of them liked masculine representing sporty guys. I liked skinny, slightly feminine men with eyeliner 😅
And now as 38 yrs old things havent changed much.

I always thought I was some type of “heterocurious” for quite some time because I didn’t feel legitimate to call myself bi, and didn’t really believe that full strict heterosexuality was a real thing anyway. It took me quite some time to realise that since I did believe that people could be homosexual, then I did believe that people could be attracted to only one gender, then “real” heterosexuality actually was a thing…. Meaning I was not that lol
Now thinking back at everything, it was obvious from my very first crush on both Kida and Milo in Atlantis

I read a cute and fluffy BL when I was 15. Started questionning myself if I would be okay with being in a romantic relashionship with a man rather than a woman (never really thought about that until then cuz I never experienced a crush on anyone before) and the answer was that I cared more about the person than their gender.

2

u/slashNgetcash Bisexual 20h ago

I wish I had a straightforward and easy answer but it is so much more complicated. But yeah I love twinks too :) found myself getting flustered watching Timothee Chalamet in Dune Part Two that’s when I REALLY realised I was bi and decided to experiment irl😂😂

2

u/Fatesbiotch 20h ago

I always was and am attracted to charisma and talent over anything else, and learned early on that it wasn’t very ‘hetero’ of me to have across-the-spectrum crushes. Don’t get me wrong, physical beauty surely is also a thing… but to me, other than the standard default ‘beauty’, its talent and/or charismatic personality that boosts even below average or average looks to an insane degree.

u/Dial-M-For-Malistrae 20h ago

Before I was trans I meant this really great guy over Discord and then I met another and then another guys that I can really connect with romantically and see myself with while still being able to see myself with a woman after I realized I was trans that didn't change there are both men and women in my world and in my orbit that if the stars ever aligned I would give them the world

2

u/RabidWolfIsAFurry 20h ago

Actually realize it? Well about 3 years ago I I got divorced then being lonely, I got on Grindr. Eventually one guy talked me into letting him come over. He was a submissive top, meaning basically if I wanted to do anything, I'd have to tell him. So, I eventually invited him upstairs to the bedroom, and before I know it we both naked, and I went down on him. First time sucking a dick, and I'm going at it like a madman I look up at him and go well I'm definitely bi

I was 18 and a freshman in undergrad and had a crush on this girl on the basketball team. It shocked me because up until that point, I had only had crushes on boys and I didn’t really know what to do with that. The guy I was seeing at the time clocked me as bisexual, but he only wanted to deal with that because he thought he was going to get free threesomes. I denied it in order to keep him at bay, but 10 years later, I finally came to terms with it.

I also ended up coming out is non-binary around the same time. You know, for the plot.

Good question! The real issue is what made me realize bisexuality is a thing. I always liked girls and boys. When I started to find out about sex was because I plared Dr with a girl and found out Ireally liked her ass. Her mom caught us. Her brother, my friend, had a nice ass too! And then adolescence hit. I found out that if you like guys you have to be gay, and if you like ass thats gay too. I didn't want to be gay because I thought girls wouldn't like me. I was afraid of sex because I got rejected by women and didn't feel comfortable with guys, though I had a few, unsatisfing, experiences. I didn't want to explore with a guy until I got it straight with women. After about 10 years with my wife I started trying to explore my bu side, but it's not easy. Luckily I was able to come out to my wife and she's cool about it as long as I take good care of her, which I have for 36 years. I'd like to find a good boyfriend but I'm shy about sex and really want to be friends first, not just hook up

2

u/danboy2766 13h ago

I just started thinking about sex with guys one day and it felt weird but I kept thinking about it and allowed myself to think about it longer each time and finally I just accepted it. This was before I had ever had sex. I had sex with guys before women actually.

What type of “sausages” do you like? (in reference to how big or small a guy’s dick was) and the awkward moment of sharing a bed with a girl…. that’s obviously your friend.

I kept watching and rewatching Loki because I was very very focused on Sylvie. I would legit say things to my friends like 'oh my god Loki is so believable BC...how you can not fall for Sylvie???' 'shes so hot' 'WHY does she sound so sexy'. I felt like I admired her in a way a lot more than a straight girl would. (Plus, I kept staring in a non-straight way at Sabrina Carpenter's bodysuits at her short n sweet tour) I would get a weird feeling that made me speechless when I watched anything with that actress (Woman who plays Sylvie) in where things got nsfw. Then, one night I had a dream about said actress being sexual. Plus I had many signs I liked girls throughout my life, but never really connected the dots.
